Many skeptics claim Matthew made an error when he wrote of Jesus riding into Jerusalem and stated Jesus rode on two donkeys, but when we dive deeper you'll see Matthew did not make an error here.

I love how so many of these "supposed contradictions" are basically from people who thought they were the first who actually read the Bible with a critical eye and that the Gospels aren't the most studied and reviewed books of human history.

@@twitherspoon8954 Isaiah 7. This chapter sets out from the beginning of the year at the spring equinox. Ahaz, the Sun's ecliptic, is the king of Judah, or the first four months of the year. Rezin (delight) is also king of Judah. Pekah (open-eyed = summer solstice) is king of Israel, or the four months, July, August, September, October. He is the son of Remaliah (the Sun adorns = the flowers of spring), because he follows spring. These Rezin and Pekah) went toward Jerusalem (summer solstice), but didn't take it, because they didn't get there, a very good reason, certainly! However, David (the Sun), on being told that Syria (spring) and Ephraim (fruits = autumn) were confederate against him, was badly scared, for his heart moved as the trees before the wind. The signs of the zodiac were so many trees, which moved as the Sun moved, but in an opposite direction. The Lord (Jahveh) told Isaiah (savior-Sun) to go forth (from the spring equinox) with his son, Shear-jashub (returning-remnant = Libra and Scorpio, two of Israel's children yet above the horizon at sunrise) to meet Ahaz at the upper pool (the former rain, which came on when the Sun entered Scorpio) and tell him not to fear for, or because of, the two tails (ends) of these smoking firebrands (the two warm seasons). No matter if they (Syria and the son of Remaliah = Pekah) did take evil counsel against thee and try to set up a king in the midst of Judah - even the son (Scorpio) of Tabeal (the good Ram). For the Lord-God (Jehovah-Adoni = Sun at the fall equinox) saith it shall not stand, nor shall it come to pass. For the head (beginning) of Syria (spring) is Damascus (the East), and the head of Damascus is Rezin (delight), i.e., spring begins at the eastern equinox, and the season is one of delight. But yet it (Ephraim) within 65 years (days) shall be broken "from a people" (marginal reading), i.e., the season will be over half gone. Again: The head of Ephraim (spring) is Samaria (winter), and the head of Samaria is Remaliah's son = Pekah (summer), taken retrospectively. If you don't believe, it's your own fault (v. 9). Ahaz, having given no heed to what Isaiah had said, the Lord (Jahveh) spake again unto Ahaz, saying: Ask thee a sign (constellation) either in the depths (winter) or in the heights above (summer)." But Ahaz would not tempt the Lord (Jahveh)! So, the Lord (Adoni) gave the proffered sign: "Behold, a virgin (Virgo) shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel " (the Ram is with us, - Aries comes to his meridian as the new year's Sun is born at the winter solstice. Thence the two journeys together toward the north, meeting at the spring equinox = Sun in Aries). "Butter and honey, shall he eat that he may know to refuse the evil, and choose the good; for before the child shall know to refuse the evil (winter) and choose the good (summer), the land (winter) that thou abhorrest shall be forsaken of both her kings (vv. 15, 16), i.e., the winter will end. D'besh, here translated "honey," means a collection = the winter stores. "Libations of honey," says Faber, "were wont to be poured out to the infernal gods" (Pag. Idol., vol. iii, p. 220). Honey was, therefore, a symbol of winter. This may be inferred from the frequent phrase - "a land flowing with milk and honey," i.e., the productive land = summer, since winter is unproductive. Jupiter, let us remember, was fed during his infancy, with goat's milk (Capricorn) and honey. "The Lord shall bring upon the people days that have not come” (v. 17). Wonderful! that day should follow day. "It shall come to pass in that day when (not 'that,' as supplied by the translators,) the Lord (Jahveh) shall hiss for the fly (hunt bees) that is in the uttermost part of the rivers of Egypt, and for the bee that is in the land of Assyria (spring). After this they will come into desolate vallies," etc., i.e., winter will begin. Then, in that same day, shall the Lord (Adoni) shave with a razor that is hired of the Assyrians (the frosts of winter); then shall a man (the Earth) nourish a heifer (the Moon, - see Faber, vol. 3 p. 220,) and two sheep (the second sheep = Aries setting). Then, too, everyone, i.e., the people, shall eat butter and honey, i.e., of their winter stores (vv. 18-22). Then shall the land, which abounded with plenty (summer), be covered with briars and thorns (winter), and men will resort to the bow and arrow for food (vv. 23, 24). "On all the hills that shall be digged in the spring thorns and briars need not be feared, for oxen shall be produced” (Taurus of spring), and the season will yield its usual crop.

