It is thought that a single pillow killed a Hamas operative in Dubai this January. Yet this astonishing spy story involved 27 secret agents, some pilfered European passports and countless security cameras.
On January the 19th, an unremarkable parade of foreigners passed through Dubai' s cosmopolitan airport, strode from one CCTV camera to another, and then assassinated Palestinian resistance fighter Mahmoud Mabhouh in his hotel room. For Mossad - the Israeli Intelligence agency thought to be behind it all - the operation was a success. Yet the maelstrom of ugly consequences for the agency, Israel, and the hapless citizens whose passport details were used, have left many baffled. "To describe this as anything other than a fiasco, I don 't see how you can do it ," says former CIA agent, Robert Baer; " why would you sacrifice 27 people? "
Israel 's iron-fisted approach is embedded in its history as a state, constantly defending its survival. There is some speculation that Israelis with dual citizenship may even have agreed for their passport details to be used. "The Israelis want to seem to be invulnerable ," says Baer, "you kill us we kill you - we don 't get caught, and there 's no international condemnation ." Whether or not the killers are to be called to account, a death squad has had its cover blown and a legendary spy agency has been all but outed.

I looked up definitions and Merriam-Webster dictionary says: Botched (adj.): unsuccessful because of being poorly done : spoiled by mistakes But the first definition google showed me says a poorly done attempt So I suppose it could be argued either way. I agree in that I wouldn’t call it ‘outfoxed’. I seriously doubt they got back to Israel, turned on the tv, and said ‘oh right! The 200 surveillance cameras! shit.’ They knew most or all agents would be identified and plastered over the news. They either didn’t care or thought it was worth it. Still, idk how much of a dangerous man or risk to Israel this guy really was, but it doesn’t seem like it was worth it. Between the method used in carrying it out, the exposure, the anger over the killing of a Muslim in a fairly westernized Islamic country, and the using of the identity’s of western ally countries as covers. It just doesn’t seem to be as clean or shrewd as their normal ‘work’. And all those agents involved seemed like it would’ve done more harm than good. Everyone practically tripping over each other. I thought they usually used small tight groups for foreign actions. Idk maybe he was that dangerous and this was their only one and only chance.

If a terrorist kills one or more citizens in any given nation, without previous judicial process and not giving their victims the right to appeal their killing, It is a violation of the victim's rights. So the killer must be given the same treatment, no legal protection or rights for the killer, because the killer denied his victim's rights. MI6 stopped doing assassination operations themselves in the 50s although they outsource the work to others. They used to like to use the French who have no qualms about doing such things. It's probably changed especially since the IRA days and the global war on terror but the foreign office doesn't like been involved in such things so uk special forces probably do the heavy lifting. @ They didnt kill him in his sleep, he went out to go shopping around 6pm and came back around 8 and by 830 he was already dead. Shortly after he left , an attempt was made to open his door remotely since they occupied the room across the hall from room 230. When he returned from shopping, there were 4 men already inside waiting for him. They injected him with a paralysing agent and suffocated him to make it look natural since the natural bodily reactions to being suffocated would not take place. The only question i still have is how the hell did they latch the chain after they left the room since the hotel staff the next day said the door was locked and latched from the inside. Makes me wonder about Chris Cornell .

Very amateurish in his security protocol. There are always dark spots for ambush regardless of where you are. Even in the busiest of places. There are dedicated teams that map out your recurring routine from any A to any B, and doing this as full time job for numerous individuals. Once predictable pattern is established for one subject, in this case his trips to Dubai hotel....then info is moved to the planning team The planning team looks at your routine and identifies multiple dark points of potential ambush. 3 as an example: 1) Fake taxi, not chosen due to location security and complexity. 2) Poison him with dart as he walks about, again Dubai extensive security cameras would have raised alarm...maybe in another country. 3) His hotel room: Numerous advantages here, gives agents privacy, time to vacate. Problem, room # is kept private, so all he has to do, considering his profile, was to make sure no one followed him into the elevator. Here is where Mossad shined, they dressed the 2 spotters in tennis clothes with towels in hand, it completely paralyzed his sense of caution.. as opposed to 2 men regularly dressed walking in with him. The planning team then selects operations team, which in turn is composed if smaller teams doing meal piece contributions, including the muscular execution team.

The goal is not to make it impossible as nothing is, bit risky enough to change the calculus of the assassins. Dubai is extremely safe, I have been there number of times, there is very few dark spots where you can commit a crime like this and have plenty of time to vacate the team out of the airport, this played to his complacency. Have he had a professional security team giving him guidance, they would have given him a checklist including the critical step that ensure no one knows your room! No matter how. Wait for empty elevator, push all buttons..

The idea of neutralizing an enemy between two opposing belligerent is as old as human history itself. Whether the reason is jealousy or envy or more so when the existence of the people or state is in grave danger,some means are justified. The only caveat is when innocent people gets destroyed or killed in the process. When one is asked which is more "humane" -blowing up a place where innocent civilians & children get killed or targeted killing involving a specific individual perceived as enemy ,the moral dilemma vanishes even to a normal,guy-next-door type. This is not to justify killing per se but should be understood within the context of existing state belligerency between two " warring "state .
