I've always loved your enhancement videos! Wish I stuck with connecting to the community earlier on in my Star Citizen experience. More explosions next time! You said it though! I hate it when people shit on others for dreaming about this game too. It's so bizarre to me that you could just waste minutes of your life criticizing someone for being passionate about something. Just because you can't see the vision the game has and it's potential cause you're sour about it, doesn't mean it's okay to bring others down.

I've been around since the beginning as well. The one thing I always tell people who are thinking of playing... Star Citizen is a game you will rage quit almost every time you play... In every single game session you will get to a point where the bugs, glitches and poor server performance will push you to your breaking point and you'll say, "F this shit!" and log out in frustration... But... you'll keep coming back for more time and time again. This right here is a testament to how good this game actually is. Despite getting frustrated to the point of rage quitting almost every time you'll still come back for more. It's just that good at a basic level.

I’m not sure how many understand just how important static server meshing actually is. Really, it is like 90% of what dynamic server meshing will be. If you can get 2 static servers to fluidly interact so you don’t even realize that they are there, all that is left is a program to decide when and where to put them. Not that I want it to sound like that part will be easy.
@nosygamer180

I figure the two biggest technological hurdles CIG needs to solve is dynamic server meshing and the planned economic system. The fascination I have with Star Citizen is watching to see if CIG can solve their tech challenges before the money runs out. Already ship sales don't cover the costs of keeping the company running. Fortunately when all other sources of income are factored in (subscriptions, government tax credits, venture capital investment, etc), the total raised is over $875 million, and that's just the publicly posted numbers on CIG's websites. Some of the numbers are 18 months old, so the total is probably a few million short of $900 million at this point.

May I devils advocate just for a moment with the understanding that I am very passionate about the the project and wish for its success. I feel a better defence should be made. Have a good one :)

It's not an argument, merely an observation and factual. If there are no alternatives to anyone making a game on such a scale, then how can a comparison be drawn, or how can those involved know if the work is quick or not? However, there is a new video today where someone suggested a comparison and gave an answer to the question I have asked for over a month now. And hello, Expat! I hope you're having a good weekend!

I am a vet backer with life insurance on the ships I purchased a while back. I spent about $500 on the game during that early involvement. After that, I lost faith in the development of the game after all those delays. A few months ago, I reinstalled the game and played the Alfa version, in a very limited manner because my computer cannot handle it very well. From my limited experience playing the Alfa version, I can tell you there are bugs, as expected, such as an elevator call the results in open doors but no elevator - and the untimely, accidental death of your character if you don't pay attention - and the unintended removal of your character from your ship and into the external environment (in my case, it was snow that slowly killed me as a struggled to get back into my ship) when you get out of bed in your ship. Other than those bugs, the game feeling, including graphics, animation, and interaction with the world, is beyond amazing. I think I'll stick to the Alfa version with my current version, and once the game comes out in its entirety, I'll buy a new system that can handle it. I don't want to do so now, only to realize the game took four years to come out in its final version.

@@DG360 I watched your video last night. We both learned together that the game isn’t a MMO, and the developers seems on keeping it that way, but I believe its because of funding. Plus look at how much they accomplished with a small team and little funding. Star Citizen/CIG has first movers advantages, and a strong community backing it. I’m also rooting for Star Citizen to win, I pledged around $2300 for my digital JPEGs, but we need competition, to keep us and CIG on our toes, and swords sharpened. As a backer looking into the future, I would like to also see my ships forever living on after the game on Web3,tokenized/NFT, and metaverse/Ready Player One style.

The only thing that bothers me about SC is the blind fanaticism of some of the fans, the game is what it is. The idea of an SC open, multiplayer world with hundreds of systems and a million players or whatever just isn't happening, and isn't going to happen. After so many years the first new system still isn't out. We will get an SC but it will be radically different, much smaller scale and at this point, three systems to play in is optimistic. I'm okay with that, I enjoy the game and play it a lot. But I get tired of when I point out that a lot of features people hope for probably aren't going to make it, you get this wild, frenzied snap back of "Well don't play the game then!" or "Go play some triple A mass market game, SC isn't for you!" and its the worst part of the SC community. That it has to exist in this bubble that shelters itself from other members of the community, who paid for the game and have the right to say what they aren't happy about, and attack them for saying so. The SC community is notorious for its toxic positivity and attacking people for saying they aren't happy with some things. It's made worse by the fact that in game, the opposite is true, global chat is full of people talking about the bugs and problems. If people's dedication to the game and passion for it is so strong, they should be able to talk to the players who aren't happy, acknowledge their reasons, some of which are probably very valid and try to help. Instead of trying to shut them down as "not true fans."
@DG360
@DG360 21 күн бұрын
Toxic positivity is called dreaming, dude lol. It's OK to dream. To your point though, making a dream a reality is where the work comes in, and we just differ on the outcome. That's fine. It's what makes bulls and bears in the market.