I’m kind of confused. In Zechariah 9:9 … the first “ass” or donkey is a male and the second “ass” is a female who is young. In this video Jesus is riding the young female donkey …. My question to you is, can a baby donkey be considered a mother? And how can that baby donkey be a colt when the word to describe that donkey is a feminine noun? I’m lost. Forgive me.

This speaks to me metaphorically. with Our Lord riding in on the new covenant accompanied by the older, as one proceeds from the other, and therefore must make the journey together. As noted in the video, it becomes our assurance that these events were the plan. Light and literal reading of the scriptures excludes the fact that God says these words are spirit. Amen.

@veridicusmaximus6010 10 ай бұрын
Yeah, keep telling yourself that. Matthew contradicts the Hebrew of Zech 9:9 and the other gospels. Now whether he rode two donkeys at once is not really the issue but skeptics say this because that is how it reads: "Look, your king is coming to you, unassuming and seated on a donkey, and on a colt, the foal of a donkey.’” ἰδοὺ ὁ βασιλεύς σου ἔρχεται σοι πραῢς καὶ ἐπιβεβηκὼς ἐπὶ ὄνον καὶ ἐπὶ πῶλον υἱὸν ὑποζυγίου. Matthew does not tell us HOW Jesus rode them. Now the charitable reading is assuming that Jesus dismounted and then got on the other animal. Either way there are two animals here being ridden to fulfill Zech. not one like the Hebrew of Zech. tells you nor like the other gospels. Deal with the facts!

Wouldn't you think if a baby was recognized as God at birth, and met dignitaries, and this God was walking around town for thirty years, performing 36 miracles and raising the dead, and was publicly executed and then his body disappeared from a secure tomb, and then the graves opened and the corpses rose out and walked into town, and the sun went dark for three hours, that someone at the time would have noticed and memorialized it in some way? Yup and the Gospels fit that bill pretty good. In the entire first century Jesus is not mentioned by a single historian, religion scholar, politician, philosopher, or poet. His name never occurs in a single inscription, carving, sculpture or monument, and it is never found in a single piece of private correspondence or official record. The Gospels do. Furthermore, this is just a textbook example of an argument from silence. Requiring proof of a negative is a fundamental fallacy of logic. There are no square circles There are no vegan carnivores There are no one ended sticks Abraham Lincoln is no longer alive. Fundamental fallacy of logic you say? Are you sure bro?

Man the problem here And why scholars say he is quoting the passage is because Of the contradiction and Mathew changed the verse in mark since it well established Mathew copied from mark gospel Matthew says that a donkey (adult) and a foal (baby donkey) were the animals (“s” for plural) that Jesus sat upon, while Mark, Luke, and John all affirm that one donkey was used for the Triumphal Entry. So Mathew specifically changed this verse and a lot of scholars say it fulfill that prophecy because there no reason why Mathew Would change it That what you are missing and ignoring So scholars say it because Mathew wanted to fulfill the prophecy that why and misunderstood the verse

@@nothingbutthetruth613 He rode the colt to fulfill prophesy. That is all that was necessary for Mark and Luke to report. However, Matthew added more that he recalled from his memory of the event. It is about about the image that God wanted to project. An earthly ruler would have ridden in on the strongest specimen of horse he could muster. Or perhaps on a chariot drawn by fine horses. Jesus, rode on a lowly colt that could barely support his weight. It showed his humbleness. No, it isn't normal. A king would extol his regal presence. Really, it seems like you are begging for an excuse to dismiss it.

