it's 1979 not 1879. Motörhead, Van Halen, Kiss, Sweet, Sabbath, Purple, UFO all had produced music with similar intensity. in addition all the punk music in those years. Excellent stuff, but not a unique rock experience.

This is live, with real vocals, imperfections are what life is about, and making no apologies. Theres nothing wrong with the footage or the sound. This was all analog with tube amps, done live . Clearly these lads have amp-le talent and left an impression on the metallica boys , and lead singer Sean Harris here looked up to Robert Plant. Great history, Its left an impression on me.

Lightning To The Nations was sorely underrated. Even though I was old enough to listen when they came out, I had no idea who they were until Metallica released some covers of their songs on the Garage Days tape from the 80s. Even that was difficult to get your hands on until they re-released it. At least that is how I remember it. Once you found someone that had the Garage Days tape, you begged, borrowed and stole to get a copy. I wore out several copies that I had made, either by the tape player eating the tape or just playing it until it no longer sounded good. After being stationed in Japan in the early 90s, I came across the Lighting To The Nations CD and snapped it up. Looking back to 1980, I was listening to Thomas Dolby, The Cars, J. Giles, Devo, etc. and I wonder what my younger 1980s self would think of Diamond Head. They were certainly on another level and deserved way more credit for the influence they had on more popular bands.

Most 1970's working class households in Britian didn't have coloured TV's yet alone video recorders, the fact someone did record and save this is a miracle....🤘🏻💎👍🏻 Edit: I could be wrong but it could be the fan recorded with a old camcorder pointed at the TV?? I dunno man..... the world had already seen the likes of MC5, Stooges.... by this point Krokus, Riot, Priest had already released pretty heavy albums by 1979. As noted Sabbath predates this by a long shot and honestly sounds much darker. Saxon had already gained notoriety by this point as well and they were far more raucous and proficient than DH. Rose colored glasses. Diamond Head didn't truly come into their own for a few more years.... and Sean Harris as we know him today.... several more.

The first four sabbs albums pretty much the template for doom sludge metal. I respectfully suggest having a listen to some of Zak Wylde's live covers - they update the songs (very slightly) and they sound awesome. I have been into metal since the 70's too - and Diamond Head always struck me as pretty much a lightweight pub band. Not saying they didn't do some great tracks, but the albums lacked consistent quality. If you are after some influencial listening I would also agree with the MC5 / Stooges reference.

@@barrybarry9714 I first heard it then I was 9 years old. Scared the crap outta me! But by the time Master of Reality came out they were my favorite band. It sent me down a dark path for awhile though. By 75 when Sabatoge came out I was listening to new stuff as well. Disco was our nemesis until NWOBHM. emerged

I have got a copy of Lightning to the Nations MCA from 1983. From this footage it seems as if this song was fully formed back in 1979. Punk had just sort of died the year before (yes I know it's not dead) But it is amazing to see Colin Kimberley and Duncan Scott bass & drums respectively. I saw DH for the first time in 1991. on the 7 years dead tour. I met Brian & Sean Harris, Carl Wilcox. If there are any more songs I would love to see them!