I like your thoughts and opinions, and it has merit. But the second you said "and isn't going to happen" you went to a point that is to taken as a fact. And no one can possibly know what the final facts are. Not even CIG. Its this that brings out the backlash you are getting. You're right, it won't be what are expectations are if/when it releases. So the expectations need to be realistic. I still hold hope they can do what they say they can, based on the latest info they have published. And that info is far different than the original pitch, and has moved many times since then. Hundreds of systems is still possible, but its gonna be a very long time. Millions of players is still possible too.
@defiante1
@defiante1 6 күн бұрын
@@DG360 No toxic positivity is when you try to shut down anyone who has a more realistic or pragmatic view on it. Or that any negative opinion on an issue in the game is just "hating" and that anything but firm agreement is an attack on that dream, an enemy of that dream. Which to anyone who has worked in anything creative, yes men don't help you make something they hinder it. Without realistic ideas of what you can achieve with your work in x amount of years, dreams will stay dreams.

@@festersmith8352 It is a fact that what we get will not be close to the original promise of the game. 20 years from now we might have a wow expansion situation where eventually it has something closer to that. 3 years from now, its likely to be a two system game. Probably still without base building and many other features. What we have is pretty good but... those who remember what was origionally talked about with the first backing, that dream died sometime ago.

Backer since 2012. Knew it would take a long time to get this made. Both as to the scope of what was proposed and because I knew from prior games that CR was not a quick and organized creator. When they came out with Server meshing as the means to architype the server based communication I knew it would take even longer then i expected back in the day. Poor management of the project though expected (CR, duh) was still annoying to see. Im sad to say I am not nearly the same gamer I was when I pledged, im not as sharp and I no longer enjoy the same type of gameplay. So my hope is still that I will be able to enjoy this game when a more "real" finished project is up and running. To me permanent persistence is a prerequisite for this, I can no longer enjoy Arena commander type content. Just like i no longer play FPS games, where I used to spend 8-9 hours a day popping off in various fps games. This is the reason that I myself hope that no more new idea's and features are put in, and a more basic viable game will get "released" sadly the big ticket items like server meshing, and dynamic economics are exactly the things that take the most time to finalize. And without them in place and functioning exactly as desired any content in the game that currently exists functionally is a placeholder and will likely require rework or updating to get to a final form. Watching the game get closer to a more functional and active game is nice to see. I occasionally install and play the game for a few weeks at a time and enjoy the content that exists for what it is, meaningless as games may be, even with permanent persistence. To enjoy it the former is what I am waiting for to actually attempt to get stuck in the game. The project is not a scam. Could it have been more far along, perhaps. But until CIG either cancels the project (then its a scam) or has it in state 1.0 there is no way to make a decision.

There's definitely a room for additional transparency. They don't tell us when a technology they try fails they just stop talking about it. They won't tell us the real reason for why they stopped the Banu Merchant Man (IMHO). They won't explain to us how the game is supposed to work nor help insurance is supposed to work when the game is released. They haven't told us how they plan to monetize the game. They haven't told us how health insurance is supposed to work. They haven't told us how things you've purchased on the cash shop are supposed to be retrievable. They haven't told us how they plan to balance everything. (They've attempted this multiple times) They don't tell us when they are going to Nerf a ship and why. There are plenty of things that CIG could be much more transparent on. I appreciate what we get now but I sure as heck would like more.

Sure. I'd like that too. Thing is, they're a private company, so they don't have to. So either be fine with what they share, which is more than most, and deal or move on. It's a game. Plenty of em out there if you get mad at this one.