The 'elephant in the room' which seems to be missed by these commentaries you cite is there were two entries into Jerusalem, one with a single animal and the other with two. One entry was in judgment in which the Lord laments over Jerusalem not knowing her time of visitation. The other entry was in blessing and, as it was on the 10th of Nisan, would be the same day and time the Passover lamb was being selected. One Gospel, Mathew shows Him as the King, while Mark shows Him as a servant, while Luke shows Him as a man among men. The Gospel of John shows Him as the Son of God and provides the 'time stamp' for the last week of His ministry prior to the crucifixion in John 12:1. In reading the passages regarding the animals used, watch carefully the time changes as there are two successive days involved as well as other deeds He did, such as the cursing of two fig trees. One was outside the city while the other was inside the walls. Mark and Luke record the first entry which was done in judgment. Mathew's account while similar is NOT identical to the other two. This entry is where there are two animals, and where He cleanses the Temple, in accordance with the requirement to rid the house of leaven as is described in Exodus. If one considers that perceived errors in the Bible are almost always due to a lack of understanding what is written, mainly through not grasping the culture and customs of the times. The other source comes through errors in translation. There are relatively few of these types of errors, and most often can be spotted by comparing manuscript with manuscript. Too often critics of the Bible, for their own particular reasons jump to the claim of a Biblical error, not because they care about the purity of the text and a desire to set things right (as it were) but more to be able to dismiss the Bible as an authority and therefore be able to continue in their own brand of unbelief. Thank you for your efforts to uphold the integrity of the Bible.

How is it common sense! Read how Matthew quotes Zech, Here I'll do it for you: “Tell the people of Zion, ‘Look, your king is coming to you, unassuming and seated on a donkey, and on a colt, the foal of a donkey.’” It says he will be coming to Zion seated on a Donkey AND on a colt. Why do you think Jesus asked for two animals and said he has NEED of THEM? Why were cloaks put on both animals? Come on it's common sense - in order to fulfill the prophecy.

Wow! Great work digging this deep. The only concern I would have is the fact that Matthew seems to be copying from Mark, and swaps out Mark's "it" (the colt) for "them" (which would most naturally be read as the mother and the colt). Any comments on the relevance of this?

They are the same stars in the Cancer constellation. The writer is pointing to the Summer Solstice in Cancer (Age of Aries the Ram known as El). The "death" of Moses (Aquarius) marked the precession of the equinoxes from the Taurus to Aries. This is where Joshua/Jesus takes over. Aaron, the brother of Moses, was also called Cohen Aldebaran. Aldebaran is a royal star and is opposite Antares in Scorpio.

In Mark 13:14-19 it has the destruction of the Temple followed immediately by "days of distress" which then mercifully get "cut short" (v. 20). Then "in those days, following that distress" there are signs in the sky and then "At that time people will see the Son of Man coming in clouds" (v. 26). These events are all in an immediate sequence, with constant emphasis on it all happening "at that time" and immediately after the Temple's fall. Is this in your opinion evidence that Mark 13 has the final apocalypse happening just after the predicted destruction of the Temple. If so, wouldn't this indicate a failed eschatonic prophecy or was there never really an estimated time for the apocalypse? Any help would be much appreciated.

Im no biblical expert but ive always thought that the disciples asked 2 questions in response to Jesus saying no stone would be standing on another. WHEN will THIS happen, and what will be the sign of your coming. Mark 13:4,28 [4]"Tell us, when will these things be, and what will be the sign when all these things are going to be fulfilled?" he goes on to answer both questions. I believe Mark 13 1-23 is the answer to the first question. The destruction of the temple. what will happen, and indeed did happen. Mark 13 24-37 is the answer to the second question. Mark 13:28 [28]"Now learn the parable from the fig tree: when its branch has already become tender and puts forth its leaves, you know that summer is near. this is the sign. After the temple, including the nation of Israel, is destroyed, it would have to regrow, be rebuilt...put forth leaves again)). Once that starts, the end is near. The antichrist will again sit in the temple proclaiming himself to be God.

