T-Hangers are very rare here in the EU. We have Hangers with a giant disc in the center that can rotate and can park high- and low-wing aircraft alternately. It saves a lot of space! The drawback is that we dont get a personal space i guess

Im in the UK and have yet to see a T hangar. I have deliberated as to why this is and some might say that its because there are fewer planes, rarely have extreme weather, less space, horizontal drizzle blah blah. However, my belief is that as a nation that we take enormous pleasure in moaning about everything, thus having the opportunity to move 5-6 aircraft of varying weights and sizes to get your trusty flying machine from the back, then shoe horn it back in at the end of the day, gives us the perfect opportunity to moan. Glorious.

I'd rather be under a parachute canopy at basically zero forward airspeed than to try to keep it in a stall and hit the ground (or trees) at 58 knots (~67mph). It's even more when you take the vertical speed component into account. No thanks.

@Brimstin

That's extremely unlikely, @@MickeLang, Diamond Employee. (Be careful not to let your bias cloud your judgement!) Out of the recorded SR22 parachute events, how many have drifted into power lines while under canopy? If you're that worried about extreme corner cases, you probably don't have any business flying... let alone walking outside your front door each day. Risks are everywhere. It's about assessing the likelihood of risks and having the right tools and strategies to minimize their impact. So yes, I would much rather be under canopy-especially at night, in IMC, or in mountainous terrain-than to crash land at 67mph.

On this side of the pond we usually have big ass Hangars and therefore you don't get to have your own man cave (or woman cave, but we shouldn't say that). So you cram all the airplanes together on the same floor, make sure they're not smashing each others navlights and then you shut the door. If the Hangar is high enough, you may also hang your expensive aircraft from the ceiling, almost doubling available space. So you see, depending on what is stored there already, a DA50 might not be a big deal to put in. But yeah, I'd also prefer a T-Hangar, thanks.
@CockatooDude
@CockatooDude 9 ай бұрын
Dang man I just realized something. This DA-50 has a really big wingspan, meaning you need a big hanger to fit it. It also costs around 50k a year for 100 hours. The MU-2 probably needs a similar sized hangar and costs 100k for 100 hours but you can also get one for 700 thousand fewer dollars, meaning you could buy an MU-2 and fly it around for 14 years (assuming 100 hours a year) before it would start costing more than the DA-50.

40 foot hangers are not a thing here and I wish they were. Additionally, general aviation in the USA and Canada is more laid back while here its somewhat more controlled (boring). E.g I was surprised to learn that in USA "flight following" is just "flight following" while here we've got a complicated version of it. If you know you know 😂. Then you guys have better access to AVGAS, cheaper landing fees, many mechanics, cheaper airplane parts and friendly ATC who sometime mess around. In short, for us aviation is not quite as open as it is in the west and I really hope that someday it will be.

Yeah, you mostly see them where there are a lot of GA pilots, but not alot of space available. Out in the countryside, you might as well build your own hanger, the land is cheap and available, and you don't need to coordinate with anyone. If you look at a larger GA airport like Springbank by Calgary, you'll see tons of T-hangers.

Why are so many people fan of diesel engines in aircraft? their reduced fuel consumption doesn’t compensate their acquisition and maintenance costs, the continental ones can’t be overhauled, they’re heavier and less powerfull than their avgas counterparts, and there are far fewer mechanics who can service them. about the only benefit as far as I can see is the fact jet A is more widely available. (For reference, I’m a European (Belgium)). I would never voluntarily buy a Diesel. As long as it’s available, AVGAS is king! 👑 So can anyone who’s well informed plz tell me why diamond is building diesels, and why some people would prefer to buy those instead of a good old Lycoming, Conti, etc?
@FamilyManMoving
@FamilyManMoving Жыл бұрын
"As long as it's available..." You answered your own question. I a world where gubbermint authorities like to regulate every detail, and ban every thing, many of us assume that "they" will come for AVGAS with or without lead, simply because Jet-A is more "efficient". If that sounds crazy, try talking to California about gas engines in cars. Logic does not apply when it comes to politicians.
@kristus20
@kristus20 Жыл бұрын
@@FamilyManMoving It’s not ever going to happen, they have been working on unleaded fuel, sure, they might ban the sale of 100LL yeah sure, but only if and when a drop in certified replacement is available in similar quantities as 100LL is now. There are to many planes out there, and they surely are not gonna ground the far out majority of all GA planes in the world. As for more efficient: Jet A actually has a lower energy density than AVGAS although it contains more energy for a given volume because it’s denser, but that also makes it heavier. The diesel engines are supposed to be more efficient and yes in terms of fuel consumption they are, but there is cost, a diesel has a lower power to weight ratio. For the same weight, an AVGAS burning engine is more powerful, equally true: for the same power, an AVGAS burning engine is a lot lighter.

@alphaadhito

I think it because it can't fit inside a standard T hangar (which usually can only fit a maximum of 40ft of wingspan) so a bigger more expensive hangar is needed. A T hangar usually cost $300 to $500 here, more if you choose air conditioned one.

@YaroslavNechaev
@YaroslavNechaev Жыл бұрын
I think it was originally supposed to be way cheaper but then inflation, shortages and huge demand on everything induced by near 0% loan rates skyrocketed the price. I think we should just let Diamond to churn through the wealthy buyers first and allow them to adjust the price for realistic market conditions. Maybe they'll also come up with some more powerful AE engine for it as well.

@@YaroslavNechaev if the price is set half way between da40 and da42, it would be more reasonable. For the same price as da62 it is just a big no no. The worse thing here is, it is also a less capable plane than the sr22t. More expensive, slower, unproven engine, and cd300 isn't that much more efficient than the tsio550. Unlike the AE300 which burns siginificantly less gas than IO360, the extra complexity of the cd300 didn't bring enough benefit to justify it.

@@shiroyukiwang1252 well, to be fair TSIO-550 is also quite a maintenance nightmare. I'll stick to my 4-cylinder SR20. I've been in DA50/DA62 cabin, though. It's much roomier than Cirrus, especially for the second row passengers. I'd say if we could buy it for $900k (the price of base SR22T or highly-optioned SR22) it would have been competitive. As it stands I would rather buy DA62 if I'm in Europe or an SR22T if I'm in the US.

Most spins are departure stalls (often engine failure-induced!) or base-to-final turn stalls. If you spin at that altitude - no recovery procedure will help you. Very annoying, over half the video had nothing to do with cost to own. You’ll get more views and likes if you are straight to the the point. Also the constant “humor” cheapened the information given and made it feel unprofessional.
