Showers of scours! We have never had that problem in our flock but it’s always good to be prepared and in the know! (Now if it happens my wife will have to put up with a Pepto Klepto!)

I don’t have a per weight dosage for you as the manufacturer breaks down dosage based on age. I have reviewed the information in pharmaceutical guides as well and it shows age. Based on the treatment window for a 6-9 year old human, we have determined a dosage of 10ml regular strength or 5ml extra/maximum strength works well. You can use this as often as every hour as needed not to exceed 2.1g of bismuth subsalicylate (active ingredient in pepto) in a 24 hour period. Hopefully this helps. Tim

I’ve recently seen the video on hybrids and how to get to more of the breed we want. I’m in Ky and this is my first year having sheep. Purchased Shetlands (ewe and lamb) in April and I suspect that they’re not full blooded and I have 2 Suffolk/Hamp ewe crosses. I’d like a small herd of about 8-10 splitting the breeds up evenly but want to get closer to full Shetland and full Suffolk. I’m considering AI for the four of them, can you give some guidance on this and maybe some places to start looking?

Hello, Jay! Thanks for watching our videos and for the questions. Those are a couple of very different sheep breeds you have there. You are going to struggle to keep everything separated if you start introducing males. I agree AI may be your best option. The University of Kentucky has a good sheep program and you will want to reach out to them for more information regarding who performs LAI in your area. You can find their website by typing "University of Kentucky Sheep" in google. Hope this helps!

Will a buck and a ram get along ok?

We have had good luck keeping our bucks and rams together. There may be a little bit of arguing at first, but they normally work it out, without any major issues. We keep about 8 males together. Seems that if they have enough space to get away from one another, they do fine.

Green scours can be a sign of eColi but is not a definitive enough diagnosis just on color. If your animals are wormed and are having green scours, especially in young animals, you might want to consider an oral antibiotic scour treatment such as spectoguard. This contains the antibiotic spectinomycin and is available in most farm stores. It is red in color and is sold as a hog scour treatment. Many people (including Linessa Farms) will use this extra-label for sheep and goat scours when a bacterial infection is suspected. We aren’t veterinarians so you should consult your local vet if you aren’t comfortable using this.

I just had this problem and lost 3 lambs… sad the vet came out and gave a bunch shots… lost another one the 4th of July. Not sure still the cause of death.

Thank you for supporting our channel. Many times this ends up being coccidiosis but it is difficult to determine. One year we lost 12 goat kids to an ecoli outbreak. These incidents can cut eliminate an annual profit and severely hurt a farm operation. We are sad to hear this happened to you. Please stick with it. Next year will be better.

Coccidia. They will need a coccidia medication very soon such as toltrazuril or Corid.

@@deniseharris9252 I am not a veterinarian and cannot give medication directives, legally. Corid is a coccidia medication that can be purchased over the counter at any farm store. reatment: Add 3 fl oz. to 1 pt of water and, with a dose syringe, give 1 fl oz of this solution for each 100 lb body weight. This will provide a dose of approximately 10 mg ampolium/kg (2.2 lb) body weight. Give daily for 5 days. You will also need to figure out how they got the coccidia, and how to prevent future illnesses. Corid will usually cause vitamin B problems and you will also need to supplement them. This is a complex and usually life threatening issue that requires a vet unless you are very experienced.
