Taking a look at a demo for a game called Dice Captain today.
This one has a really good premise. Somewhat like Slay the Spire but with dice rolling instead of cards. And it's all set in a pirate world, which is always fun.
Unfortunately, this one didn't work that well for me. I play a lot of board games so I'm no stranger to dice and the luck element that comes with them. But the best dice games allow you to mitigate the odds a bit or refine dice rolls... or really just let you participate more actively. This one felt like a lot of rolling and accepting whatever outcome you got.
I liked that you could upgrade the sides of the dice your crew had. That was a really nice touch. And some of the upgrade options made things a little more interesting. But then once you got into a fight, it all regressed back to rolling and watching.
