The reason sales are down is because Temu has taken over the market when it comes to diamond art kits. Not only are the prices cheaper than other outlets, but they offer free delivery over orders of a certain value, this is a great alternative for those who live outside the USA and Canada. I tried ordering from DAC and other licensed companies, and not only is the products almost double for Australians etc, but the delivery costs often are more expensive than the actual cost of the product, so an item costing $48 ends up costing us $178 on checkout for example. So Temu is a great alternatives for international shipping.

I have about 20 kits in my stash now and half of those are huge. Just started Family Circus from DAC so maybe can finish it in 2 or 3 months. My biggest beef is the sizes not matching up with standard size frames that are more affordable. You are right about people thinking the craft is a childrens craft, a friend of mine said " oh my little granddaughter does diamond painting ", then she stopped by and saw the paintings I've finished. Needless to say she doesn't think it's just for kids anymore.

I think I held my breath through the entire video. WOW! 🤯 Excellent presentation of facts that we all needed to hear. I agree with all the comments I’ve read and for me -it’s age. My stash will outlive me. When I croak my kids will get a big dumpster and throw out all my craft supplies. 🤦‍♀️I used to make mini albums. I gave away over 50 of them and have 50 more in totes in the basement. Sigh. Here’s how the crafty life cycle worked for me: scrapbooker➡️cardmaker➡️mini album maker➡️junk journaler➡️diamond painter➡️etsy Destash shop. Luckily I have a very understanding hubs who doesn’t say a word about any of my expenditures ❤Great video. I’m sure I’ll rewatch it. I’ll definitely share. New subbie.

I'm going to have to resort to only purchasing small DP-ing projects as the larger ones I used to do are now becoming too costly. I really am obsessed with the craft as I live alone & not involved in any other groups or activities & it's my "escape" outlet. I've only been DP-ing for the past 4-5 years & it's the best therapy & relaxation craft I've ever taken up. I even went to the trouble of live demonstrating the craft at a couple of craft shows. Many people were simply fascinated by how it's actually done. I hope & pray DP-ing never dies out!

I agree! I hope it never dies out. If my stash is any indication, and I know I'm not alone, many of us have enough put by to last a lifetime even if we can't get new ones. Thank you for this video! I just started purchasing from DAC and already hit Diamond status. I'm right there with you!!! I have a big enough stash for two lifetimes now and am destashing some. There are specific reasons members are very protective of their status with that company, which I won't go into here. But you have put your finger right on the pulse of what is going on. Please value your precious time! Its the only commodity we have that is not renewable - we never get do-overs and can't turn back the clock. When I get caught up in FOMO now, I call a friend I can laugh with so the urge goes away. Much better use of my time and money. Hope this helps.

I know this is 3 months ago but I just saw this. My reason is still prices, the time I have and the space. I want to buy more kits but I can't right now. I do not have the space and time. Not to mention funds. DAc For example only offers expensive large canvas options. I may not have the time or money for a 60*60 that cost $100+. A lot of people bought canvases because they were affordable (unlicensed ), at home and had more time. They don't now. Most people work multiple jobs and can't dedicate 2 to 4hrs a night to diamond painting. The other reason is because in the beginning it wasn't so heavy with rules in the community. Those that buy discount images are shamed because it's most likely stolen art But paying $40 to $100 per canvas is really expensive for many people. If they can buy it's one at a time. They also can't participate in most events because of the legal problems if they only have none licensed Canvases. That kinda takes the joy out of it for some. It's supposed to be a relaxing hobby but it has in some ways added stressors and unintentionally excluded people. That's not to say every company is price gouging, they gotta pay the fees to the artists and pay themselves. However, at times, I even felt excluded because a canvas I had wasn't allowed to be officially part of an event or shown in a group I was in. So, I can understand the declining sales.
@WandasWorkbasket

You've hit on something I hadn't considered - excluded from challenges. I've run two challenges now with no such rules. We want it to be as easy and breazy as possible to be a part of a fun world-wide challenge. I understand if a challenge is sponsored by a specific DP company that only their canvases are allowed, and I have plenty of canvases from various places so that I don't think I'd be excluded from most. But I can see your point! People should not be excluded just bc they can't afford the big expensive kits. Come and join our January and August challenges. Low rules. High fun. World-wide community. Weekly prizes.

I got into Diamond Painting in a big way recently and I got carried away and bought so many kits, I'm probably set for the next couple of year. I think you're right there. That has hit to be a big part of it I just started 2 months ago and I couldn't help buying more Diamond Art Clubs, after trying the first one from them My first will be done in about a week and it took me 2 months to complete. I have 7 more kits to start and some are larger than the one I'm working on now. So I have about a year and a half's worth now waiting to be started. That may well mean I'll TRY not to buy more for a while. But I adore diamond art painting and it'll always be in my life for sure. When I get low again, I'm sure I'll be on a big buying spree and start all over again.😊

