If Steve Played with the sissy rules today where you can even sneeze at the QB.. could you imagine. He had to leave prematurely because all the brutal hits he took. He never slid when running. He used to go head up against line backers. But if one player was to play with today's rules that would have Tom chasing after it would be Joe Montana. Without that injury Steve Young doesn't get his chance yet and Joe plays for the Niners probably passes 94 and winning at least 4 more Rings

Also gotta understand that the offense with brock purdy is the best it has looked all year. Jimbo didn’t take the shots downfield that brock does. He also has insane elusiveness in the pocket where jimbo usually throws the ball up in the air for grabs

"The Force" escaped every team at least six times (six rounds of the draft). Intangibles. Arguably Tom Brady has the Force as well but didn't play nearly as much at Michigan to show it as Purdy.

I remember when the 49ers had Joe Montana, Steve Young, and Steve Bono. All were effective. Even Elvis Grbac played well. Those Eddie D, Bill Walsh, George Siefert teams were awesome. That was before free agency really took off though, so this Kyle Shanahan run might be equally amazing in context. Especially if you add in the Jim Harbaugh era to the Kyle Shanahan years. I'm glad the Yorks stepped back a bit and let their coaches and GMs run the show with less interference.

@@houseofchinn6112 I agree somewhat, Kaep didn’t read defenses quick enough and lacked Brock’s twitch speed. But he was definitely a duel threat QB. If he had played in the offensive scheme that Kyle brought, we probably could have had multiple SB wins. Just saying! Go Niners

PURDY has definitely has the "FORCE" Jedi mindset which is unbelievable. He just has it. Steve Young was never this good as a rookie. He keeps running out of pockets when he didn't have bail out. Steve Young drove me crazy at times! This kid just know how to play QB.

I remember the 92 NFL Title game. I was positive the 49ers were going to win, and then Alvin Harper made that iconic catch over Eric Davis, and I knew. The Cowboys were different, it was going to take something different to beat them.

Some people don’t realize Steve Young was the third in line back in the day, behind Bono (a shadow aside Montana) and he was no rookie. He was drafted by TB when the team was zero in the league. In fact, there were some years in between when he got first in line for the 49ers. So, let’s not take SY words slightly even if you dislike SWs references.

Steve Young played RB for one season in the USFL. Purdy’s got mobility, but Montana was at least as mobile. Young was a completely different animal running with the ball.

Purdy fits 49ers system perfectly. Would he fit other teams system? Might not. Shanahan is making the plays for teams weapons that they have. Deebo. DmcCaf etc. Their is a team sport saying: Defenses will win you the game. Offenses by how many points. Brady might have transferred the shoulder chip to Purdy.

Kyle Shanahan would probably punch you if you called the Shanahan Offense the West Coast Offense. But Mike Shanahan developed the passing game of the offense in San Francisco with Steve Young as his QB. There is a symbiotic relationship between the development of an offense and the skill set of the QB. Mike Shanahan's offense developed around the skill set of Steve Young. Brock Purdy is a Steve Young type QB as such he is the perfect QB to run the Shanahan offense.
