I'm a laboratory tech and do my own ovum/worm counts on my animals at home. I give them all DE and non of them ever have any internal parasites: horses, cats, dogs, chickens, goats. DE is freaking awesome.

Have yiu by chance used a control group at any point? Animals tend to develop immunity and resilience as they get older, which stops them putting out as many eggs. Not to say the DE isn't doing something, as you an see from the video the jury is out. But hard to draw a conclusion without a robust study. Glad you've found something that works for you, what ever the mode :)

Well, I have personally known de to save some puppies lives. Had a friend who was fostering some puppies for a lady and she asked if I wanted to see them while visiting. There was one with a noticeable large tummy and a small rump and small head. I told her that puppy has worms and if not treated it would die. I then have her some de and told her to put some in every feeding. She txt me the next day grossed out, saying that worms were POURING out of them all. So I am a firm believer in this stuff for sure. I believe it saved those puppies lives and I truly believe it's a gift from God....

interesting story thanks for this, Tamera. Ruminants have a very different gut anatomy to monograstric animals. Couldn't comment on monograstrics.

My question is how? I have read that it only cuts up bugs when dry...it's totally wet inside us. Plus, it's supposed to be safe for earth worms. Only kills parasites w exoskeletons.

Thank you for sharing Tamara, and it will certainly help their collagen. I bought some for my puppy after listening to an holistic vet from Canada, Dr Jones. So I won't only be giving it to my 7 month old puppy, I will also be taking some myself. It's amazing how far it goes, it did the whole flat with one spice jar full, due to a flea that I found on him when we came home from a dog training session. He'd been clear up to that point. Dr Jones also recommends putting some on their coat and then washing off the next day.

Pine needles, black walnuts , dandelions, etc. They tell us to stay out of the sun, when thats the best way to get vitamin.D . They never tell you to walk outside in your bare feet(grounding). They want to make $$ prescribing meds that just masks effects, instead of curing! SO people, dont believe everything the "experts" tell us on TV! 2020 should be an eye opener for you, IF you have common sense, and some critical thought processing abilities..

In Russia it’s a normal thing, you buy a cup yourself and bring sample to hospital. Then they send you results done. Im surprised there is no culture of this in the USA

It is proven effective in fleas and ants and roaches bed bugs etc, but oddly enough pest control dont reccommend it, and the vets dont reccommend it for fleas either?

I love your attitude! KZfaq is full of speculators that have a conviction that is uninformed. You seem to be objective, pragmatic and very wise in your approach to researching and forming your own opinion. Are there any doctors or naturopaths that you would recommend on KZfaq? Since we use DE in our chicken's food, we never had to buy any more dewormer. And internal parasites been a reoccurring issue before. De wormer sorted it for a short while only. DE sorted it altogether.

Well one thing no mention was made of is whether the animal were continually exposed to the parasite source. DE might help the best when there is no further exposure to the parasite source. I have experienced it as an amazing remedy for bed bugs, ants, etc, when laid on areas these pests would have to go through to get to me or my house, but re my dog, she gets it orally in her food and has never gotten the dreaded hookworm, or any other worms. But I am also careful to keep her away from places like dog parks where hookworm/other worms is/are rife.

Test food grade on yourself I watched a detailed video of what it did inside the body n hair skin nails ..it works I bought it years ago food grade organic about £10.00 a kilo ..it comes like talc so you get alot of it ..I'd use food grade on your pets too ..coz u can buy none food grade for animals ..Good fix for acid indigestion too few of us do it when needed n drink 2 teaspoons a day in water or juice ..also alchalines body n pulls metals out ..loads of ++++

I was putting it my puppies water, now I am thinking it should go in his food. In August 2021 the lab found one egg of Fox Lungworm in his stools, due to him being ill, I took him to the vet for medication and he got better very quickly. In January, 2022, I wasn't giving him DE daily and he caught "Giardia", again I began putting DE in his water, and I also took him to vet. Again, he recovered quickly. When he caught Giardia, he was given a pro-biotic, anti-biotic and then Panacur. Has I understand it, Panacur is the least harmful medication for a dog. I don't give him a monthly dewormer, I prefer to treat him immediately, if and when we have our three monthly lab checks or he shows any signs of being ill. DE can't do any harm, so I will start giving it to him daily again.

What a weird study result, the eggs count had no difference but slowed larve development into maturity, would that mean it increased virility in the mature worms to make up for the worms that struggled to develop?

I feel DE works better long term as preventative, and slowly kills off stuff as a daily measure rather than a big cleanse.

