the amazing thing about the beginning is, Sinatra was very critical of the Beatles for a long time. To have him praising George's song like that shows their rrange as musicians

I don't know about that. To hear Donovan tell it, he was single-handedly responsible for everything the Beatles did. Okay, that's an exaggeration, but a few years ago, in long interview with Howard Stern, Donovan made all sorta claims about how much he taught them. A lot of it sounded like baloney to me; some of it was downright outrageous.

Donovan not only taught the Beatles how to play their instruments he also wrote all their songs. Bernard Purdie told me.

The story is that Lennon asked Donavan to teach him how he fingerpicked the guitar, and that he complied. Paul was watching the lesson and started using something like it in his music. "Blackbird," I believe. He also suggested a chord progression that neither Lennon or McCartney ever used, but which was used by Harrison in "Something." Needless to say, chords are a big part of writing a song, but not the only part.

@@Kermit_T_Frog Paul's technique is nothing like what Donovan showed John and Blackbird has zero Donovan influence. That goes for "Something" as well, it has zero Donovan influence. Where do you get these weird ideas?

To the guy with the name netter style Who hated something And suggest people not get on the bandwagon just because your friends are I would suggest to him to not jump off the bandwagon just because so many people are on it and you wanna feel like you're oh so different and also smarter and all that nonsense It's a great song if you didn't like it in fact if you hate it means you got some serious aesthetic awareness problem buddy

Totally agree - but I hate the song as a finished piece nevertheless. Just never hit the spot with me. Which only goes to show what a wonderful and mysterious thing music is - and I wouldn't have it any other way. Only two songs that Harrison sang on with The Beatles (off the top of my head) that I love: Here Comes the Sun, and I'm Happy Just to Dance With You (which McCartney hates). Tip: Don't like ANY music for any other reason other than YOU like it. If you don't follow this rule, then you're cheating and betraying yourself. Don't jump on any bandwagon just because all your friends have. Your ears are the _only_ ones that matter.

You hate the song as a finished piece that's totally crazy 🤪 would you like it better unfinished 😮and to use the word hate pretty harsh thing to say about one of the greatest love songs in the twentieth century, get some hearing aids and go get evaluated by a shrink 😮you definitely have a problem and by the way what songs have you written to judge Something as a song never heard of you and never want to hear your comments again you haven't a clue 😅 😊 pud
