Hey Jazza, cobalt blue is one of the heavier pigments, its a heavy metal paint. The green paint, which was most certainly a mixed paint pretty sure does weight less. That's why you buy paint in volume and not weight. You can't compare the total weight of the squeezed out paint, you should have used the same pigment and/or the total weight of the tube and put it in relation. Good vid though 👍

Cobalt blue is just the name of the blue. If you want one that is actually toxic with real cobalt in it, you have to go to a specialty store and there’s only a few of them in America. It’s like trying to buy lead white that actually has lead in it.

The point of a wet pallet is not to keep paints alive for days. Its to keep small amounts alive whilst in use. If you take out a small amount of paint on a regular pallet, its often dried out before you're finished with it, preventing that is what a wet pallet is for.
@Skeazix

That said, it's nice to be able to keep a certain colour alive for a few days. I have small children and prolonged paint sessions are not possible. It's great to be able to clean up in a hurry and still come back to the same mixed colours.

For your tube squeezing experiment, you need to use the same color since there could be a variation in weight by volume. Some pigments may weigh more than others and come colors may use more pigments than others as well. Using the same color removes the possible variables and gives a more conclusive result.

Instead of paper towels, just use the sponge and baking paper for the wet pallet; since it's in a sealed box it should last you well (mine last me at least 2 weeks). You can buy all this at the dollar shop. Jazza you probably dampened the sponge too much, that's why the paint was runny in your first wet pallet ^^

Used a homemade wet palette for many years, coffee filters work much better than paper towels, also best to buy sponge imbued with antiseptic/antibacterial to reduce growth in the damp container. There are additives that are paint friendly too that can help. Also made myself a sort of working open wet palette out of a cupcake palette by cutting up sponge to fit the round spaces and covered each one with coffee filter paper. I don't lid that one, but it keeps the paint wet for hours while working, especially on slow work like miniatures, and it keeps the colors separate. I detest dipping my brush in paint pots as it contaminates the paint leading to early spoilage. I always pour/squeeze out the paint I need and never return it to its original container. If making custom mixes or I need a container for a large volume, I use a new separate container.

Kneadable erasers are often bound together with some form of mineral or vegetable oil in the mix so I imagine if you do this often enough it will become less stable. That's also why they're not reccomended for erasing marks when you intend to have non-graphite media used at a later point on the same paper. Some don't mix well with the residue the eraser leaves

Ive used home made wet palettes for many years now and they work a lot better than the bought ones. You dont need to use a fridge and you can still put palette paper over the tissue, you get no absorption/runny paint and the paint will stay wet for months (i once left a smaller one on a shelf for around a year and forgot to clean it, the paint was still wet and usable)

Bog roll and kitchen towel are actually pretty resilient to pulping, newspaper is best, but standard office paper works to if you need white. Tear into strips, soak overnight in more water than you think you need. I then used a heavily modified fork (tines all bent 90 degrees, then made to do the YMCA dance) in a drill to tear it all apart. Then pour it all through a sieve. Takes a while to drain, but easy and repeatable paper pulp. I was paid a decent wage to figure that out. If you have an air cannon handy, and your inner 10yo likes spitballs, it's a very satisfying day at the office. For pure adult rated spitball fun, wet cotton wool is amazing. Impossible to shape into anything but a wad. Or a splat. Yup, that was a good week at "work". There was a legit purpose behind it all, I promise. Friday Beers were quite a messy event that week. Just make sure the boss gets the first beer, and the first shot on the gun. 🎉

When it comes to the wetpallet, I saw someone using the papertowel one but she put a piece of plastic on top of the towels, the plastic was littlebit smaller than the tub she used so moisture could seap up if she pushed down a bit on the plastic, thus making it easier to save the paint without it getting sucked in to the papertowels.

I've made a ton of homemade wet pallets. Best one I've made is a pan or plastic containers, one of those very thin sponge towels from Amazon, and parchment paper. Not wax, you need the paper to let water through. Pretty simple, very effective for acrylic. Honestly, I don't even put mine in the fridge. Depends on your acrylic brand and how big your piles of paint are.

Hi, sorry, out of curiousity, should it be stored in cupboard or fridge? I'm asking because he specifically said "cupboard" regarding the purchased version, and then purposefully showed himself taking Rae hack version from the fridge. And, follow up, would the purchased version have not gone quite as liquid if it too had been stored in the fridge, rather than left at the mercy of ambient (super warm and even more humid) air temperature/density that is the Australian summer? Edit: Should probably have waited an extra 5 seconds before adding that second question. I still feel it's relevant though as you have prior experience/knowledge whereas he's just curious at this point. Thank you
@cocobutter3175
@cocobutter3175 5 ай бұрын
@@desireeg5807 I think he meant to say fridge. We never put ours in the fridge though, we just leave it out, and I live in a really hot humid place. I dunno about the purchased version, it depends on what material it's using to hold the water. A lot of them seem to use sponge type stuff. The thin, felt like sponge towels seem to work great, better than a sponge or paper towel for me. The trick is not putting too much water in it. That's why it gets too liquid, because it absorbs too much water. The way we keep from adding too much water: we run the pallete and sponge with the parchment paper off, under the faucet, let it absorb all the water, and pour out any water that's left. We let it drip completely, until it stops dripping. Then we lay the parchment paper on top and it kinda suctions to the wet sponge towel. This works perfectly with the sponge towel material, and the paint never gets too liquid, and doesn't dry out. If there is too much water in your wet pallete, the paint will get runny no matter where you put it.

I think there might be two things that influence the tube squeeze test. Firstly, using 2 different colors, where one type of pigment might be heavier than the other. And second, the tubes are probably not filled with exact same amounts in the factory, only at least the amount as noted on the packaging with potentially a little more or less on top of that.

I guess Jazz went to a good school. There were spit wads all over our bathroom ceilings. It's just water and toilet paper.

The tissue painting might be more interesting as a textured, more 3D, medium. I wonder if it can be layered, or put on thicker and thinner… creating more depth with something cheaper than plaster and not having to paint every nook and cranny- I tend to miss tiny spots on ceramics and paper mache. As is… Maybe paint an old lady knitting a long scarf, but use the tissue paint for the scarf? I’d probably do more abstract shapes than trying flowers with this medium if doing a whole page in it.

4:24 squeezing tubes in a scale? It looks like you need tips from makeup breakup. Seems like a thing with Australian youtubers wanting to see how much product they can get out if stuff lol but the gals from makeup breakup weigh the tube when it's full and then weigh it when empty to see the true difference!

Maybe first put your paper in the blender, and when it’s like confetti shaped you add water and paint. And then make an epic Jazza art piece with it! 💚💪🏼🔥

Use a blinder next time to cut up the toilet paper. As a kid (which was over 30 years ago) we blinded up the toilet paper , put it in a play dough mold, let it dry, then painted it.

If you like 3d ish effects you could use the pulp for like woolen socks or a scarf in a painting. Could look good

For the wet pallet: by bf uses a piece of parchment paper on top of the wet towel. So ur colors dont get messy with the towel.

Try using a blender to make the pulp then in a bowl do the color. Use a variation of the density from finely cut to a more rough or larger pieces.
