Time to find out why this 350 (5.7) Vortec has low oil pressure and do a quick leak down test before I rip it apart! Dorman 82560 is the kit that has the filter adapter gasket.

Closer cyl to the radiator seem to seal better.

Man I’ve really been considering an oil cooler delete for the last 50 thousand miles. All my lines and fittings are new. I can’t get the junk to quite leaking to save my life. I was told no one can stop them leaking.

If you remove the factory crimp connection and oil filter quick disconnect they don't leak

Good video Sir I have a question hopefully you can help out... I got a 1995 5.7 4x4 engine that was guranteed with 114 k miles for my 1995 Chevy 2500 4x4. The junkyard is pretty reputable, and there is a warranty on the junkyard. Flash forward to this morning, I picked up the installed engine from the mechanic shop. The oil pressure has been going from zero to 40, and been idling at low speed. Once it gets going it running fine. Also, no check engine light is coming on. From the research I've done it is most likely and issue with the oil sensor or oil screen, worse the oil pump. That is what I'm hoping the Mechanic missed. Worse case scenario could I also have been sold a lemon engine?

Man I don't know why idiots gave you thumbs down, your the 1st of about 5000 threads I've read with no dang good answers. So I'm gonna ask you with hopes you can help me. I have a 2002 Chevy express van 1500, 5.7 liter v8, which I guess is the 350???? I think. I'm not a mechanic, just a poor guy, disabled on fixed income. So I have to TRY to work on my own stuff. Anyway, my problem is I have 211k miles on it, she runs and sounds good. A little weak on big hills, but not too bad. No noises, but my oil pressure gauge when I 1st start says 40 to 50 psi, after I drive for about 15 mins, when I come to a slow down or stop, pressure drops to about 10 psi, I was told to replace oil sending sensor. So after I changed it , its still doing same thing. But as I said no noises, no smoking, runs fine for 211k miles. I was told it has a screen or filter in the spot where you take out oil sensor thing. But also told NO it doesnt, that they started putting those in , in 2007. I'm confused. Also when I took out old one it had a film of dried up oil all the way across it. As I said I put in new one still oil pressure gauge flutters and after it warms up good , it drops at stops , or slow downs. When driving it stays around 35 to 40 psi. Also, not to do with same problem , but I put in a new 02 sensor, bank 1 sensor 2, because I took it to auto zone and had dish most if test, and they told me I needed a new one, and it was causing my ck engine light to come on , so I changed it, and did dish again, and of course it still says its bad. Shit I need a beer. Ok so do you know what it could be, does it have the filter in where the oil press sending thing goes, and I k,ow it has a lot of miles but its all I have. Do you think I can fix it, or should I drive it into a lake. Oh wait I only have liability ins, Damn, lol. I have to laugh at this point to keep from cryin. Man I looked at 5000 threads and watched 5000 u tube vids, and they talk about the 4.3 and the 6.0, but when it comes to the 5.7, can't hardly find nothing. I know this is long but wanted to tell you all of it so you could maybe help me out. Also have religiously changed oil every 3k miles, and use good oil filters , not cheap ones. Is sure appreciate any info you could provide. As I said I don't know why you got thumbs down, because your the 1st one I have found that makes a damn bit of sense. 1 mote thing. On ALL the u tube vids ,When replacing the oil press sending unit , they ALWAYS show that you have to reach behind the motor, or in a vans case take off dog house, and it shows the oil pressure sending unit to be straight up and down. I seen on yours, its same as mine its sideways, and a birch to get off. Thank you and sorry for being so long. But wanted to give all info. I subd your channel and gave thumbs up. Would give a thousand thumbs up if I could. I can't afford to keep throwing money at it, and sure can't afford another vehicle. Hope you're doing great with this damn virus crap. Information online can be useful because it gives you ideas of what to try. Not everyone has the same exact situation because there are a number of factors and so the solution can often be different. This video is a vlog of my experiences working on my projects. I can't tell you that your engine is fine or junk and wouldn't try to online. Also my experience is limited to my own diy projects, as I am not a professional mechanic. I can confirm a 5.7 is a 350, loss of power up hills could be a number of things too vast tah guess at, think I've herd you should replace all 02's at once. The rule of thumb I've often herd/read is 10psi of oil pressure per 1,000rpm, so if you have 10 psi at idle you could be fine by that standard. In my case it was not due to the cam bearing but also my plans were to rev the engine high RPM often and no telling how long the engine would have lasted if left alone and just lightly daily driven at normal RPM. I'm unfamiliar with any screen before the sensor but I have not worked on anything newer that dealt with oil sensors. I suggest you inspect the hole in the engine block or sideways adapter itself for any obstruction before install of a sensor. You could also try a mechanical gauge to test that your factory gauge is working properly but that would cost prob about $15 for a cheap one and like you said it's just throwing more money at it. 211k could mean a lot of things are worn and about to fail on any vehicle, it's your choice to try and keep up with & maintain all those parts, drive it into the ground or sell it and move on to another vehicle. I got a blown up 4.3 out in my polebarn, with build up so bad you can poke a screwdriver in and it'll stay up! Makes this vortec look not so bad LOL

Hey boss I love the video you explained a lot I really wish you could make a phone call to people so you can communicate I'm really not an internet person but I got so many questions to ask I have the same pickup truck 95 Chevy Silverado 5.7 and think my rotors toast I think my camshaft's toast my oil pump went out on me when I was driving I don't know if you can please help with some advice I'd appreciate that please and thank you you have a great day and keep making videos

Ok so I bought a 7000$ 98 obs Silverado senior owned beautiful guy I got it form was a semi mechanic and the truck was hand me down from his grandfather I kinda had a hunch something was being sugar coated when I checked the oil it was new etc but it had honey on the cap 🤔 I asked him what’s that about he said he just added Lucas and oil change So I drove it 1 hour home immediately noticed 15-18 psi 35-40mph city streets and 25 psi on highway. He did a replacement oil cooler and lines also Engine is sound while Driving don’t burn nothing no color smoke So I did the oil cooler delete ran 1/4 bottle marvel oil and 5/30 conventional oil on a cold start lifters tick for 5 seconds until it shoot’s up too 60psi on oil gauge Soon as trucks warm it does the 15-18psi and the other day it went too 5psi in a traffic jam . Soon as get up to speed it’s back too 18-20 All my other Chevy Silverado and suburban with same motor always had 30-45 psi at idle always I don’t know if I’m dealing with a weak pump or maybe sticky lifters or sludgy oil pump . I was trying to break sh** free with Lucas but I’m feeling like I need thicker oil again soon to get me by or resolve things Any ideas ??

I saw a video where I’m pretty sure is was a Vortec which has a seal between the oil pan pickup and the block that gets old and shrinks causing low pressure. Problem fixed.

This is part four of a series where I bought a truck for the engine. In this video I take apart the engine to find the oil pressure problem and talk about some other engine mods or engine health test. The engine had a bad camshaft bearing and that is what caused the low oil pressure.
