Deryk, thank you so much for your very thorough review of our all-new Rivet Counter HO Scale Pride in Service ES44 GEVOs. We know you’re an NS guy, so it’s cool to see these units on your layout. We’re happy to hear that you’re pleased with the models and look forward to seeing more reviews from your channel, along with layout updates! -Drayton

Kaboom!!! Wow! Mind blown completely! Great review, DG! Scale Trains dropped another awesome model onto the modeling community and I couldn't be happier. I'm looking forward to getting my "fair share" of Tier 3(ES44's) but I'll have to wait for the NS version without the "pre" PTC antenna farm on the roof. I was quite impressed with the pulling power! 48 cars and with only 1 locomotive. Detail was thru the roof!

These are nice, I'd also like to check out the NS ones.

They should use Tsunami 2 for the next run because the sound files sounds way more prototypical than ESU.Other than that they are nice models, and this is a great video and review.Keep it up!
@CentralJerseyRailfan3 жыл бұрын
Probably not gonna happen, ESU motor control is best in class. There’s a reason why DCC ready variants are offered, for people that don’t prefer ESU to install a Soundtraxx or TCS decoder. IMO speakers really make the difference
@DGModelworks3 жыл бұрын
Hey, wouldn't it be cool if manufacturers could produce some with ESU and some with Tsunami 2? I doubt it would ever happen, but would give more options for people who don't want to install their own decoders.
@CentralJerseyRailfan3 жыл бұрын
@@DGModelworks Kato is the only company I could think of that offered both Tsunami and Loksound select in their P42s for example. Would be real cool especially on Athearn Genesis engines

For anyone wondering about the horn on 1776 and the sound files: The horn on 1776 is a Leslie S5TR and is correct to the prototype. However, when first placed on the locomotive, it became fouled rather quickly. Because of this, it was temporarily removed, and the locomotive wore a brand new Nathan K5LA for a short period of time to be legal while the S5TR was tuned. After it was repaired, it was put back on the 1776 where it sits today. As for the sound file, the original plan was to have the custom horns recorded from the prototypes, but that didn’t happen in time for production. Because of this, the models have stock ESU versions of the same types of horns. Technically they’re correct, but they don’t sound exactly like the prototypes. Every horn is just a little different, even if it’s the same exact type.
@DGModelworks3 жыл бұрын
I knew someone would fill us in on the horn. Thanks for the info!

Last year I purchase three n scale ET44s and one Dash 9 for the first time. I can say that the amount of detail is very impressive and they run good. The big problem I have is the Dash 9 and ET44 in a consist. Try this your self. Put them on the track not coupled together. With the sound on the ET44 take 2 seconds to move. The Dash 9 takes 13 sec to move. So the ET44 wheels are spinning until the Dash 9 gets rolling. I dont think this is good for the engines. I have talked to Scale Trains about this and they dismiss the problem. Thanks for your reviews.
@DGModelworks3 жыл бұрын
That might be a decoder issue. With ESU decoders they have the ability to have a start delay in moving. This is adjustable or can be eliminated all together. It's possible that that feature is turned off on one of yours
@RichsModelingTrains3 жыл бұрын
@@DGModelworks Yes you are correct. In the LokProgrammer under the driving characteristics tab there is an option called (Delay starting if drive sound sound is enabled). When this option is selected on all of the engines this is how they act. With it off the this problem goes away. I like this feature for the realism to the engines . Now if this is decoder problem with the way the sound file is written in just trying to point it out. You can test it for your self. Im just wanted to let Scale Train know what I was seeing. I just felt that I didnt get a good response from them. If a feature in the decoder causes a problem it should be looked in to. Im very happy with there N Scale engines just not with customer service.

Deryk, Great review, I appreciate your time and effort with the review. I got the 911 First Responder and received it a week or so ago, and like you said, it was worth the wait. I ran mine 4+ hours over the weekend without any issues. I will probably do a review, not to try and outdo you, but sometimes we see things from a different perspective and the more information we give, the better someone will be, whether they're a prospective buyer or one who has purchased one and maybe hasn't seen what we see. My review will not be negative. Terry

nice models... but mostly i'm happy that there is ANOTHER quality model maker... SOME of the issues related to high prices of HO scale stuff is lack of competition... i was disappointed when BLMA sold out to atlas... one less model maker means closer to getting stuck with high prices from everyone else

Overall great locos, and great review. My only gripe with these is the poor paint work. Yes the decal work is fantastic, especially the military unit. With that said their masking and spray painting is horrid. You can clearly see it on the front stripped plows and the painted lines and cab color transitions. To much under spray or bleeding of one color to the next. Seems to me they should of used decals for all fine paintwork. Must be a quality control issue as scale trains usually has crisp painting. I am just having a hard time overlooking this for the price. This is something you can expect from Bachmann worse yet old tyco stuff. With that said the rest of the model they did a great job.
@DGModelworks3 жыл бұрын
Now that you mentioned it, I do notice it on the plows.

Good review I really really like the train detail but for some reason I’m just not impressed with the sound coming from these trains... I have a eight Scaletrains now and sound is good some sound is not but I know that you did a review on an Athearn , Which was not as detailed but the sound was just unbelievable especially from the horn just had a lot of bass to it.
@DGModelworks3 жыл бұрын
I think it's the speakers. Most issues like that can be fixed my installing different speakers.
@mikestrains233 жыл бұрын
So you think it’s just the speakers ?but it seems like that on all my Scaletrains the sound is just not that’s great...Do you think it’s just with all scale train models or is just a defect in that particular model with the speakers?
@DGModelworks3 жыл бұрын
I believe the same speakers are used in their models. Different style speakers produce different frequencies, so perhaps a different style speaker would provide the desired results you are looking for.
