I would think a Dyno would be more accurate but the more air intakes plus it being cooler air will make a difference as well

Motortrend did a test "2015 Dodge Challenger Scat Pack Dyno Test" and got 434rwhp. If that's true even with 15% drivetrain loss you would be seeing around 510 HP at the crank. I tested the built in HP guage on my Durango Hellcat and the HP peaks at 659 (rated 710hp). All signs point to the 392 just making more power than advertised.

Hellcat redeyes make 643whp and scat packs make 400whp. 400whp for 4000lbs is stupid slow. Also the car will read crank horsepower not wheel

The 392 in LD/LC actually has 525 horsepower after 2018. By reporting 485 they avoid gas guzzler tax.

That makes sense because on paper the 392 charger does 0 to 60 in 4.7 (according to power to weight ratio calculators) but in real life theyre quicker for some reason and I cant think of any other reason that they actually just have more hp.

When it comes to performance numbers, car companies are known to “under report” their performances number for EPA reasons. Depending on the Dyno is used, the performance numbers can be “adjusted.”

My 18 shaker regularly goes above 485 as well especially in cooler weather. Plus the 93 I get helps 👍🏻 side note, the 392 crate engine is rated for 525hp

Yea I have a 2016 Manuel Shaker Bro! I put this mode on & mine went to 525 ounce!! I was like ooh shit! It was a nice summer day kinda cool not so hot hot it was like 77degrees!!! I couldn’t believe it! I was made cuz I wasn’t recording! But yea I def have done it many times over & got randoms like 501-505-509! I never got back up to that high but 100% I saw 525 ounce!!!

Even back when I had my 2015 392 they were showing up with 500+ crank on the dyno. Definitely underrated. And the same with the hellcat. First generation was around 730 crank, not 707.

You are correct, I had my 2020 Scat Pack tuned recently and she is over 485 at the wheel. Non tuned vehicles sit around 430 at the wheels. It doesn’t mean it can’t spike then drop off since the power comes from the crank

Fr bruh I believe the original Dodge Charger R/T from the late 60s to early 70s actually came with 460HP, but Dodge lied and said it was 425 so they could comply with regulations and cheapen insurance rates.

It people that have proof th RT has more than 370 hp it might not be 400 hp but it's more then 370 and I no it more than 370 they said dodge had said it is 370 hp for insurance reasons. I don't know if that part is true either but I do know this part is true I looked it up Dodge had to meet the requirements that Congress had for them that's why they did not make the RT 400 horsepower because it was not going to meet Congress request but the secret is that car does more than 370 horsepower I don't know if it's 400 but I damn sure know it's more than 370

Your elevation, weather, time of day, it all depends. In Cortez CO we are at 6200 feet above sea level. Here getting hellcat 0-60 in less than 4.8 seconds is a huge victory.

I have a few passes at the track with my SRT392. I loaded up my average best ETs into a HP calculator and my result based on weight at time of the pass is 450whp, 500 crank. So IMO, 485-500 is about the range. Only mods I have is lower HC airbox and muffler delete. But I do agree that the 2020+ may have more in the factory tune

I changed the lower airbox and put in a K&N filter. I’ve been seeing consistent 500+ hp 495+ tq. I have a tuner but haven’t got the modified PCM yet so it’s basically stock

I have a 2020 Challenger Scat Pack Widebody. I did a mid-muffler delete & installed an Air Aid cold air intake in it. I did that test and it showed 530HP.

I got a 22 scat pack charger I just picked up a month ago. Took it out earlier today and got up to about 80 mph. I saw 489 right before the shift change. I'm right at 500 miles on the odometer. I'll keep an eye out to see if it goes higher than that.

I own a charger scat widebody and I drove a hellcat slim body charger for the first time today. Honestly, the scat pack is a more enjoyable car. I couldn’t hook in the hellcat at all and just spun like crazy. However, the power of the hellcat is vastly different and more noticeable. Just a talking point to the previous video you made.

