Are they staying frozen regardless of the source of damage you do? e.g. was every spell tried or for example attacking with pushback abilities to get them out of this state into an active state to trigger the quest?

what if you damage them close to death and reset them for the normal fight? you hovered them after resetting and the health stayed from the first glitched state.

mrllama maybe you can do that then teleport away in the corner and come back into it then try. Also does this allow the door to open to world stone?

I saw another runner use a portal glitch where you place a bunch of em and create a invisible barrier thats blocks the ancients whe you finnaly spawn em. What if you put the portals on the spot they spawn on?

You say you can't get the quest or experience. What if you wear them down while they're frozen, then activate the stone and finish them off while their health is reduce?

It doesn't give you the quest but does it open the door?

I would start by finding a way to replicate this bug without the use of a portal. Because I'm pretty sure the portal disables the quest progression. But if there is a way to get the transition/animation race condition to occur without the use of a portal that would open up a major glitch I guess. Maybe a portal from a staff, maybe with weapon swap or something like this could work? What other ways are there which might force the ancients back into being statues?

Pop another port on the same frame the last ancient dies? Have a character start the quest first "normally", and then come in and do your trick? Some things to try.

my first thought would be to open a portal as they die as well and see if that "fixes" it and lets it complete? donno tho, please post an update if you find out more!

Have you tried moving an ancient by using telekinesis or a knockback weapon/howltusk? Maybe you're not getting the quest because they're dying at their spawn point. Worth a try. Also when you kill them, does the door open despite the quest not working?

I did it several times and I didnt get the quest done. After I kill all three nothing happens, and both doors still closed.

I wonder if you could kill 2 ancients and have the merc take down the last one. While spamming the worldstone gates. The specific second that the last ancient falls would be a vulnerable moment for the games codes and i wonder if there are ways to exploit this

So I’m guessing that going to town after they’re dead and coming back does not open the gate. What about quitting the game after they are dead and coming back in? Will that just put us back at square one and they’re ready to kill you?

My tests: 1.If you die to Light/Cold/Fire Enhant while the ancients are bugged, and come back to summit: Ancients still there in same state when you died, Altar doesnt glow red on d2r graphics! 2.Throwing meteors on all ancients spots, then doing the bug - they die while the text is still playing, sadly doesnt change anything. Game treats them as stone statues dead or alive :(

you dont get the XP and the quest, but can you pass through and go for Baal? This could mean you can save up the ancients quest for later levels when going for 99.

there still hurt after resummoning so what if you than resummon them so they can move but there already hurt so making it safe in hc?

Try cursing them or casting a debuff like Battle Cry on them? That will further add another weird state to them. Maybe even active stun swirl from like smite or mind blast

It never ceases to amaze me that you STILL grind Diablo2 after 20 years

so that's why they don't drop anything. Maybe it's known from the beginning. The give exp though. Can you abuse it to gain fast exp by only killing 2/3 of them?

Since you and your merc aren't taking any damage, there might be a roll for that to happen to earn kill credit? Perhaps getting poisoned prior and taking damage during the glitched states might work? 🤔

another glitch, if someone is standing one of the pedestals the ancients return to after killing them that player can get stuck to the pedestal

What are the chances...I had this happen twice last ladder and assumed it was a new bug in D2R...i dont record my games anyways so there was no way of going back to replicate it. Good news is that i 100% remember getting quest completion, but it was online and other people were in the game so I'm not sure it'll work in SP

Couldn't you just re-activate them properly once they are low HP? Didn't look like they reset to me when you demonstrated again. So long as you're not getting one-tapped it'd be basically the same, just have like 2 seconds of actual fight once ur done static-ing the static bosses.

What if you use Talic Lightning enhanced to kill yourself, then enter your portal in Ancient's Way and reenter Arreat Summit, maybe by reentering it will register them as alive and valid for the quest to be completed.

To make it work, you need an unkillable lvl 100 monster like a bunny from frozen tundra, herd it/chase it down the ancients way, then to the platau stairs, then, after chasing it up the stairs you can glitch the ancients like that and the presence of a lvl 100 mob means you will get the quest reward.

You only need to glitch MADAWC

I would guess kill 2 of them and then try to glitch back the easiest to normal state just before it dies ?