The Temple is a symbol of Light over Darkness (six days/months in Genesis one). The "destruction" of the Temple is the end of this season and entry to Darkness over Light (six nights/months in Genesis one). The "let there be light" denotes from Darkness to light, aka the beginning of the new year/world at the spring equinox.

You’d think that if the writers, editors, and redactors where just a bit more clever in their attempt to deceive everyone they’d have fixed this issue. I think this and many of the other supposed “mistakes” or “contradiction” are good evidence of the genuineness of the Bible. The fact that no one ever felt the need to edit them out suggests that everyone accepted the accounts as truth and didn’t see these “problems” as significant.

Namely, Isaiah wasn't talking about a Virgin in 7:14 since he uses the word Almah rather than Betula to refer to the woman that is going to give birth? As well as the argument that the Isaiah 7:14 was only talking relevant in Isaiah's time and was a long term prophecy, let alone Messianic prophecy?

Isaiah 7.

The colt no one had yet ridden, the seamless tunic no one would cut, the tomb in which no other was interred, a crucified body without broken bones... all these and other peculiar elements of the gospels suggest symbolism about the integrity of Jesus that reached all the way to his conception and birth. Indeed, the female donkey that helped stabilize the colt could even stand for the virgin mother encouraging her sinless son as he carried the sins of the world on the cross.

I think Matthew is employing a pesher, the way he does with Jesus being called "Emanuel" and the "Nazarite prophecy". Probably it's true the mother was needed to control the colt, so Matthew could not pass up the opportunity to make the text more literally close to Zechariah: he does this absolutely everywhere he can to prove Jesus is aligned with the OT.

According to British historian, James Morgan Wellington III of Oxford University the common usage of the clothing items has pagan orgins. Wellington has been studying this connection, something he coined "sockology," since the early 1990s. He is most well-known for documenting the ancient origins of socks and their pagan association. Though it is a topic of little recent interest, the relationship has been noted in several ancient texts and seems to have been well understood by the Babylonians and Romans. The first usage of socks comes from the 3rd millennium BCE from a Babylonian priest during the reign of Sargon of Akkad named Harbishihu of Sumer he describes the making of socks involving the blood of infants as dye. The second usage comes from the Greek poet Hesiod, in the 8th century BC, the Ancient Greeks wore socks called "piloi", which were made from matted animal hair. The earliest known surviving pair of knitted socks, made with a technique called naalbinding, dates from 300 - 500 AD and was found at Oxyrhynchus on the Nile in Egypt. Oxyrhynchus was the sight of many pagan temples such as the temple of Zeus, Isis, Seraphis and Osiris. The socks feature split toes and are designed to be worn with sandals. Critics of Wellington have cited poor history and questionable methodology when dismissing his results, going so far as to call Sockology "nonsensical"( Crane 2007), "Pseudohistory" (Walker, 2010), and "quite possibly made up" (Johnson, 2008). Despite these criticisms, there does appear to be a strong correlation between socks and paganism, with Dr. Wellington documenting numerous historical references of pagan rituals involving socks leading to the conclusion that socks have pagan orgins and have been used in pagan rituals and rites throughout human history and are indeed "clothing of the most heinous origins" (Wellington 2006). I think the claim of "supposed contradictions", "skeptics", and the dismissing of brilliant biblical scholars who are well aware of theological history, as "people who thought they were the first who actually read the Bible with a critical eye" is a strawman. Of course there are skeptics and nonbelievers who try to find errors in the Bible in order to attack Christianity, but there is also plenty of room for Christians to believe that the Gospels (and other Biblical documents) are spiritual accounts, not histories, and that they can have differences between their tellings without calling in to question the fundamental truth of Christianity or the Bible. I've studied the earnest and sincere explanations given in this presentation. There is a lot of explanation with plenty of probably, might have, most likely and so forth sprinkled in to it, along with discussions of many scholars about the possible interpretations we can have of Jesus's ride in to Jerusalem. I agree that there are ways to organize and unify the various accounts and and those who want to do so can use that as a basis for saying there are no discrepencies among the Gospel accounts. To me, that requires a bunch of logical somersaults and suspension of common sense. The Occam Razor's (simplest) explanation is that there were early oral accounts told and retold and eventually written down that had minor differences, but that do not detract from their spiritual truth. Christians can believe that the Gospels present a spiritual account of Christ's life, rather than a literally word-for-word history. You just have to decide how to view them.

