Not my usual type of content however Enslaved: Odyssey to the west is one of those games that I will never forget. It’s a very fun, simple and good game however that is not the focus in this video. I want to talk about the ending which is probably one of the most intriguing endings I have seen in the last decade and will haunt my mind for the rest of my life. But in a good way.
It took me awhile to finally get this game of the shelf and I honestly wish I did sooner. The game simple and a lot of fun and to top it off the ending is incredibly fascinating.

Extremely underrated game, slightly ahead of its time. A remaster or even remake would do it justice.

considering you see old signs that advertise Pyramid, it's safe to assume it was some corporate enterprise created half-way into the war, it probably had good intentions but as the war progressed the corporation either became more desprate for resources or just plain greedy and power hungry and started raiding all possible places for more stuff to maintain the Pyramid and more victims to keep the Pyramid simulation alive. so yeah, it definetly should have been destoryed. but it wasn't meant to be this evil
@GreiratEinzel
@GreiratEinzel 2 жыл бұрын
If it was meant for evil or not is hard to determine imo. Look at something like the Fallout vaults, they are portrayed and advertised as good and well meant things while in fact they are terrible underground labs to experiment on humans in all sorts of ways. And just like in enslaved their test subjects are not aware of this fact. Personally I suspect that Pyramid was a creation to "save" so to say mankind as destruction seemed inevitable. Though with your pov it would create a cool narrative that Pyramid actually was a project for good yet turned evil. it would make it only more tragic yet more justified to destroy it.

I've meet this game in 2013 or something, through a PS3 demo. Ever since I've wondered about what was gonna happen in the story. Now, 2024, I finally remembered that memory, got the game and played it for a week. Now it's finished and I'm still hungry for more 😅

the common theme of this game is "moral ambiguity". this is tied to EVERYONE in this story (except Pigsy. He's just inexcusable... untill he did a 180 and sacrificed himself, showing that he díd actually have a caring side and making me question his motives). And I like how the ending perfectly portrays this. This game DEFINATELY is a very good one on the story side.

I just recently restarted Enslaved, when I found out it was backwards compatible on the Xbox One. And I'm not sure if it was a good or a bad idea because I forgot how much I loved the game and the story and now I just want to hear other people's opinions on the game. Which led me to your video and I greatly enjoyed it! You did a great job!

@@GreiratEinzel It is! Apparently, it was one of the final games to be made backwards compatible. I kept my physical copy for so long because I loved it so much and couldn't bring myself to sell it or let it go. In my replay, I've just reached the outer gates of Trip's community. I'm just like "I'm not ready for the emotions!" lol.

I feel like the ideal outcome would have been that Trip/Monkey and Pyramid came to an agreement to let people choose for themselves if they want to continue living on in the destructed, dangerous wasteland, or live in Pyramid's idealistic simulation. And notice how Pyramid said "see what they have, before you take it away". This indicates one of two options. Either Pyramid knew what was gonna happen, or Pyramid was trying to trick them into being captured into the simulation. If it's the first option, chances are quite high that Pyramid would have stopped enslaving and let people choose for themselves, as this would be the only outcome where he could keep 'saving people'. If he was trying to trick them, however, there would be no chance he would agree and keep the agreement. But in the end... Do I think Trip did the right thing? I'd actually side with "no" on this one. First off, Pyramid said "people are bringing their kids to school". This means there would be kids in the simulation. But if you look at all the enslaved people; all of them are adults. meaning these kids are not real and only simulated. So breaking the simulation would result in possibly hundreds if not thousands of people effectively loosing their children thye bonded with, possibly sending them down a depression spiral. It's also fair to believe that most of these people were captured quite young, meaning they never learned to actually survive. So setting them 'free', will most likely doom a big amount of them to die in the wasteland. And everyone on the older side is probably too old to still survive in the wasteland, needing to rely on the younger ones (who, as just stated) will be unable to survive either. Sure, they got controll over their real lifes back... but is that really worth it, if it means most of them will be quick to perish or be doomed in one way or another? Not to mention the fact that she didn't know how exactly they were connected to Pyramid. What if it was the same as with her and Monkey? She dies, he dies. What if they were connected in the same way? Pyramid dies, they die? There was no way for Trip to know it was safe to kill Pyramid. She had no way of knowing if it would actually save and free the people, or would result in a direct kill on all of them. She basically took a MASSIVE risk for the sake of vangeance. So I'd say no, Trip did not do the right thing. It might have ended up fine in the end, but she took a HUUUUUGE risk with a high probability of death or failure, knowing that these people were happy in the current state and not knowing what the consequences would be.

I guess it's hard to answer the question because there is so little information there is about "The War" the game keeps pointing to. - What were the events that led to the war? - Where did the robots come from? - What happened after the war? - What happened after Pyramid died? - How did Pyramid come to be? Usually, after a cliffhanger like this, people would've loved a continuation of the story and perhaps a new cliffhanger. And this answer alone would've sold Bandai Namco several copies of the new game.

I think she made the correct decision at the end. These people weren't given a choice and were forced to live in this alternate world. If given the choice and they chose to live there then leave them alone.

What an irony! Trip who came to the idea of enslaving Monkey herself, she did not agree with Pyramid that did the same to the rest of the world. All can make bad decision in life, but enslave somebody's will to make your own way better it is not forgettable in any way. In a way she somehow restored her sins back destroying Pyramid but not fully. Monkey is the only hero here!

To be fair this is sorta like fallout 4 science squad guys. Takes place in a wasteland and say there doing good but the difference is pyramid gives them a false life but also killed a bunch of people like ya can just ask people. Same goes in fallout but way more dumb like saying society hasn’t changed over 100 years yet they actively destroy society except pyramid is a flawed robot man thing and fallout is a group of the smartest people in the world who discovered teleports and made robots that have real dreams and feelings

I love this game and this discussion about it!😍❤ It's not really something new but a little different. It's similar to the Matrix or endless tsukuyomi from Naruto. I think it comes down to 🤔1. why they came up with this (was it real enslavery or did the ppl chose this themselves? What where everyone's intentions? Was humanity forced through an economical breakdown? etc.), 🤔 2. what was going on in that machine (was it a life without problems where you couldn't act out our free will or was it just the same?) and 🤔 3. story of the Chinese farmer To 1. In the end it might not matter that much why they did it and more what the situation is now, but still see conclusion. To 2. if they don't have free will and everything's perfect then that's a real problem im, bc they can never do progress in any way. Much like Adam and Eve in the garden of Eden. But if it's actually the same I'd say, what's the difference? They probably won't live forever hooked up to the machine anyways and just lived their life. To 3. So would I say that she did the right choice? It's so difficult. Definitely not no. If they actually were enslaved against their free will AND they have no free agency then mos def YES! Though she doesn't know that. 😤There's still a possibility that she did it out of revenge or bc her trauma. And if they chose to get in there themselves and live a normal life, then it really doesn't matter if they're in real life or virtual. 🤷🏻I think it would tell from the reaction of the ppl. 🔥In the end, aren't we close to that future as well with our VR, Metaverses etc? ANYWAYS I'd love to have a prequel and / or sequel of that franchise and thanks for that discussion! 😍🙏🏻

While I enjoyed the game, the ending just didn't do it for me. Pretty much nothing in the ending justified anything for what or why the world is continuing the way it is. If you got resources to build a darn pyramid you might as well build farms, shelters, tools and let the man's memories be a "book" with insight from the time before - but no we got this, and it's dumb. Because with all those people still need to be fed, kept alive etc etc. The attempted simulation theory was better executed in MGS2.
