Fannie's considering a second motorcycle and rides the all new Royal Enfield Classic 350 to see if it will make the short list.

I am sorry, but she does not get what the Royal Enfield classic 350 is all about its the nearest thing to what pure motorcycling is all about ,having recently purchased a classic 350 in halcyon black and now done just under 300 miles i do not get any of the strange engine moments she had. It takes 300 miles riding under 40mph to run in and first service and then another 1000 miles before it frees up , Trying to compare it with larger capacity bikes and scooters is ridicules after riding a lot of different types of bikes from Harleys to sports and classic the New 350 Classic ticks a lot of boxes for me.

Agree with your comments 100%. Obviously isn't particularly conversant with Royal Enfield singles. The exhaust note on the Classic 350 isn't muted and to make a performance judgment on a bike that's only covered 222 miles is unfair on the bike. Finally it's nothing like a Scooter.!!

Guys …. I agree with you ! I’ve been riding motorcycle since 1977… and My first motorcycle was a Yamaha TT 2 stroke in 1979… in Rio de Janeiro , Brazil. After that I’ve rode a lot of different brands. So I’m 60 and decided to buy a Classic 350 cc …. And have riden 2000 km… It is a pure motorcycle ! Ride safe !!!

It’s their style of riding. Just A hint of underpower they just go down a gear. But most of us try to hear the thump. They are used to new bikes. Some of us like it, some won’t get it.

We indians use RE classic and bullet for touring purpose..in india most of the touring spots are hilly and paths are guttery off roads and hairpin curves...RE has the torque to pull ours and our pillions weight through all the hilly areas without the engine getting tired...Most riders travel from southernmost part of india(kanyakumari) to northern most part of india(kashmir) or ladakh and its a dream journey of almost every rider..RE does that job nearly..its not about speed but the quality of ride , the exhaust note, and the places we see while traveling. We won't get that from going on 100kmph on a yamaha

@ 8:18 into video, Fannie said she thought it was underpowered going up the hill in "1st" gear!!! The speedo reads 40 mph! I seriously doubt she's in 1st gear @ 40!! Normal (recommended)shifting into 2nd gear is normally done around 20 mph, (25 mph after 300 mile break-in period is achieved). I'm guessing she was in 3rd gear, not 1st! (I'm normally shifting into 4th at 40 on straight-aways and maybe winding it up to 45 when going up hills. (I own a 2022 Reborn Classic 350!) Mine has 1500 miles since purchased in May so its not finished breaking in yet but I can't perceive what the revs would sound like in 1st gear going 40! Wouldn't that little engine be screaming? I haven't tested that theory out yet but I wouldn't want to even try it, (since it has good torque in the lower rpm to mid rpm range.) Other than that little tidbit about 40 mph in 1st gear, ... I thoroughly enjoyed the video! Audio and video recording were both superb! Thank You!

You ride an Indian and you're comparing it to a 350 classic? I bet you would feel a LOT more comfortable on the Meteor. I suspect that the engine braking issue is one of the EFI fueling. Trying to resolve the conundrum of high RPMs with low throttle settings.
@PhilipBallGarry
@PhilipBallGarry Жыл бұрын
What Fanny described when descending that hill was probably "hunting" and may have been a combination of factors including the lack of mileage on the bike?. I found short-shifting into a higher gear was useful when descending a hill and reduced the effect of engine braking. Conversely, shutting off completely in a low gear accentuated it. But it's something you adapt to quickly enough. Leaving a little bit of throttle on when changing down also made for very smooth downshifts - instead of blipping the throttle (which wastes fuel). My old R1150RT liked this approach too.