If they were more transparent, would you believe them? I'm not sure they even know how to handle insurance, since players seem to do some crazy crap, and exploit every single weakness or loophole. Things the devs themselves can't seem to imagine.

Exploits and people who do it, especially.in an alpha, is the whole purpose at this stage to make the game better. Has it been in alpha too long? I think the better question is, is the technology they're creating worth the wait? Yes.

There are plenty of games that do things that SC is doing, and some look sexier and cooler while doing them a lot better, however there is no-one else is doing anywhere near as much at once, nor on such a scale, and it's not likely that anyone will try, because it is such a humongous resource sink of time, money, effort, talent, and devotion to a passion project, when all anyone wants to do is just pump out the next brightly wrapped cash cow for consumers to throw money at and move on. I, likewise, am not one to sugar coat and white knight when things just don't work (and it's SC, so that's nearly everything, all the time xD), but I'm also quick to defend the game, and the developers, when people start spouting baseless shit without looking any further than seeing and just inferring a negative tone from some clickbait thumbnail from a shitter on their feed. Sure the game barely runs for most people (rarely acceptably), and barely works most of the time, but CIG took the initiative to gamble on taking the time, effort, and money to do more than anyone else has ever dared to try to do in a single project; alongside making the "do everything game" they are developing the tech to support it, some of which may just revolutionize, and/or propagate rapid improvements across the industry for decades. SC was a successful kickstarter game that popped up in the height of kickstarter scams, they have asked for people to pledge during early access throughout a period of early access scams, and made significant amounts of money "selling JPGs" in the time of NFT scams. As long as they continue to list expensive packages for a game that is "in alpha development", people will continue to throw around the likes of "scam citizen" and "vapourware"; if CIG were to rebrand it and admit it is a Live Service game (which it has been for a very long time) it would barely shift the general opinion on it, but it would at least cement the game as existing as more than the worlds most expensive tech demo - CIG can probably never shake the stigma around themselves and this game, no matter how much they prove that they are, in fact, the real deal.

There's no lazier content than "reacting" to other peoples' videos. It's a blight on this platform and a harbinger of a failed society. It's bad enough that media consumers have substituted opinion for knowledge, but now they look to others to form an opinion for them. (Not singling this "content provider" as an egregious example.)

@janrichardsen5121 Building a community behind watching others' content and having fun on a live stream might be more than reacting to some. Entertaining, making people laugh, and bringing up topics to discuss is not what I call a blight to any platform. Linking what we watch from what others in this community find and bringing others to those we watch might even be called a benefit and has been by some of those we watch. I'd say your view is narrow-minded and a very easy lazy take.

Sorry, but stringing dreamers along and raising money on the scope of their dreams is also not a nice business practice. Chris Robert's ever expanding goal set for this game is what is so pernicious about Star Citizen and the way it is financing his empire. By always moving the goal posts and never actually making a viable product, but just keep adding disconnected systems that get reworked time and time again, without fixing the core issues with existing systems, this game is kept in an perpetual state of (pre?)Alpha, which lets the dreamers keep indulging in their fantasy of what the game will finally be. But lets be realistic for a moment: Chris Roberts has no incentive to freeze the feature set of this game. Because as soon as he does that it takes away some of the room that the dreamers have to fantasize about what could be added to the game. And that will invariably disappoint those who's fantasies will not make it into the actual game, de-incentivize them from spending more money on Star Citizen. This is the ultimate trap of Star Citizen: as soon as features are set in stone, dreaming about them becomes useless, so there is no reason for CIG to do this. This is why, after 12 years, the game is still in the half baked state it is in now. There is no incentive to finish it while the big piles of cash keep rolling in. Yes, there is the aspect of Chris Roberts being a perfectionist, which certainly doesn't help. It bit him in the ass big time on previous projects he worked on (he almost killed Origin when his perfectionism delayed Strike Commander) and got him kicked of everyone's beloved Freelancer because that was going way over time and budget and Microsoft had to step in to at least get something release worthy created from the mess he made. But the combination of no oversight (no publisher to hold him to deadlines and a fan base that seems to lap up everything he puts out regardless of time and money spent) and the perfectionist drive, are why there is no game to show for all the money spent so far. Because let's be honest, Star Citizen is still in the tech demo/early access state that it has been in since 2014, it just has more tech to show for it.
