what an unexpected collaboration. Chungha loves to surprise us, frankly, she is the artist who changes concepts most often. it changes so often that we can't really give it a basic concept. Since Bicycle she also raps a little more in these songs, something she didn't do before. Hongjoong is still so good and charismatic.

I actually really like that Chungha went tthis route for her comeback. It perfectly shows the switch to a new company and how she wishes to progress as an artist by exploring different genres more. We pretty much all know Chungha for her vogue-ish sound (like in 'I'm ready') and this is a nice switchup. To your question. I'm pretty sure Hongjoon had a pretty big part in the production for it and thus where the mask comes from. I saw another commenter somewhere that said he had quite a big part in production and also some things for the MV which is cool.

I'm so glad I followed Hongjoong to Chung Ha. She's so awesome and I can't wait to listen to more of her songs and get to know her too.

The intro sample is the same bass line used in XG's Galz Xypher for specifically Jurin's part. Its a common sample I think.

We had almost the same reaction, to the familiar sounds to the representations. ChungHa is just amazing, Bycicle is one of my favorites songs like ever and I'm really impressive by this one because it has almost NOTHING to do with her "common" sounds, at least as far as I listened to, and yet it's very good. I'm convinced that she can pull off almost everything. When she first slide off from the dancers with that red outfit I almost fellof my chair, it was soo satisfying! And as a Atiny I couldn't pass out the Ateez lore possible nods, which made me wonder how much HongJoong was actually involved in this. Because he just appears for a few seconds in only one location, even though I loved his part, it seems minimal, but at the same time the whole thing is so Ateez coded. Some visuals and shots really took me back to Ateez universe, mainly world Z stuff. Not to mention the face chain mask visual. In the the end I got the senation that, even though HongJoong doesn't appear in person too much, the whole song and video seemes like ChungHa's and HongJoong's universes collided. Pretty interesting. I would love to see a bts about how this was done.

To be honest, Eenie Meenie left me pretty cold on first listen. It just felt so empty and not at all what I've come to know from Chungha. And then Hongjoong came in and gave the song that extra little something it desparately needed. He breathed life into it. And Chungha's final chorus afterwards finally clicked. So much fuller and so much more satisfying! I'm starting to like the song more on subsequent listens, even the first half. But it needs some time for me. Now on the other hand, I'M READY IS THE BANGER OF THE CENTURY, THE QUINTESSENTIAL CHUNGHA SONG, HER MAGNUM OPUS, MY REASON TO KEEP ON GOING IN THIS CRUEL CRUEL WORLD. IT IS THE BEST SONG IN KPOP SINCE HALAZIA BY ATEEZ. Ahem. You might be able to tell that I'm very happy that I'm Ready is actually a full 3 minute song. Good thing I don't have a car anymore. Otherwise that song would be getting me ALL the speeding tickets.

We can note that there is a certain resemblance with the chords of a song by Rosalia, "Saoko", (on which Jurin from XG rapped on his cypher with the other female rappers in the group) but not to the point that it or a total cover. What's more, this chord is very often used in jazz and rap jazz. (quite interesting thing here: bobby's song "harmless" uses the same melody except that the key is clearly not the same.)

There absolutely is Ateez lore in this MV. The mask, the birds, his lyrics.....they're all lore.
