The abolition of Income tax is an idea which appeals to a lot of Indians. It may not be as unrealistic as it sounds since BJP’s own Subramaniam Swamy is an active proponent of this. This is also a reality in many countries across the world. As many as 23 countries like UAE, Bermuda, Panama, Monaco don’t have a personal income tax in their countries. Some don’t even have corporate tax. How do these countries manage to earn revenue? What are the sources of income for their governments? I explain this hypothetical scenario and how India could potentially make zero income tax.

@varun prasad But all their service sucks police, courts, municipal services, govt offices, etc and the infrastructure is horrible. I am getting a terrible ROI for the huge taxes I pay. I would rather offload these services to multiple private companies who can do it more efficiently but I cannot. Govt has a monopoly over this and can legally do violence against me. It's not just bad, it's terrible. People are getting raped, police bully the victims, military kills innocent civilians, courts take forever to give judgement, Roads are filled with garbage and Roads become garbage after 1 rain. Govt sucks, terrible ROI.

To diversify their revenue sources, the Indian government could consider implementing other forms of taxation, such as a goods and services tax (GST) or a wealth tax. The government could also explore privatization of state-owned enterprises or increase revenue from non-tax sources such as dividends from state-owned enterprises, interest on loans, and revenue from natural resources

Per square feet security and maintenance fee for the value of property owned, will be a viable alternative, as you can't manipulate area. In municipal areas this is already charged, in apartment also this is charged as maintenance charge,only govt need to enhance this charge to take care of central and state needs. Similarly villages also can be taxed based on infrastructure provided to them by government.

Finally someone is taking this serious..income tax is tax harrassment for the salaried people. I am in favour of abolishing incometax. As i dont have any benefits of my own for paying tax, for ex,during covid times,people lost their lives and savings to corporates and hospitals. Paying taxes didnt help. Abolishing income tax would make me spend more and save for a better future

Instead of demolition of income tax we would have imposed half of the existing income tax. And and also imposed 1% or 2% income tax on marginal earnings to recover the govt revenue. We should make a strict provision while making our bank a/c to link our pan cards so that we can keep check on individuals monthly earning. Everytime I pay income tax it's too difficult understand 1)Buy car - pay high tax on gas + toll tax everytime Still road is not standard.. scam in road quality visible.. 2)Buy house - Pay big tax amount When you buy house / flat even there no facility around still need to pay l. 3) Light bill - Light bill + almost hidden tax 50% 4) daily need - Everything we buy daily which added GST Even all this I need to pay income tax now ...

If income tax is removed, then people spend more money, then gst revenue will increase, and companies will also earn more, corporate tax revenue will also increase. When corporate earn more because of consumer spending, employment will also increased then this cycle goes on. Ultimately govt can recover from other sources

Govt can impose transection tax which can be collected by banks on every transection made by account holder irrespective of individual or corporate in replacement of incometax it may be 1% on all type of bank, that can be also suppprted by digitally

Good Idea: It can be implemented slowly by Increasing the Income-tax payable amount slabs for employees. Like upto 30Lakhs per annum no tax later it can be increased gradually. As we all know most of the employees can save just 10% of monthly income nowadays as the remaining amount will go for monthly installments etc..

There is no need to consider agriculture income in income tax. There is no doubt there are pros but the biggest con is life of farmer. Which is not bearable. Our system is corrupt and they take unfair advantage of tax towards the farmers

Demerits of Zero Tax Indirect tax is regressive in nature “YOU BUY, YOU PAY”. if the government ends the direct taxes then the common people would then see the rise in the costs as the government would attempt to create its revenue from the indirect taxes as a result this will levy a higher tax on the consumer goods.

You forget to mention about Bait-ul-maal in UAE type countries. In Islam, every Muslim who is rich must donate at least 2.5% of their accumulated wealth for the benefit of the poor, destitute and others & it is reserved in the government adminstration called as Bait-ul-maal & also Bait-ul-maal provides life-saving, life-sustaining, and life-enriching humanitarian aid to underserved populations around the country or world. Giving 2.5% of the wealth every year is called as Zakat and this one of five pillars of Islam. The one who doesn't pay this donation every year doesn't consider as a good Muslim. It is being highlighted at least 82 times in the Quran to donate every year for needy/poors.

And on this wealth creation account 2% return will be given every year to thise people... Such way every one will create wealth... @Prashant Kishore I think u didnt know what is inflation its change in price of basket of goods compared to previous year(s). It depends on supply and demand but also government taxes . Also it depends on the corporations as they increase price of thier product year on year to generate more profit so that its share prices increase but usually they also Increase thier employees salary year on year . So salary increases , share prices increases ... Employees happy , Shareholders Happy , Govrnment Happy ... But the evil one is first case oviously

If India becomes completely cashless, i.e only online payment modes such as UPI, BANK TRANSFERS (NEFT, RTGS etc), then all the black money may come out, and public amount spending increases, and also there will be record of each single rupee, and bank services also automatically increases because there is only one way to transfer money as I mentioned above online payments, hence the bank may also improve their services (such as there will be no server down😂).... Due to this action indirect tax may also increases, and also some of the citizens in India who are backward also learn how to use UPI, BANK TRANSFER etc because there is no cash only online payment, and also RBI can save money which they will use for printing money.... Working on the assumption that abolition of income tax will draw out hitherto undeclared income into the open, and probably increase banking transactions, a minusule tax on banking tyransactions, tothe tune of 0.5% to 1% on cash withdrawls, and on money transfers depending upon th quantum of the transaction, might be a possible option for significant evenue generation, considering the volume of banking transactuions in a country with Indi's population size. And the smallindividual amounts might not pinch individual users, after a possible initial hesitancy, as people get used to it. On the other hand, an inheritance tax would be somewhat regressive, as it actually taxes your heirs on money you try to save for them. Also, much of the inheritance is i kind rather than cashm in the form of immovable property, jewellery etc. for which the tax would need to come out of either the heir's income, or, if this is not enough to cover it, might necessitate distress sale of such assets.

1) Income tax should not be 0. It should reduce so that it not become a burden. 2) Indian government should focus on tourism. 3) Should increase tax for foreign companies, as it is a huge market. 4) It's true that India doesn't have huge natural resources like petroleum but India has a great resource of human. It means a lots of creative mind, a hub of talent but our government never use this. 5) Last and the most important point. Indian government should spend money wisely because (income - expenditure) is more important than income.

Present govt has been unable to make a firm policy in any sector since 2014, revised the GST structure multiple times, damaged the small scale & cottage industries, lost a gem-Raghuram Rajan, made new records of negative GDP & much more... They couldn't even maintain the preexisting structure, curating something new like 0% income tax is dead impossible from them.

One interesting observation - 130 crores Indians paying GST (26% or govt revenue). 1 crore Indians paying income tax ( 25% of govt revenue). Huge exploitation of income tax payers. 😐
