Diagnosing and replacing the heater core on a 2002 Toyota Camry
Friend was filling the coolant reservoir every week and inside car, the smell was sweet. He also noticed the driver-side carpet was wet. The car did not over heat since it had a small leak and he kept on filling the reservoir.

I love how you still pressure tested the cooling system. Even though you knew it was the heater core leaking. Because you produced a secondary leak in the cooling system. Smart and straight forward, great job 👍

7:11 Much respect to Toyota for designing the vehicle with a consideration for REPAIR-A-BILITY. GM or BMW would be happy to require you to remove the dash panel to get to the heater core. Respect to Angel for sharing the videos. You are a very talented mechanic.

Wow, I didn't know it was that easy to do a heater core on a Camry like that. Most cars you'd have to pull the entire dashboard apart just to get to it. Good job Angel 😇 👏 👍

I looked up the stuff you are using as sealant. Pretty good stuff, to be used on various parts also. FIP stands for Forms In Place, for all you viewers out there :-) It sets to form an elastic body which is not affected by vibration or impact . Maintains a stable rubber body over an operating temperature range of -76°F to 482°F ( -60°C to 250°C ) and highly resistant to engine oil, various chemicals and coolant . To be used on the water pump, oil pan, valve cover, engine head, fuel pump, thermostat housing, oil pump and intake manifold Has a five-minute tack free time. but yeah, letting it dry over-night is a very good idea, just to be sure enough time was taken to let it sit and do it's work...

I had no problem when you removed the core, but to undo the crimp to pull out a pipe and then reassemble well that is real backwoods repair. You just voided a warranty for the core for sure. My thought for repair with that kind of mileage and not wanting to pull the heater box out would have been to cut the pipe and add a hose in-between to connect with spring-style clamps so will never have to tighten clamps. I would lose sleep over your repair. To each his own I guess.

Hi car, First. ask me if the heater core is still good and working. FYI it is still good and working. No leaks no problem. It’s my friends car. He would come to me if anything is wrong. If you don’t trust yourself doing the job. Don’t do it at all. Or just do it your way if that makes you happy. Just saying. Thank you for the comment.

A relatively easy job on this Camry. A nightmare job on many vehicles requiring dash disassembly to access heater core. Kudo's to Toyota engineers. I doubt that Toyota sealant (RTV?) adds any sealing when an oring seal is "lubed". When you push the fitting into place all the sealant is displaced by the rubber oring.
@EivinSukoi
@EivinSukoi 6 жыл бұрын
Texas Pipeliner Uh ? Should by now all these so called manufacturers car engineers come up with a fucking heating core cover under the front dash to have access to the heating core . Same goes for the American truck manufacturers when it cones to replace a fuel Pump , and you have to drop the gas tanks , should them install a access recess door for them .
@afcgeo882
@afcgeo882 5 жыл бұрын
The sealant helps to adhere the pipe and acts as a glue around the rubber O-ring. Remember, that O-ring is what failed, causing the leak in the first place.

Pressure test that non OEM radiator cap. It is probably not releasing at 13 psi and causing the system to over pressurize. It creates the leak at the path of least resistance.

You're AWESOME. That was only a "three SHIT and one F**K" job, but I can't believe they attached the pipes so that you couldn't install it. NOT nice, Toyota. I'm doing a leak fix on a '97 Camry now. The """""mechanic""""" who replaced the heater core a few years ago didn't replace the o-rings so the pipe joints been leaking ever since. Thanks for that older heater core video BTW, the factory service manual says to REMOVE THE DASHBOARD!
