I install a Dickinson Newport P9000 propane heater into my 2017 Ram Promaster then run some tests to see if it performs well.

I would love to see a tour of your van. I am just now figuring out how to put my cabinetry around my heater.

They should make one out of cast iron and integrate one of those heat driven fan.

Thank you. I'm still using the: DynaGlo Grab N Go 10,000 BTU Propane Portable Heater. I have a plan to vent it similar to yours. I'm on a strict budget and can't afford the heater you have. Thanks again for the update 👍

You’re welcome and yes, getting some venting in there would be a good safety measure to take!

Same experience.. I installed the P12000 in a 27 ft mostly uninsulated boat and while astheticially pleasing it fails to perform as a primary heating unit if Temps drop below the high 40s F.

I think if you could route the chimney along a diagonal so that it radiates heat into the cabin for a longer distance that would help. Or design a better air intake system.
@adriennef1770
@adriennef1770 11 ай бұрын
@@aspenvan3905 yes, if chimney radiates it helps a lot.. If they could some how capture/use the hot air that goes up the chimney that would improve things greatly.

I hear using a stronger fan to circulate the heat helps, also.

Nice video. Is that a seperate black piece that the bolts are going through the ceiling on the inside?
@aspenvan3905

Yes it is. I had them make me a top and bottom piece so that the cap would be really secure. I was worried about flexing (and tearing) of the sheet metal from heating/cooling and driving 70 mph. So far it’s been great! I put more self leveling sealant on every spring around the bolts and where it meets the top of the van.

CONS: I have had 2 in 2 differant vans, no matter what anyone says they do leak carbonmoxide , the pipe were they attatch to the furnace box do not seal , there just sleved on to a smaller welded mounted pipe🎉 and same at roof vent , the stive pipe just slides over the roof bent sleeve ,So! no they dont seal completly and they do leak carbonmonoxide, my testers proved it... also there are holes on thr roof top vent sleeve . the only suscesfull way to plug it all was useing stove doir fyberglass rope , i wraped up tight the top and bottoms with small thin stive doir rope a few times then used 4 inch steel clamps to clamp it all tight... They do pump out plenty of heat for winter in a van , ask me im in 25 below temps... Would i Recomend, honestly no,, there propane and in temps at 25 below your going to be keeping your propane tanks inside or your tank regeulatiors will freeze... So! ... nope , over all i dont recomend,, there too expensive and dangerious to keep running in extream cold.

Great informative video. I'm wondering what your r value is? I'm thinking of buying the p9000 for my cargo trailer conversion. I have a 14x7.5x6.6 foot enclosed trailer with 2 inches of medium density closed cell spray foam in the walls and ceiling, and 3 inches in the floor. No windows just 2 vents that came already installed in the trailer that I've added twist shut offs, and a 6 inch max air fan to exhaust air and bring fresh air in through those 2 other vents. I have been using a 5kw Chinese diesel heater for 5 months and it's over kill I have to shut it off even on high and with the fan exhausting. So my thoughts are that the p9000 would be great as it can be set lower than the diesel heater and is only about 500 BTU less at fully opened up. The diesel heater is also highly unreliable and breaks down weekly. I'm sorry that I'm writing a book here, but maybe you can also answer one last question? For the regulator, are you using any run of the mill bbq regulator hose, or did you purchase the expensive Dickinson one? Thanks.

Hello! The wool I’m using is from Havelock and has an R value of 3.6 per inch. I have two inches in most places so call it R7. I think the P9000 would heat you up nicely, probably also over kill at times as your trailer sounds better insulated and the P9000 doesn’t need additional venting so you can button up the trailer tight when you have too. Using regular old BBQ regulator.

I'm in Door County and often camp in Michigan in my custom Ford Transit. I'm interested in renting your van through the online rental service you're listed on, but I can't figure out how to email you thought that site .... I need passwords and I can't find them .... lol. I'm interested in having that fireplace installed in my Transit. I have shore power, but no heat if I'm not at a campground. I'm looking for a simple reliable heat source that just keeps the inside van above 45°at night. My van is insulated with Havelock wool. I rarely need heat, but once in awhile it would be handy. I was hoping to rent your van for two nights in late Nov or early Dec to try it out. Bonnie

I've had my dickinson p9000 for 3 years now and it will no longer run. I can ignite it, but it no longer runs when the button is released.

Have you looked at propex?? Its not looks like fireplace but supposed to be maximum efficiency use of propane. I think yours waste too much heat in exhaust

He also did an awful job at insulating his van. If he had done that correctly this heater would have performed a lot better.