From the Hebrew gospels: Matt 21 Jesus would have ridden on the foal while also holding on to the female donkey. He is YHVH. He said to them, “This is what I told you while I was still with you: Everything must be fulfilled that is written about me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets and the Psalms.”

Doubtful Matthew would have misread the text; he probably knew the colt and the donkey rode in together, and saw it as a fulfillment of prophecy no matter how the text was read. Unlike our portray of jesus mounted and riding a horse, people back then rode donkeys sideways; it wouldn't have been unthinkable for the colt's mother to have been alongside for the journey.

There's no such thing as "the principle of charity" in defense of a supposedly infallible text. The much better explanation a la Occam is that Matthew was a human being who did, in fact, make mistakes. Matthew is desperate to show how Jesus literally fulfilled prophecies in the OT. With that obvious axe to grind, he made a simple mistake.

The two donkeys are stars in the Cancer constellation. The northern ass (white) is 158 light years from Earth and the southern ass (orange hued) is 136 light years from Earth. In astrology, which is not a science, Cancer is the fourth sign of the Zodiac and represents those born between June 20 and July 22. It is considered a water sign and is one of the four cardinal signs, which are signs that indicate a change of season when the sun makes its annual passage into them.

The use of the two donkeys, in the Cancer constellation, immediately tells us the writer is keying the story to the age of Aries (Ram). Which takes us back to 2,000 years before the Common Era, this is shown in Genesis one. The "let there be light" denotes the beginning of a season or Age. The six days which are actually six months is the period from the spring equinox to the autumn equinox (Aries thru Virgo) and this is illustrated in the Last Supper by Leonardo DaVinci. He places Virgo to the immediate right of Jesus and Aries (wooly headed) is to his far right. Pisces is placed to his far left and the scorpion which is divided into Libra and Scorpio, is on his immediate left. You will find sacred astronomy in most Christian art.

You try so hard to explain all these deeper reasons why Mathew might have used 2 animals but you are forgetting the actual verse. You conveniently simply excuse it like it can be interpreted in various ways and this is no proof Mathew goofed. However, that is ridiculous. First of all, whether you claim the word "them" refers to the animals or the cloaks, he still sat on 2 animals. If the cloaks were on "them", and jesus sat on "them", then he sat on 2 animals. How can you possibly miss that? Guntry saying he sat on a "wide throne" is just as silly and doesn't explain anything. In addition, you forget that the main part of Zachariah's statement and prophecy was not verse 9 but verse 10. Verse 10 is clear that horses will cease and war will be no more. The messiah riding on a donkey is not the prophecy. That's just stupid. How can the sign who the messiah is be a person riding on a donkey? I also rode a donkey as did billions of people. That's not a prophecy. The prophecy is how the world will change and this utopian world will be undeniable and verifiable with out any doubt. The horses which are a sign of war will be no more. That's the point of the prophecy but for some reason christians never read verse 10. I wonder why