Even though I was only able to do a few laps in a parking lot, I could relate to most of Fannie’s comments. The shortness of the front end was unexpected from photos too. It is a pleasant, fun, refined bike overall - especially in the small displacement marketplace. With the 350 power and muted character It does wind up feeling a bit like a novelty reproduction than a full blooded motorcycle. I got a slight nostalgia flash of my Huffy bicycle from childhood complete with a fake gas tank etc. I grew up on the back of my dad’s R60 and the Huffy was the closest I got to ridding my own (aside from sitting on his while on the center stand in our chilly garage). The Huffy really gave me an extra little thrill yo the extent I was able to not think about all the peddling. The 350 LOOKS like a motorcycle, but Fannie’s “scootery” comment really fit for me. Scooters are fun to ride too, even an electric bicycle I bet can be a sublime joy in the right circumstances, just not what I eagerly want from a motorcycle at this point in my life. The roads I live on currently have two distinct personalities. TOOTLING - which is cruising between 35 and 50 mph pleasantly, and TAKE OFF - in which you must enter these charming country roads with all of their short sight lines and unpredictable oncoming traffic (a 10mph tractor, or a 65mph lifted F250). The new 350 would probably TOOTLE charmingly (if a bit uninspired) but did not convince me it could handle the TAKE OFF part of the job well enough. I’m looking forward to your half of this review as well as Fannie’s continuing exploration. We only get to indulge bike shopping with real intent a limited number of times in our life so it’s definitely to be savored…..even if a part of my brain is Always shopping for a new bike. But to have established permission and expectation to scratch that itch is truly the closest thing to adult Christmas in our lives.

Ummm, that’s what I told her in the video. My Classic 500 “boxes” are stuffed with sh*t also. I thought they were stupid to be included as design elements on the 500, absolutely useless on the 350s. As for the integrated kill switch, all of Fannies bikes have a separate designated kill switch. Not a bad observation in my estimation. As for your analogy of the ejection “cord”, if they put the ejection lever on the joystick (and not beneath the seat), I think it would be cause for questioning.

Windshields belong on cars, not motorcycles. Ride the bike without the windshield, and it will be a much better experience! Also it’s only a 350cc engine with a small bore, so engine braking will be greatly reduced compared to the 500cc classic model.

These bikes need 2000 to 3000 miles to be at their perfect performance. The skipping is probably due to to high speeds with the brand-new machine. I bought one on the spot when I saw at the shop. No regrets at all. Ok, it's not exactly like my 1200 Laverda ( and some other bikes I owned ) behaved;-) But that's part of my decision: the machine is like I thought it would be.

I have 500. And just got a 350. You would be a lot happier without the screen. 500 is a classic. 350 is a retro. 350 would be better on long faster ride! Less tiring due to smoothness. I.m 6ft 4 and very comfy! It will feel small as you are used to big bike. If its for back roads and town it will be excellent. 👍 meteor further forward pegs and bars back. Screens completely change the feel of a bike. Esp a horrendous big un like that. 👍

Great review - very different from all the others, liked the tandem ride conversation - excellent....for city riding ( Sydney much like London ) the 350 is great, the bike loosens up after a while and you can rag it whilst still vibe free...ive owned 2x 500's here and had to sell them because of the vibes through the hands, too hard to deal with in the city, they would be a great 2nd bike in the country as you ( Dick ) are lucky to have ...by the way it looks like that demo is fitted with the low rider seat. Its much more comfortable with the stock or touring seat ( ive got all three) and feels longer ,

The slipping is occurs if you don't get it into gear cleanly. It then jumps into a false neutral then back into gear and keeps on until you select the gear properly. Pre-selecting the next gear will eradicate this completely. Incidentally, I'm 6ft and never felt cramped. Ditch the screen and move the gear shift up one spline and the bike will be so much better to ride. 😊

She keeps comparing to bigger higher cc bikes, this bike is 350cc besides the windscreen and obvious lack of power people have to realize it's a low power around back street and slower traffic situations transport bike not a highway flyer. If you want more power get a bigger bike if you want a putt around it sounds perfect.

You can tell when someone is a little underwhelmed. Nice to see a review that doesn't gush about the bike. 20HP from a 350cc is a bold strategy (or a constraint) from RE, no doubt driven by engine simplicity and the latest emission standards. Rode a 2004 Kawasaki Ninja 250cc yesterday with 30HP,+ that's mad in comparison!

We use cursing to flavour, if you will, the more analytical considerations in our commentary. Cursing has a long and important history in the English language. I find its impact as punctuation marks or highlights, in and amongst the more banal or intellectual comments, effective in delivering our message. I always find it curious when, given our point in history and the volumes of literature and other media that exploits expletives to such a greater degree of severity and success than my own, that someone always finds it necessary to comment on my/our use of language in such a minor and insignificant expression as a KZfaq video about motorcycling in a remote corner of the United Kingdom.
