I took my mother’s/grandmother’s antique butter churn as flight carry on ! I got stopped at security and the young man was much in doubt about letting it pass. Before my tears came out, an older tma came by and peeked and said, “That’s a butter churn; it’s fine.” I was so grateful for her! It made it home safely!

Just to let you know, I have that pink Pyrex set with four bowls, not a mark on them, also a brown set. Got them for a wedding present in 1964 and have used almost weekly. Mine don’t chip or fade, although I have seen some faded. You wouldn’t have worried about taking them home in a paper sack. They made things to last then!
@SHERRY0010
@SHERRY0010 10 ай бұрын
Why they fade or are totally washed out, is that they’ve been put in the dishwasher . Also, I would never use abrasive cleaners or scrubbing pads on them .I have tons of Pyrex from my mom . I treasure it . It’s all in excellent shape as well .

Hearing the floors creak as you walk around the old store buildings brings back childhood shopping memories of the 5 and dime stores. My aunt had one of those rotating lamps with a waterfall picture. Possibly because she worked in the lamp department of a large 5 & dime store. Gazed at it for hours as a child.

my grandmother was a Rosie the Riveter except her name was Ruby and they called her Ruby the Riveter instead lol cool piece of history for u from someone who not only knew a riveter but is closely related to one ...i was so very proud of my grandmother she was a strong , independent woman well before it was accepted and she laid the ground work for the women in my family to be successful independent women ...she was mighty special she even told stories about the Oklahoma land run b/c her mother was in it and helped settle Oklahoma ... which is cool but also sad to think about... cool b/c of the way they gave land away through a race... but very sad b/c the land was already occupied and they ran off the original owners the Indians and they mostly perished b/c of that loss they suffered tragically ...either way its history and very interesting ..we learn from past mistakes and i pray to god that anything like that never happens ever again ...

I really like your videos! : ) I think about who possibly parted with certain item. Had the good fortune to find a 1914 Panama Canal commemorative plate that was given out to the customers at a dry good store in 1914. All I had to go by was to decipher the name on the store’s sticker. For $3, I. now own a piece of history that affected international trade. Another recent beauty was a piggy bank was given out to customers when a certain bank opened on “that” location in 1977. Luckily for me, I used Google lens to track down two pictures and found the info. : ) A practical beauty for $6.00. : )

Many years ago in England, my friend married a very unsavoury character. He sold off all her mums antiques, stole things, and lied about everything. It broke my heart as my friend was the gentlest, kindest lady you could ever hope to meet. He started up a small business and used to buy old pine and wood furniture and used to strip and repolish them. One day he knocked on someone's door and bought an old chest from them, might I add, for a song! He stripped all the embellishments and decoration of it and waxed it, and tried to sell it to an antique dealer. The dealer asked him if it was decorated when he bought it and when he told him that he had stripped it all away the dealer told him that he had just completely ruined and devalued a piece of furniture that dated from the 17th century. It was worth nothing anymore. I couldn't help thinking that karma might have been involved!

The Gooseberry Pyrex was priced well. Someone no doubt made off with them in short order. 05:35 Some of pins might have been repro, but the chunk of Murano glass sitting in back of them was real. 08:52 When I was really little, about age three, my grandparents had a refrigerator with the coil on top just like the one behind the pump. It probably came with the house when they moved in, in 1946. (the replacement was avocado green.) Bet with a little tinkering that thing would run just fine.

wonder if the mezzanine store used to be a theatre, and you came in where the stage would have been
@GuyWithTheDogs
@GuyWithTheDogs 10 ай бұрын
It's not likely that the front door would have been part of the stage. It would have been somewhat awkward to arrive late, only to have to excuse yourself as you walked past the actors trying to remember their lines. Many retail stores, both large and small, had mezzanines like the one in that building. It was a way of increasing their selling space without enlarging the footprint of the building.

Only certain patterns and certain pieces of Pyrex are desirable. Its because there is not many made and/or left of them. Bows with handles are not worth as much as the ones without handles for the simple reason that when you see them for sale there is not all 4 pieces there. The handleless ones are 3 pieces
