This woman never got her real props one of the baddest R&B singers ever
@tonygrooove6 жыл бұрын
I think she was the only white R&B singer to be accepted by the Blacks totally. Not Elton, not Hall and Oates, not Timberlake...etc.
@hiawathasmalls39266 жыл бұрын
tonygrooove Unlike those artists who recorded one or two song that crossed over, she was strictly R&B.

+Walid Aladssani - You must be tone deaf if you think she was just "ok". She was immensely talented.
@eggnog90906 жыл бұрын
+Walid Aladssani - Chaka Khan used to sound good when she was younger, but she let drug addiction ruin her career. Her voice sounds terrible these days and she always looks/acts like she's high on something on stage. It's really sad to see so many talented artists let their careers/lives be taken over by addictions.

Teena actually is real sweet. I meet her 3xs she let all her fans form a line and one by one we all went on her tour bus she signed pictures, cd's etc. Not too many singers do that. And this is when Lovergirl was a huge hit.. She was so down to earth and nice. Her daughter was there one time she was only 3 yrs old. Damn I miss her so much!! Thank you for sharing your gift Teena! RIP!!!

Why is everyone saying she's underrated? There is not a black person alive that doesn't give Teena props. She was on Soul Train like six times. She's a well respect women, especially in the black community.
@paulmorrison6885 жыл бұрын
I think because Teena wasn't really known in the pop world. Plus truthfully her label Motown didn't market/promote her at all. If a major label don't commit to market you it's pretty much up to the artist to do it. Motown focused more on Rick James. Motown screwed Teena big time.. May Lady T RIP...
@MzRedRena10 ай бұрын
I think they meant underrated as far as not being as big as Janet, Madonna, Whitney in the ‘80’s and ‘90’s. She certainly had the chops. I’m thinking a lot might have been unwillingness to jump through the industry hoops.

Oh yeah, I worked as a stagehand on that tour. Prince wasn’t well known at the time and was opening for Rick, and it soon turned into a history making funk war because Prince’s performances were getting more hype from the crowd than Rick’s. Halfway through the tour the arenas we were playing started getting packed before the openers came out which was very rare, but people were coming to see Prince as much or even more than they were coming to see Rick. Prince had the crowd going more than Rick could. Then Prince went so far as to start snubbing Rick on the way back to the dressing room coming off stage. That was basically adding insult to injury, but these were two greats competing, so what you gonna do, just step back and take it in. It got bitter, not so much with Prince, as he was winning the funk battle and had nothing to lose anyway, he was the opener. Rick I don’t think ever said a nice word about Prince after that. He was pretty bitter whenever someone would even mention Prince's name. It was pretty obvious Prince outdid him…a headliner’s most embarrassing moment-getting outperformed by your opener.