I "use" to think the same thing. I had a 17 charger scat. Traded for a 16 challenger cat... the first week I seriously considered trading it in because I couldn't tap into the power without breaking traction. That and almost killing myself a few times. I upgraded to 305s and it's night and day. I don't think I could go back to a scat after experiencing a cat😅 you just have to know the cars limits, but it seriously took me about a month and a half before I got comfortable with the hellcat and wasn't scared. 🙃..... this is coming from a guy that's been driving big v8s for years. The scat is a beast with low end power. I've had my cat for a few years and I still laugh & giggle like a little bitch from time to time. It never gets old

If the chip has had a performance tune from the factory, that can account for the discrepancy. Scatpacs come well tuned but my 2019 still needed an after market performance tune to get over 485hp. It's possible Dodge may have started doing the tune pre-sale.

Horse power can be more or less depending on a lot of different factors. Temperature elevation. Gas humidity. Tire/wheel size. Gear vehicle in. Did you hit a bump in the road. Road dynos aren't that accurate. Just a rough estimate based on preprogrammed setpoint and some variables

That is an estimator, not a dyno, and it's estimating crank horsepower. Notice how it only makes that jump when it shifts? It may have something to do with the calculation it makes to estimate being thrown off due to the small and sudden state of no load ( transmission, rear end, tire rotation....like the clutch pushed in and the engine is spinning freely). Also, the gearing may throw it off. If I'm correct, the dyno is calculated in the gear that is a 1:1 ratio with the engine rpms, and to get a more accurate estimation of true horsepower, you should put it in the gear thats a 1:1 ratio and do a pull in that gear and whatever your highest rpm on the onboard computer says is it's best estimation of your true horses.

Nailed it. It's a estimate not a dyno. Anyway torque is measured not hp. Hp is derived from rpm. Peak hp is at higher rpms.

@ToddSensmeier peak hp is measured in the gear that equals a 1 to 1 ratio which is 4th gear. By the time you stay in fourth to 6k rpm, you're doing 140 plus. From what I've read, they usually dyno these cars in 3rd because that's the gear you're in when you trap in the quarter.

It’s just a digital readout plus maybe under ideal conditions, it can exceed that. Honestly, anything over 300hp feels great to me. Not like you can push it to 180 anyway. I’d rather Dodge underestimate than overestimate. That’s a good assessment that it’s a software error, the power at the crank, OR out of the thousands of power trains that are identical, the numbers somehow vary depending on different factors: oil used, tires, drafting, gas, who knows

@@issavibez394 even on our Worst day, we'll blow the tires off the Infiniti, And take it on resale value. Specially post 11/30/23 as far as Value. People don't understand, Charger/Challenger at the moment is in a Very Well sought-after place in time. Even 100,000 mile cars with the V8's are going to Double in Resale Value overnight! Some even higher. Therefore, these last year models undoubtedly Are investments that for some, could see and become a sort of "Financial Windfall" if you will, for them. And if you do it Right, this can be a great opportunity to better their lives and portfolios to better their odds of their futures. That said, without proper advice from a financial planner, for some, it could be the Opposite if they aren't careful. Proper research prior to selling will absolutely see you sitting better after December 1st 2023. JMO

Majority of cars are "underrated" for Insurance reasons / Manufacturer cost reasons. It's widely known the B58s and other BMW, even Audi Motors, are underrated from the Factory. Not surprised these 6.4L / 392s are the same! Also the Conditions they Dyno these cars don't necessarily encompass a cooler day, where our MOPARS EAT! (telling everyone my car has 521HP)

The rating amount is in 5th gear where they get measure it and it depends on the environment on that given day you measured it vs where and when they measured it based on the da. Now it’s not unheard of to have more power than advertised as its sometimes happens be shitty one’s but a hell of a lot less common. Not every car is equal.

The widebody engine/transmission is tuned differently due to the bigger size tires and more weight.But it's the same damn engine and transmission parts compatible with all 2015+ generation.

Motor Trend a long time ago did a test on the 707hp hellcat and when they dyno it the numbers equated to 757 on the motor to get the numbers they get to the ground

The Apache 6.4 is a 500 horsepower engine but dodge won't say that loud because insurance companies would classify the cars equipped with said engine as sports cars. That was what they did in 2015 with the R/T scatpack. It was literally a 392 disguised as an entry level car so insurance won't rape you as the owner. Furthermore if you look at the output from the crate examples of these engines, they're reaching similar numbers.

