The only recording of this song was filmed on a phone in the audience of the Sundance film festival when it was premiered so I thought I would try to work my magic and make a mock-up of what a studio quality version would sound like.
I had to take a lot of artistic liberties because the original recording not only has people talking over the song at some points, but also the nature of the recording leaves out a lot of details in the instrumental.
This was made in Logic Pro X which is what the original web series's music was made with as well. A lot of the instruments in the original web series, such as the synth bass in episode 4 and the piano in episode 2, were sourced directly from Logic with little to no alteration.
I was also able to find some instruments used in this too in Logic, like the low piano, and was able to pretty closely replicate others using Logics built in plugins.
Instead of spending probably days fine tuning every instrument to sound exact, I took the baby route and boosted the highs + lows of the original recordings using OTT and layered it over the instrumental I made as well as the isolated vocals I got from • Key to the city (Vocal... . So if the instrumental version sounds a tad off thats the reason (Still better than anything we have now)
I finished the original instrumental recreation in less than 24 hours and spent about 24 hours after fine tuning some of the details and mixing. I am fairly proud with the end product though I'm sure I'm bound to notice a bunch of little mistakes directly after I upload this. Its no biggie though, I'm probably the only on who would notice most of it.
