I agree with you Guy's Dice City is just way better then Machi Koro. Alway's something to do in your turn, while with machi koro you might have 3 - 4 turns that you roll badly and you get nothing and other ppl still benefit from your roll. With Dice City you can even use up a dice to move an other dice to an adjacent spot so you just pull off a combo or so. Or passing with one dice to get a joker that you can turn in later if you have 2 of them.I had MK and all of it's expansions and i have got rid of it.

Another alternative to Machi Koro is Valeria: Card Kingdoms, which is the "monty haul semi-carebear" variant where you always gain something on everyone's turn, just more on your own, and the aggressive cards are few (a couple of the characters and a couple of the domains).

I can see why this is recommended over MK, but the weak interaction and shaky theme seem to leave Dice City with an overall weak "Recommends" verdict. I hope the next dice-and-cards-economy-builder-game-thing finally nails the concept.

IMO Valeria: Card kingdoms is better than both of those. Seem a bit dry compared to Valeria.

I like that he addressed the Machi Koro comparison. But, does that mean SU&SD still recommends MK?

Well, I may not be affiliated with SU&SD but I've heard the new Mortal Kombat is pretty good, if a bit heavy on the yuck-factor... Jokes aside, I think Machi Koro is still a fine game, and the basic mechanic of rolling dice and see what your machine spits out is just very satisfying. There are definitely flaws, though, and one of them that City doesn't share is that you have the possibility to roll and not trigger any of your buildings, you can get multiple turns in which nothing of value happens to you because you're just waiting for a 5-6 result to launch your mega combo. In this, there are more dice, and you always at least hit one slot per row, so you always at least get some sort of payout. But yeah, don't feel like this game's existence should prevent you from playing or owning MK, there's still a good chance that you're gonna try it and have a fun time :)

But... I already have Machi Koro! Do I still buy Dice City? We did get a bit tired of Machi Koro even with the expansions... but is it still worth buying Dice City anyway?

Machi Koro is a bit more competitive, but I love playing them both. Maybe you can try it somewhere? I haven't tried the expansion for Dice City.

I would rather a dice pool and take it in turns to grab resources and of course there is only one board. It would be More interacting with other players.

I know nothing about the guys from Shut Up and Sit Down But I always assumed they all lived in the UK. Then Paul sneaks out because he’s been caught with an expansion and there’s an American parking lot with American trucks and cars you wouldn’t necessarily find in the UK. Maybe I’m wrong but it looks like a parking lot at an apartment complex in the US. I always imagined them in cold, dreary England, which I’ve visited and love but it can be cold and dreary.
