Taking a look at the Diamondback Sidekick DA/SA .22 caliber revolver.
There seems to be an updated manual, which warns of dry firing. My manual clearly states that dry firing is safe to do, as the cylinder is counter bored. Yes, I have read the manual many times. Follow the manual sent with your model so as not to void warranty.

leftyhatr 0 seconds ago I like mine but definitely some QC issues. I was excited when I heard about this on the net and decided I wanted one. SA feel with a DA trigger. COOL. I found one at a local gun show and talked the guy down to 3 bills OTD including tax. I was very disappointed with the DA pull. The manual said it was safe to dry fire, so I oiled it and just sat and dry fired it every night until my hand was sore. That seemed to help some. I finally got to the range and noticed it shot low. I held it on the front sight where it was accurate made a mark on it and ground it down when I got home. I put a few hundred rounds of lr and mag through it and noticed that the da pull seemed to be getting a bit better. I don't have a scale so I don't have a weight on it. The DA was definitely less though. My biggest irritation was ejecting mag cases. The empties that were the closest to the frame actually scraped brass into it after a while and I really had to fight to get the them out. When I got home I took out my dremel and put a polishing stone in it. I tapered a ramp where it was scraping and now they eject fine. I used some aluminum black on the face of the ramp and it's barely noticable. It's a shame that you would have to do all that to a brand new gun. These are design flaws that the factory knew they had and yet let them go out like that anyway. I put a set of walnut lined black pearl grips on it and it looks pretty good. Overall I like the gun AFTER I fixed it.

I like mine too, but I sent my first one back twice, the first time because the front sight was slanted at least 5 degrees toward the shooters left, which was the case with 2 of the 3 Charter Arms revolvers I got. The double action also got HARDER over time until it wasn't even useful anymore. I sent it back a second time and Diamondback elected to replace it. On the positive side, they told me it would be 6-12 weeks to get a replacement and 2 days later I received notice that it had been shipped. I received my new sidekick in under 12 days, and it was a new model that you don't have to worry about losing the spring or anything when you change cylinders. The bad is the new one also has a front sight that is visibly slanted to the left. The only way you can easily spot this flaw on any of my 3 revolvers that have it is to look back from the muzzle and look at the base of the front sight against the plane of the top-strap. You can't tell by looking through the sight picture.

Find someone who has a chronograph to check the speed of those rounds that are so tight in the chamber. I read one man who used a 243 brass cleaning rod with a drill press polishing the inside of the cylinder real good as he said the Cerakote finish in the clinder was making extraction hard.

the biggest problem i've experienced is the magnum shells sticking within chamber trying to eject same, has a notch in rim of each chamber so you can dry fire without damage/dummy rounds maybe contributing to problem, mine had the LR cylinder attached when out of box needed to replace it with the magnum cylinder with easy instructions; i like it though, just need to let spent cartridges cool a bit to eject them easy. i like to try and stage the double action shots by stopping complete pull, with tip of tf against side, for fraction of second to line up bead steady though, as the spring not broken in yet.

I just bought one at Academy last week, In big documentation in several places there was a warning saying that dry firing this revolver WILL void the warranty and cause damage to the firing pin.
@untacticaltexan

I was so excited when I found this gun. Had my local gun shop order it for me. I had the High Standard version years ago and loved it but as a habitual trader I had traded it. Now with this new sidekick in hand I was sorely disappointed. The trouble started with a broken or missing firing pin return spring. The factory repaired the gun and returned it to me. The first attempt to fire the gun was a failure due to numerous fail to fire due to light hammer strikes. Tried five different brands failed with all to differing degrees. Next trip back to the factory. After receiving the gun from the factory I finally tried the magnum cylinder and had the same problem as the reviewer, the cases swelled so bad they were very difficult to remove. Also on some occasions the swelling caused the cases to back out of the cylinder and stop the rotation of the cylinder.
@untacticaltexan
@untacticaltexan Жыл бұрын
That's a mess. I only had the magnum cylinder issue, which I attributed to a couple of boxes of ammo that had given me trouble in other guns. I am going to get it back out and do some further testing with it. I'm sorry to hear you had so many problems!

I keep reading claims that you can dry-fire the diamondback without worry. This is NOT what the company stance is on it and I don't know where it started but the manual says DON'T DRY-FIRE and the plastic bag that it comes in, inside the box says DON'T DRY-FIRE, so use your own judgement. The company says it will void the warranty...

Just beware of one thing...Diamondback is always out of stock of extra cylinders. I have been on a waiting list for a while now. Some of these are shipped with just one cylinder; either a 22lr or a 22mag. I went into a local gun shop and while I was at the counter, I asked for verification that it came with the two cylinders. The salesman assured me that it did. Even the tag on the gun said 22lr/22mag. I went through all the paperwork and paid for the gun. When I got the box and opened it, it had just the 22mag cylinder. I asked the manager of the store and he said that it would've cost me $60 more if they had one with both cylinders. I said I would be glad to pay the extra. He looked around and couldn't find any with the 22lr cylinder in their stock. I was pissed. I will never go back to that store again. And the wait for the cylinders to be made at the Diamondback factory seems endless. Good luck if you get stuck with one without the extra cylinder.

@@untacticaltexan Although I was mad, they made it sound like it was going to be a quick process; of course. But then I see that there is a waiting list and that is what chaps my hide. Even Diamondback advertises that their product comes with two cylinders. Found out different.

@@Brandi6666 It actually came with the wmr cylinder but not the 22LR. I just ordered the 22LR cylinder for $50. So in the end, I still made out because everywhere else that they were available with both cylinders, they were selling for $320. So I paid $240 for the pistol with the wmr cylinder and now $50 for the 22LR; $290 total. So It came out ok. Just not the deal I initially thought.
