Our ancestors would make the most of every part of a pig. Mix pig blood with pork, tofu and spices to fill into pig intestines and you will get the Mixed Tofu and Blood Sausage, a local cuisine special to our place. It has mixed flavors of tofu and pork. We would usually hang it to dry, then steam until cooked and deep-fry to remove the moisture. Cover the sausages with lard and they can preserve for a whole year! Which sausage flavor do you like, sweet or salty?

For all those haters who don’t understand different recipes using blood, know that blood sausages are common across the world. From China, all the way to Argentina. Argentines love morcilla (blood sausage) and it’s cooked alongside asado. I know this because I was born and raised there. Also a common dish (although cooked differently from place to place) in Spain, Germany, France, Brasil, Vietnam, Korea, etc. Also blood is used in many sausage recipes as a binder. So in the nicest way possible, check what you eat before hating other cultures and their cuisine

This particular video brings back a lot of memories. I grew up in a family where we butcher pigs till my late teens and I remember waking up early every Saturday where the whole family prepares the blood sausage (but we use the pure blood and herbs that are found locally in Mizoram, India), the meat, the organs being boiled and sold out to localites... The lard and smoking the pork up to be sold or eaten. I was somehow growing up a vegetarian in a house of butchers and a very picky eater. I grew to learn eating meat in my teens, and still a limited picky eater here and I refrain from eating meat unless it's from my own family butchered meat (this stays for a long time and till date, it's safe to say that I don't buy or eat pork unless I know that the place of production is as neat and careful as my family used to be). But your video really really bring back memories and I really do miss those days now and craving meat somehow, which is strange (I used to hate the butchering day as a kid - too much work and errands to do). Though I still can't stand to eat blood sausage and organs of any meat 😅 I love you Dianxi Xiaoge and keep up the good work. You made my day most days... Always was a silent viewer for more than a year, but can't refrain this morning 🤭

French cuisine use a similar technique to make duck confit - to first marinate and then cook the duck legs, bake/fry it in duck fat to remove the moisture and sanitise it, and then soak it in the same duck fat to preserve it :) The meat becomes very very tender and not greasy at all.

Preserving food is needed because there was no refrigeration back then for storage and to improve its flavor. There are many ways to preserve your food - salting, caramelizing, drying, pickling, marinating and seasoning. The seasoning and spices we use today also contains anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties that prevent your food from spoilage and extend its shelf life.

Eve running water & electricity is not civilisation.. that’s modernisation of civilisation, civilisation is farming, hunting, housing, gathering etc! You were at the right place! If you want to make lifestyle changes, go back to age old, traditional/civilised way of living, which is, rise early, eat 3 meals a day, work hard, go to bed early! This is how our grandparents & great grandparents lived, and then we wonder, why they look healthy and are more active than youngsters are! Lesser the technology the better it is!
