If you happen to know the TV series #GilmoreGirls where the whole town of Stars Hollow helps in the seasonal festivities, well this Dickens Festival is a bit like that. Everyone in Deventer knows someone who volunteers as an actor, costume maker, set designer etc, or is one themselves. The festival is free: part of the city of Deventer is decorated and filled with Christmas stalls, theatre groups; all the store staff is in costume as well. And the festival is free. And this year in particular it was very busy, as it was the first time since the pandemic that it was organized again.
