Ms. Reeves always takes us on a journey with her artistry. She is truly virtuosic in her musicality, delivery, placement, and story telling. We're so blessed to have her!

I've heard a lot of renditions/covers of this wonderful song, from Joni Mitchell herself at various times in her life, to the incomparable Neil Diamond, and I truly think this is the best by far. It's calmly, deeply emotive, and very evocative of the magnificent depths of the emotions in this incredible piece of music 🎶 ❤ 👌

Agree. I am a Joni aficionado and I've been present to see and hear this song performed live by many artists, including Joni. I saw Dianne Reeves perform "Both Sides Now" in Hollywood in or about 1996 -- and have heard no better rendering before or since.

Julie Richards@ I was thinking the same, that this is the best rendition/cover of this song that I’ve heard. Of course, Joni Mitchell wrote the song and I’ll always love listening to her sing it, but I love the emotion that Dianna Reeves puts into this beautiful song.

Dianne Reeves has a beautiful voice and does a wonderful interpretation. But David Torkanowsky adds the most wonderful chord colors to accompany her.

Stunning interpretation! I find this performance so spontaneously alive and full of honest emotion. She does the unthinkable of making Joni’s song like Strauss’s “Four Last Songs” - beautiful and wonderful at different stages of life. I can’t wait to hear this song when she sings it at 75. While Joni’s version sounded like a young woman coming of age, this version, with only a small amount of the vocal gymnastics she could use, gives us a person that has been through life’s challenges and still loves life and its uncertainty. There’s a joyous wonder in her interpretation. I have a feeling Joni would embrace this version wholeheartedly with love and affection.

Nice voice, good singer, but this song has too few words per bar to be a ballad!

I'm sorry, but I find this performance way too mechanical. She's more interested in vocal gymnastics than the deeply existential emotional meaning of the song. She makes the classic mistake of jazzing up and un-jazz-able song in all the wrong ways. She's an amazing vocalist, but I hate this rendition of a truly great song. The meter is off. I'd rather listen to Joni. Many other great vocalists have done this way better. Even Coda's version is fantastic and a true example of not just singing the song beautifully, but conveying the emotion. I recognize her enormous talent but the power of the song is in the message and this trivializes that, much akin to singing the National Anthem the same way.

Also, there’s a history behind this song. Joni Mitchell was not famous when she wrote the song so she deferred it to, against what she felt was right, Collins, whose version she did not like. Although Collins made the song, extremely famous, Joni felt that she didn’t convey the message properly. It wasn’t until Joni was able to record it herself, and had gained her own fame before she stated what she really felt. This is way more mechanical than Collins’ version. Singing isn’t just about talent, especially with a song like this. It’s about conveying the emotion of the song to which the singer fails miserably. It’s not about dancing chords, it’s about life.

Do you like Seal's version?
@TheSuperSport11 ай бұрын
@@klepp19 thanks for asking. I assume you mean the tribute to Joni Mitchell. Yes, I do like that version but I’m not in love with it. It is deeply emotional, however, in the moment and quite moving. And quite an evocative arrangement musically. I think Emelia Jones does the best version of the song in the movie Coda, other than Joni, of course.
