It's also called wild pepper and has a nickname of "the strange and unique flavor". Both its root and fruits can be used as spices. Litsea has an unique flavor and can add a special fragrance to dishes.
However, those who cannot stand it says that it's the spice that keeps Northerners away, just like the cordate houttuynia! I picked a basket of litsea in the mountains and made stewed duck as well as several dishes. I also fried some litsea oil for later usage.

Translation: Litsea(木姜子), a magical southern spice that lots of northern people may don’t like. Litsea is a very traditional and local spice in Southwest China where people use its root and fruit to cook. As you can see, the fruit can be made into Litsea oil to extract its special flavor, a mixture of pepper and lemon. The fresh fruit can be used to make pickles. In this video you can also see tree tomato (in her local dialect) which has a stronger sour flavor than tomato. There is a local cuisine in Yunnan Province: fish hotpot with special sour soup. This cuisine is made of fermented tree tomato sauce and Litsea oil. It’s very delicious! She is gonna to make three more videos to introduce local spices in her hometown. The topic is spices in different seasons. Btw I am not from Yunnan just a fan of her so there might be some errors.

The spice she harvests at 1:03 is 木姜子 ("wood ginger", aka mountain pepper), Litsea spp. These species, which grow throughout southern China, are high in citral (which also gives lemon myrtle and lemongrass their characteristic flavor). The fruit she harvests at 1:27 is 树番茄 ("tree tomato", aka tamarillo), Solanum betaceum. These range from yellow to purple and taste sort of like a tropical tomato.

We call it "santu tero" here in Ziro, Arunachal Pradesh, India 🇮🇳... The reason why I enjoy her videos so much is because most of the spices or food in general is what I have ate growing up. And I learn many new ways to use those ingredients from her videos.

Raw chicken bones are okay for dogs, but cooked bones can splinter. My dogs eat raw chicken feet from time to time. It's good for their joints.

I'm always so intrigued with Asian writings I think the writing is so beautiful and so foreign because I'm used to seeing letters. I heard it's the most difficult language to learn because thiers so many dialects and symbols! 영상 볼 때마다 느끼는건데,영화의 힐링 요소중 하나인 요리 장면을 보는것 같아요!! 나무가 가득한 아름다운 초록색 숲에 알록달록한 옷을 입은 한 여주인공이 말 없이 다가와 야무진 손으로 싱그럽게 생긴 신선한 열매를 따는데 ASMR 처럼 크고 또렷하게 들리는 소리들이 너무 좋아요 그 외의 곤충소리도 조화롭게 스며들어서 듣기좋고요! 요리후의 가족끼리 대화하는것도 화목해보이고..진짜 너무 너무 예쁜 힐링 영화의 한 장면 같아요..♡♡♡♡♡