Eric, jic you haven't yet, I'm in the deep south & in 2022 for the first time in my life I tried turpentine/ sugar & 🤯!! I hadn't heard of DE til recently & I'm 8 days on it, I take mine by mixing it with little water on a X-large spoon & stir w a toothpick & I also drink a little ACV water & 1 activated charcoal with it. Nyhoo, gettin back, the trupentine sugar solution is 🤯 not to be vulgar but the 1st time looked JUST LIKE a toxic chemical explosion in the toilet 💯 not to mention the worms 😩😫 This time though, ive been doing FGDE & Turpentine/Sugar together (4days only on Turpentine Sugar tho) I'm literally freaking out just this am at whats OBVIOUSLY been in my body all these years 😩😫🙈 I can't convince anyone that i know to even TRY it🤷🏼‍♀️🙍🏼‍♀️ I HIGHLY recommend the turpentine sugar as well as the FGDE💯❤️

By "die off" symptoms, do you mean worms dying? I couldnt comment, as not a human doctor, and not sure what you mean by "feel like crap". I'd suggest running that by a doctor. My thoughts from what I know as a vet is that this stuff adds bulk, so could possibly make an animal feel uncomfortable that way. Thats one of the theories behind why some studies look like less worm eggs per gram, becuase there's just physically more bulk from the DE. The other consideration is that these particles are abrassive, thats how they kill external parasites and how they cause respiratry damage. I dont know that anyone knows if it can cause abrassive damage to the gut lining, but that's another thought.

@@SeztheVet Dang I’m sorry if didn’t see you’re reply till now .. idk why YT does this -_- So yea I’ve been doing more research on the subject. It turns out there’s a high probability that what I was experiencing was die off symptoms from killing parasites and candida too quickly. When they’re killed, they release all their toxins. When they’re killed too rapidly, the body gets overwhelmed by the toxins, creating die off symptoms. Ever since I added DE to my candida protocol, I experienced some intense die off. This is probably because the DE literally scrapes the candida and other pathogens off the gut wall. I also add 15 drops of 2% Lugol’s iodine to my concoction which also kills them. So the DE loosens them and the iodine killed them , making a literal parasitical murder scene in my system lol I felt like absolute crap when taking this stuff but all of the symptoms have subsided now. I feel good. I’ve lost an additional 20lbs. I was stuck on this weight loss plateau that I was unable to break for 2 years until now. 😃

Have you had any personal insight into the product Bioworma? It's expensive and I am considering trialling it over a lengthy period of time. The sheep are pets so I can justify the cost. Is it just plain DE like what you've discussed in this video or is there something else to it? After watching this video my confidence in it working is down a little. My bottle lambs and freshly weaned are kept in smaller paddocks where paddock rotation isn't possible. So my idea behind using it was for these individuals so the larvae dies on the paddock. The adult sheep on larger rotated paddocks have good FECs and don't need it.

Oh it's very different to DE! Bioworma is a very cool technology. It contains a fungus called Duddingtonia flagrans, which passes out in the faeces. It then attacks and eats any parastie larvae in the dung patch on the pasture! Good on you for thinking outside the box, especially if you can't rest the pasture things could get gnarly. It's not going to be a perfect fix, as it's only doing any work on the larvae in the dung pile directly next to it. It wont decrease the total amount already on the pasture, except for over a long period of time (which I understand you're intending). But as a tool in the toolbox would be great. Still certainly monitor closely with FECs and drench strategically when needed. But don't feel disheartened by the DE episode! THey're ery different. My take home with the DE isnt' so much that it doesn't work, either, but more than if using it it needs to be closely monitored and not expect miracles. But could be anothe long term tool in your tool box. :) Well done looking in to these thigns.

I sprinkled a thick row of DE all along outside facing doors,and along the window sills . The windows were horrible, new owners knew they needed to totally replace all windows. There were large gaps at the bottom of every window. I put DE and also tried to stuff crumbled aluminum foil to fill some of the gaps. I also sprinkled some DE at the back if each kitchen cabinet. Abd put a bunch of bay leaves in cabinets. I had seem a couple roaches. I freaked obviously lol it all worked. But fir extra measure, I paid for an exterminator ,too. All riaches gone, spiders too

My vet reccomended a heartworm vaccine. I told her I would prefer to use FGDE (food grade de) to treat for HW (heart worms) and she promptly said that would work. Not much research is done on the topic. Anything absorbed into the stomach gets absorbed into the blood stream. What are your thoughts and can you provide any links or studies to support your answer? Thanks