What a fantastic video! You touched on so many pertinent points. I only started diamond painting at the end of 2023. Yes, I have a stash, but I stick to particular themes (cats - but only black or Maine Coone because they are the cats who live with me), Harry Potter, Disney - one castle and several princess silhouettes, dragons, some florals and a couple of landscapes. I am retired so have plenty of spare time and also suffer from mental problems. I have tried every type of therapy and only diamond painting has worked. I find it absorbing and calming. I only do budget paintings and the maximum size for me is 40 x 40. I do not have the space nor inclination to do anything larger. I also stick to round drills as I have arthritis in my right hand and find squares too fiddly to lay down correctly. I currently have all the paintings I want/need now and all are neatly stored. When I complete one it either goes in my A5 portfolio or a frame/poster hangers. I think one of the things I enjoy is being able to regularly alternate what I display so my completed paintings all get displayed at some point. What I'm trying to say is, just because a painting is completed, it doesn't have to be put away, never to see the light of day again. Change them around. Have fun. Be creative - add some ABs or crystals to your kit if you like how it will look. However, as you so rightly point out, it's ok to put it aside if you're not feeling like it on a particular day. Read a good book, take a walk, do another craft you enjoy (I crochet, but mostly in the winter months). Do what makes you happy and don't feel pressured into buying up-market kits you can't afford or belittled by certain sites which wax lyrical about their expensive, huge paintings. You do you! ❤

A lot of these cheapo smaller companies steal art from artists. Cheap Diamond paintings look cheap. Small Diamond paintings are too pixelated there is no way around it. I buy Diamond paintings that have 100k plus drills. I want something I will hang on wall. I only buy one or two a year . I’d rather have quality rather than quantity.

@floraleia
@floraleia 7 ай бұрын
I agree with so much that you have to say. It's hard for people to justify continuing purchasing from a premium company if the product and quality offered is not to par. I also think people are getting tired of mostly larger canvases with a FOMO marketing model - especially when those canvases cost more and take more room to store. As an international customer the costs are even higher! Every little bad business decision can add up. I wonder why more businesses aren't releasing kits that license at a more mid-point price beyond Make It Market (Michaels'), Leisure Art, or Diamond Dotz. It seems there's a real gap in the market between cheap budget and expensive premium licesned. I personally don't mind dark art myself so I've got some more choice available with image selection, but I do prefer a softer render with more confetti and only some companies offer this kind of style.
@WandasWorkbasket
@WandasWorkbasket 7 ай бұрын
I agree about the gap in the market! There should be more mid-range prices. Maybe it depends on the quality of the drills overall. And mid-sized too. The sizing is just off. Whoever fixes those two difficulties will corner a huge market, for sure!

I recently bought 2 budget canvases with stock images/AI to see how I like it and alternate it with my premium canvases and be able to diamond piant without too much of a hit into my budget, and without hurting artists out there Loved the video 😊

I feel bad because I’m just now getting into diamond painting. I hope I’m not coming to the game too late. Can you tell me what static drills are? I did notice they give too many little pieces I don’t need since each kit had them. I bought most of mine from KZfaq auctions. That way I have gotten them very cheap. I was stunned at the range of prices. I really like what you said bout it all. Thank you!

Tiu are not getting into it too late. I think it is around to stay if the companies make some changes. Those of us who love it will keep buying as long as we can. Static drills mean drills (the little bits of plastic "diamonds") that gather a lot of static electricity in the envelop or baggie. they stick together or jump around when you try to pour them out. I will be having an online sale in a few weeks on a Saturday. If you are part of my facebook group, you will be notified as the date gets closer. thank you for your comment!

Totally agree with what you are saying. I think it's like anything else that hits a high point, and it's downhill from there. I tried destashing a few kits about two months ago. I kept lowing the price, and no one wanted them. I am on a no-buy unless it's a kit that I absolutely can't do without. I have made it two months now without buying anything diamond painting. I do love cross-stitch conversion because it takes more of my brain power, but regular diamond painting is getting a bit boring. It's great for watching TV and on the phone time, but I am realizing there are so many other things in life to do. And yes, I LOVE smaller kits! DAC tends to go bigger and bigger right now, except their Amazon kits, and I no longer want kits that are going to take me a few months to finish.

Everyone I know who does this craft has no intention to stop. The kits may not be selling well, because retail stores are not promoting the craft. They may have a dozen choices of pictures and nothing in the way of accessories! Two things that may be destroying this great craft. The kits themselves are complete and the packages are quality. You cannot beat most of the prices and now I see you can purchase the canvasses already on a frame! I am confident that this craft is here to stay.

We live in a society of supply and demand. If the price is high, buyers must have disposable income in order to afford them. Buying second hand is risky. Most diamond painters have limited time to work on a painting, so quickly accumulate a stash which can take a year or longer to complete. I purchase mainly from the U.S. As far as shopping overseas goes, I purchase from them as I seek out artwork I cannot find anywhere else. I enjoy Asian landscapes, buildings, cherry blossoms, and koi. I get large, high quality artwork and kits. Supply, Cost, and Demand will determine the future of any craft.

