@@revripple SA teams had to do double the travelling depending on whether they are playing in Australia or NZ. When NZ and Aus teams play each other, they travel short distances. They should have made it that each country host the competition every year, but then the players will be away from their families for too long. Distance and time zone differences just doesnt work for that competition. URC is better

We have watched plenty of games at DHL stadium and never have we felt unsafe! even had pre and post game parties there walking around and club hopping no incidents

Rather than bridging the gap to your 2nd/3rd stringers, let's campaign for a comp structure that ensures all teams play their 1st stringers more regularly. I mean, even F1 teams have a cap on how much they can spend. And yes, that should be done in conjunction with scheduling of the EPCR to make that comp more fair and competitive. Maybe limit the number of players in a squad to say 35. If one of them has to be replaced due to injury, the replaced player cannot return. Something like that. In 3 seasons of URC, Leinster have not once deemed it necessary to send their 1st team to SA. Conversely, Munster have done it the hard way and earned a lot of respect here, and a cup. Try as one might to be fair, it's difficult to not have some degree of schadenfreude whenever Leinster stumble at the last hurdle. Let's hope for another season of that, ie truly deserving teams winning both the URC and EPCR.

International outfit? The vast majority of the Leinster squad are Irish born. It's the French sides, in particular, who have a lot of foreign signings. All the Leinster first team were left at home being rested for their champions cup semi final. Leinster could afford to lose both URC games and still make the playoffs.

I've seen French/English sides sent b teams to Ireland in champions cup qualifying games over the years because they were focused on their own league. The reality is you when sides are involved in the latter stages of 2 competitions simultaneously, they have to prioritise and rotate their squads if they're going to compete. Leinsters goal is to win the champions cup because that is the ultimate prize. The Irish sides prioritise the Champions cup. It's always been that way. Munster are prioritising the URC because they're out of the champions cup. If they were still in it, they'd have sent a second/third string weak side to SA too. Jake White decided to focus on the URC over the Champions Cup a couple of weeks ago, probably because he saw the URC as more winnable.

😂 You can only play what’s on the field in front of you and if it’s a 2nd or 3rd string team then smash them. That’s what stormers did. And they are a star studded outfit whereas the Stormers are a team with few stars but lots of up and coming players. SA teams find it hard to compete with the huge salaries offered to our players especially when you had the exchange rate into the equation.

Leinster have a semi-final in the Heineken cup to think about. Sending down their first string squad for two games they don't need to win before a European Cup semi-final....would be monumentally risky. Munster, by comparison, only have the URC league to play, hence they sent down their first strings and won both. To be expected by Leinster with everything they have coming up.

I'd agree with this. We hear all this talk of strength in depth and a conveyor belt of talent coming through but I'm not seeing it. Like you say a few years ago a second/third string Leinster side could still compete with most top sides.

Only 3 or 4 were backups (Jenkins, Alatoa, maybe Milne), the rest were 3rd string or Academy.