Nooooo I just wrote a massive answer an accidently deleted it *sigh*. Jolee it basically said that while I try not to claim 100% confidence in anything, as science is always evolving as we learn more, and I'm not queen of the world, I can say I would be pretty confident that DE woudl do absolutely nothing against HW. DE is a mechanical death; it kills by physically acting on the exoskeleton of parasites, causing them to dry out to death. Which is why its effect on external parasites is pretty well accepted (as are the risks). But working on worms inside the gut is much more iffy. In the video here I talk about how there are SOME studies in ruminants that suggest it might be having some effect on the larvae in the dung pile on the pasture, as opposed to anything inside the animal. But even then, thats with gut worms! Heart worm doesnt go anywhere near the gut at any point in its lifecycle. DE is not a toxin to be absorbed- in fact Silica, which is what makes up 70-90% of DE composition is not bioavailable and acutally not absorbed. There are some minerals in DE as well, which are absorbed, but they're not toxins. I assume there was a typo there and you ment your vet quickly said it woudl not work? This is why. Sorry :( I would highly recommend following their advice, be that vaccination or other. Full disclaimer my area of passion is ruminants, swine and poultry, and Heart Worm is actually exotic to New Zealand, but there's my 2 cents. You're right, no research looking at this for heartworm (so nothing to link for you). And I would be very suprised if there was any done in the future just becuase the DE and the heartworm as so far apart; I can't imagine anyone is suspecting it would do anything. Sorry!

Diatomaceous earth is basically sand it stays in the gastrointestinal tract. The heat worms in dogs are in the heart.

How are so many people commenting their encouraging use of DE and at the same time applauding this video?? This video is by no means leaving anyone with the idea that this stuff works and is safe and is encouraged at all. Literally, I would find alternatives for anything de claims to do after watching this video.

Great video - we need to get the message out about DE and associated risks. We need to see the same research needed to register any drench i.e. total worm counts. It maybe that DE just makes the worms in the gut a bit off color and so not laying as many eggs. Also need to know the species of worms affected and not affected. A video on the American Association of Small Ruminant Practitioners website also mentioned a case of silica urinary calculi in a goat fed high levels of DE .

Hi Sarah, My issue with DE is that people use it for mites/lice and external parasites on the coat of the animal, in my case goats. I find that when it is used - and I have tried this myself based on people's suggestions in the early days - that it caused eye irritations and nasal discharge issues including sneezing and coughing for my goat Masport and Wild Beanie. I agree that more research needs to be done, but also that people need to be very careful where they apply such topical powders. Common sense would suggest that if the process is that DE cuts/pierces the exoskeleton of the parasite/bug concerned then of course if it got into the soft membranes of the goats eyes or up their nostrils that there would be an adverse effect. Goats rub their coats with their mouth and faces and end up inhaling the loose DE powder directly off their coats or if they, use their horns to scratch or do a body shake this can result in a dustcloud which they breathe in or can end up in their eyes too. :-)

Hi, thanks for the comment. Yes I have the very same issue. And it's a totally founded concern. There has been research done in to the many health issues for the human miners of DE, and what you've desribed is absolutely the case. Predominantly lung damage is what's most commonly documented in veterinary medicine, but yes, it's all there. If people are using it in hen coops I always recommend rotating it out of use while being treated, but it's also really common to add to dust baths for birds to keep mites away. So yes, does concern me too. Interesting that you've experienced it first hand.

None noted at this stage within the gastrointestinal tract (although I'm sure if you gave enough you could run into issues), other than the sharp microscopic fragments being abrasive to the mucous membranes of the eyes, nose and respiratory tract. So when an animal has thier head in a feed bin, eating food with DE added, that they develop irritated conjunctiva, upper and lower respiratory tract irritation. The humans than mine DE have very light levels of lung damage and pulmonary cancer.

Well, I have two large outside dogs. They love to catch and eat wild rabbits at night. I gave DE consistently and they still got worms. So it did not work for my dogs. I still give it and use it myself even for the other benefits but it certainly does not keep my two outside dogs worm free. I wanted it to work because I hate giving anything that isn't natural

The sheep probably do not have a good diet so I think if they cannot hold onto the DE long enough there is not enough exposure to the eggs.

I can't comment, I'm afraid. And I wouldn't dare haha. This episode is entirely on ruminant species, which have a very specific gut anatomy, and very different to that of humans, cats or dogs. Can't help there!

I have heard stories like this. I honestly can't comment on cats or dogs, or humans for that matter. This episode is entirely on ruminants (sheep, cattle, goats, camelids) which is are of knoweldge. Their stomach anatomy is very very different. I thought I explained that in the video quite thoroughly a number of times, but i get a few comments like this so will pin a comment at the top to clarify.

Never trust them? That’s a bit absurd. With anything, take the information with a grain of salt. Then when you’ve heard enough from all sides, ask God for discernment on it. Then, go with what God tells you, or go with something else if God is silent. Having the Holy Spirit that Jesus Christ may mediate between you and the Father is of necessity.