So I am going to counter this video. But! With the utmost respect. You have a very nice voice for speaking on important matters. You are correct about Temu and there is Allie Express as well. But sales are not down. I belong to a host of groups and chats as do you I assume? DAC did a video on KZfaq that says different and that their sales are up. Temu is killing it as the top seller, you are right there. I also noticed there are a host of other sellers that are making bank and then some, such as Everydaydeals and another big company like DAC that I just got a couple of and they seem to sell diamond paintings of photos. As an example of that, I got one my home by the bay San Francisco with Hot Air balloons in rhe Sky and a Vintage one with a Red Cardinal in it. Both very large and just as prices weren't exactly cheap. I will get you that company info. The reason I question your video title, is Diamond Painting has been on thr news everyday this week with an Interview with DAC and a couple other well known sellers. (not Temu). This crafting hobby is booming sweetie. People are buying them up like candy, and the groups are full up with so many people from all walks of life. This particular craze, will not die out.. What is dying out is Junk Journaling, Glue Booking etc. The next big ticket item and just as popular is Adult Coloring and Color Pencils. Both selling like wildfire!! But again, where you are so correct on, is Temu also put themselves in that market as well, especially the Colored Pencil collections. So, it will change in some markets, but will not be on the way out anytime soon.. this is a good topic! Tell me more about the reprints? And what can we do, if you can't even recognize the picture with so mucu pixeling? You know the other big argument that is going on is Licensing. DAC and their customers are shaming those of us who buy from Temu and other businesses. The thing they don't realize, is that overseas are not subject to our laws, which includes copyright laws. I personally talked with Temu who also informed me of that, but that they buy the rights to the art on the canvases or they get them from spots where they are copyright free. That is what I was told. Now I am not naieve, but with that controversy, I don't see Temu backing down from it. Anyway lady, good topic! I just wanted to let you know, Respect always ok?
@WandasWorkbasket
@WandasWorkbasket 5 ай бұрын
Respect, yes. that came through. I love a good discussion! And value your thoughts. Adult coloring has been popular long before DP and probably long after. I do remember mentioning that all crafts ebb and flow in sales, depending on new advances and if celebrities get on board. DAC is always self-promoting. That's what they do. They also stifle competition which I don't find appealing. However, they are one of the best companies out there an d I do purchase from them. I'd love to know which other company you like. I also love Dreamer Designs and promote them. And you are correct that copyright laws are different around the world. I do not support shaming anyone bc they purchase unlicensed art, tho I do thin it is important that artists are compensated for their work. Talent needs to be recognized and supported as possible. Not everyone can afford the best expensive paintings and everyone, at all price levels, should have access to crafts they love to do. That is what I support. Yes, I am involved in several DP communities and check out a variety of other YTers tho I don't have the time to scout around as I'd like. I have a part-time job and a second channel and extended family to care for, as we all do. And I love practicing my craft - as, no doubt, do you. Thank you for the great feedback. I hope and pray this particular craft won't be going away anytime soon. Have you seen the new ones in Walmart?

Why do you put original packaging in the baggies with drills?
@WandasWorkbasket
@WandasWorkbasket 2 ай бұрын
I don't understand your question. Is it for the kit manufacturers or me? Sometimes I cut the original sealed packs from drills that I open as I use them when I pour the leftover drills into baggies. It helps me identify the kit and the sequence number (any identifying info from the packaging) that it comes from in case, when I get to the end, I miss a few drills of that color. I can then go back and fix it easily. Does that answer your question? I hope so. Thank you for the comment.

One thing I’ve noticed not sure if mentioned yet. But when tool kits are removed when being re sold when you buy premium kits the tool kits are part of the cost so do think we always should get them when buying destash ones. Especially with dac as you get washi tape and cover minders ( with newer kits). Even though I know we all know tools we won’t use in the tool kit I do always think they should always be included x

This is an interesting topic. I think the market is pretty saturated. Being an average diamond painter of average means (a teacher), I do not 'collect' diamond paintings. I keep a wish list and very rarely buy on impulse. I find I don't want some dps so much after a few months on my list. I only buy the ones I absolutely know I love, not just like. Also, I avoid the dps that I perceive have an evil, dark element. And I'm happy in my little wholesome diamond painting bubble.

I prefer the Dark, gothic, bloody, satanic paintings. The more blood, horror and the better. I'm huge horror movie buff and Flowers, Cats and dogs not my thing. To each their own I guess. I stopped buying from AliExpress for my paintings, after 5 yrs quality became my priority and Temu just falls short as far as paintings

For me the reason I am not buying is I feel the industry has become so dark in the art that they have offered

You’re right. Too many creepy images with demonic imagery or witches, girls with bleeding eyes, horns on everything, etc. I won’t buy anything I can’t show Jesus. I like cute kits and landscapes, not Medusa and dragons.

@@imissnj2 I'm going to sound like a total kook here, but I would be scared to death to have those demonic images in my home. I would be afraid satan would let his presence be known, nope, don't want that. Creeps me out far too much! I was talking to my daughter about it and she diamond paints as well, well, both of my daughters do and they both agreed!

I never thought I would see a day when the occult and witchcraft would b mainstream. Even things for children.