My '12 SRT 8 Challenger with a Comp. Stage 2 and Magnaflows is way different. Gotta be on your game when you hit it. At a roll around 30 to 40 mph , it will blow the tires off. Big change. No more MDS BTW.

I did this on my 300C also and it shot to 404 hp when it’s only supposed to have 363… if I’m not mistaken that’s the most hp it produces at a certain rpm… so if u were to dyno tune it u might be able to constantly get that amount of hp… someone correct me if I’m wrong tho

If you look at the live Dyno chart the power peaks at 500hp why would it peak at that number if the car doesn’t have 500hp or more? I think these cars have way more hp then advertised imo

The head mechanic at our dodge dealer in Cortez CO said that number is correct. Those 392 hemis are legit. Cuz my 2017 challenger rt scat pack shaker lays down 502hp.

I would take it to a dyno and see what it makes at the wheel, then you will be able to determine power at the crank fairly accurately

I read a lot of the comments and didn’t see anything about rpm. 485 hp @6100. Maybe when you see over 500hp the rpm is higher and that is why your hitting higher numbers?

Probably because the Air intake temps were 53 degrees, and the car was still cold (165-180 degrees). Try it again when it’s warmer outside, and the numbers will be lower.

Absolutely insurance. Total gross weight should be 10 times the crank S.A.E. not. Gross I believe. It's been done 50 years ago with the 428cj in Mustangs and 396 in Camaros. Seems the 454 was for Chevelle at about 4250 pounds and 425 horsepower. In the Camaro, would had pushed it to almost uninsurable as a race car to insurance companies. So probably over 500, but S.A.E. should be more accurate than old gross standards. Idk. But 485 with that huge 475 flat torque curve is a righteous accomplishment to this old engine builder and hot rodder. Best N/A V-8 package EVER to come out along with the 428SCJ, 426 Hemi, and 429SCJ, and a few other killer big blocks of the 60s. Absolutely the only modern example of those famous Muscle Engines.

The new software was loaded into the scat packs in the late 18 and up if you go on to B Mason's Channel and ask him he'll explain to you what software changes they did make just be ready for a very in-depth explanation on what they did he knows everything there is to know about our cars very cool guy

My guess: amount of tire grip, road surface, quality of fuel. At least those 3 if nothing else.

I’ve seen videos of older stock automatic scats on the dyno doing about 430hp to the wheel but on 6th gear 🥶imo i think we got 485whp

You do know vehicles have governor's on them to restrict speed & all best plus you know when you get your car tuned they can get more horsepower out of it. You should have your cars tuned & dynoed if you into horsepower.

I came from a 2017 Camaro SS rated at 455hp and there is NO WAY the Charger is only 20hp more. I noticed the difference rightway, those numbers on the dash dyno are more realistic compared with what happens with the rear tire when you hit the gas pedal. Suggestion: Make a video showing the chart, there you can visualize the power spikes going above 500.

I think 475 torque helps as well compared to whatever the camaro’s torque is, which I’m sure is lower

hemi 6.4 has a higher torque # compared to the LT 6.2, so that’s why you feel the charger more.

40plus hp difference is a lot I’m gonna go with the software is off lol. Dyno is the only way to find out for sure. My TRX has 800hp on the dash and no TRX has ever dyno 800. I doubt the cars have. The TRX puts like 500 something to the wheels. So yea.. what you’re seeing is likely crank and irrelevant. You want rwhp numbers.

Hey brotha question. I have a 2016 Jeep SRT and the performance pages are in metric readings. So I get Kw not Hp. Do you know how to change that. Normal setting are set to standard. Help!!!

Change it on the wheel screen display. On the mph/Kw page, it's an option.

It's just that dodge as different tunes for the the SRTLine depending on your models

No they don't lol. There is zero evidence of that. Earlier SRT models came with Big Brembos, Adaptive Dampers, wider wheels, etc. When they dropped the SRT naming scheme, you could still order the exact same car with the same options, minus the full leather seats. Other than that....same exact drivetrain.

Tuning from 16 on may have changed slightly. The OBD II days actually started in 1966, 1976,1986,1996,2006 and 2016. Rules always kill it for a few years until the tech catches up. I agree. Something is up. My 15 SRT 392 seems more powerful than the later Scats I've driven. Like in torque throughout the range, or average horsepower calculation.
