My first tank in college was a 10 gallon nano cube, I had one of these pop up and had no idea it was a parasite😂 I legit would drop sinking food in for it and watch it eat in awe

Looks way better but yeah, the Aptasia on the top that started this whole mess is the one that worries me the most. Like, when you blasted it with that white stuff it just started to reproduce. I am so not sorry and feel incredibly guilty.

Peppermint shrimp worked so well. After vacation, they were all gone. Only works well if you dont feed them much

Well done on getting rid of it! Just a heads up in your betta fish video you put an otocinclus catfish in the tank with the betta. Otocinclus absolutely HAVE to be in groups of 3 or more minimum, so please get him a minimum of 2 friends!

idk if it would be better to get a new pump and put the older one into the tank, to clean it up without worrying about them getting caught in it??? meanwhile you can add a screen to section off the top area where your new pump would be located... but you'd have to keep an eye on it to see if the parasite relocates to the new pump, since small bits of that parasite could potentially get through a screen,... baby slugs may be able to as well considering their size but there is inherent risk in all aspects here... heck idk if you can submerge the pump assembly of the old unit fully. thou after a time you should be able to remove the old one, refurbish it and have a spare or replace the new one to use it as the spare when the refurbished one finally dies. peace.

I think that's incredible how those tiny little slugs were able to consume all that pesty coral stuff WOW they are tiny that's genuinely amazing well done tiny slug soldiers i wont lie when you first put them in the tank the way you haf to delicately suck them up into that tube and put them in seeing them next to even one of the smaller ones they looked small next to the biggest ones they looked microscopic lol i was like maybe the pests will eat them but hey they showed that stuff 😅❤🥳🥳

Unfortunately it takes quite a long time to dial in your salt water eco system, which means having a clean tank that’s not able to be used for a while , would work if you had a smaller dialed in holding tank , but mostly I’m just painting you the level of work required so you can see why he’d just rather street fight them instead of nuking the city and starting over from square one.

So... this is probably a dumb question - as I know nothing of aquariums, let alone salt water ones, nor do I know anything about Aiptasia. But is there any reason you can't just physically remove them using, like some small grabber tool?

So the problem is I belive ripping them out just kinda makes a mess and I believe they can then regrow from any pieces left behind. So you may actually just spread it all over your tank. Not an expert though.

I'm ignorant so forgive me, but what is stopping you from getting tweezers and picking up one by one? It seems possible to an ignorant like me at least...

If he takes them out with tweezers, if any bits remain, new animals could sprout from the remnants. The way they anchor themselves within the rocks/apparatus in the tank makes them difficult to remove.

Attempting to manually tear the Aiptasia out of the tank will cause it to split into smaller pieces. These fragments will settle and grow into new Aiptasia.

You might see him end up doing that if there’s barely any left and his slug eco system is thriving so he would inadvertently actually need the aptasia to keep THEM alive (Salt water tanks I know ) so scrambling one up might work but then assume it’s a permanent resident because they’re constantly exuding “spores” which the filters work to keep at bay, you rip one of those suckers up it’s now squatting in your rental permanently