@@nothingbutthetruth613 The preceding chapter 10, left us in winter. Here the rod (shoot, or new year Sun) is to start from the stump of Jesse (the existing Sun, the Sun at his farthest south declination). Hence the spirit of the Lord (Jahveh) shall rest upon him (Jesse), the summer solstice being exactly opposite. "He shall not judge after the sight of his eyes," but he will judge the poor (winter) with righteousness (summer), and that righteousness shall be the girdle of his loins (the crops - the Sun gets to the loins of the man in the almanac, about harvest time), i.e., all will be rewarded according to their labor (v. 5). But he will smite the Earth with the rod of his mouth, slaying the wicked with his breath (v. 4). This brings us around to winter. We now encounter a series of prophesies the most astounding in the Bible, i.e., taken literally, as usually taught by our clergy. That contained in vv. 6, 7 of this chapter, in relation to certain animals of the most discordant dispositions and natures - the wild, the savage and the ferocious, as the wolf, the leopard and the lion, against the gentle, the mild and the peaceful, as the lamb, the kid and the calf - the carnivorous against the herbivorous, is the one usually harped upon with a gusto really sickening to the intelligent. Little children, too, mingle with them without danger. Now the idea that all these animals of the most opposite natures should lie down in peace together - the carnivorous all at once becoming tame, gentle and straw-eating as the ox, is the most preposterous that could enter the brain of infatuated man. The thing is utterly impossible, and demonstrates but too well the frightful extent to which the fraudulent are willing to degrade the industrious in order to live off of them. Literally true the account cannot be. How, then, shall it be understood? The constellation Lupus (the wolf) rises as a paranatellon of Scorpio, i.e., the two rise together. At sunrise, then, the Sun entering Scorpio, the wolf (Lupus) and the lamb (Aries) "dwell together" just below the horizon, but opposite each other. Thus, the time was at the beginning of winter. The calf (Taurus) and the kid in Auriga and the fatling, an indefinite idea, which may apply to any small fat animal, as Noah’s dove (Columba), and the young lion (Leo) and the leopard all lie down together in the winter hemisphere, where they are led by " a little child " (Ganymede, Moses, Jesus, or the new year's Sun). At the coming of spring, the cow (Taurus) and the bear (Ursa major) are "green together" and " their young ones shall lie down together " - copulate. Who knows but by a misconstruction of the Hebrew text, one of the greatest miracles (the gendering of the cow with the bear) has been overlooked? Will not some of our worthy clergy look to this at once? Josephus tells us that at one time at the Passover feast (the time here spoken of) "a heifer, about to be sacrificed by the high priest, brought forth a lamb" (Wars, v 6.5). Why not produce a bear-cub as well? Herodotus also informs us that in the time of Xerxes, "a mare brought forth a hare!" (B. 7.57). But "the lion shall eat straw like the ox." The lion" typifies the Sun in winter, which, by metonomy, eats straw like the ox. "The sucking child " (the Sun between the winter solstice and spring equinox, which equals the time Moses' mother nursed him) shall play on the hole of the asp (the last half of winter); "the weaned child " (the Sun during summer) shall stretch his hand over the cockatrice's den (mearoth tsiphon = enlightened north = summer, which is opposite to or over winter = cockatrice's den). " They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain " = summer. No; for the period of destruction (winter) is past; the time of renovation and reparation has come; hence the earth shall be full of knowledge of the Lord (Jahveh = summer), as the waters cover the sea, i.e., the crops of summer. "And in that day," the crops being matured at the equinoctial day of autumn, there shall be a root (not a branch, as in spring) of Jesse (Sun in winter), which shall be a sign to the people that the Lord (Adoni = winter Sun) will " set his hand again the second time to recover the remnant of his people (Libra and Scorpio). At the fall equinox the Sun first enters Libra and afterward Scorpio, two constellations of Israel or summer, which remain below the equator at the time named above, and so recovers the remnant of his people from Egypt or winter. These same constellations coming in conjunction with the Earth, as in spring, the Lord (Jahveh) forsakes them and delivers them over to their enemies.

FYI "The burden of the desert of the sea "= Babylon = winter. It (winter) comes from a desert land - a terrible land. This treacherous dealer and spoiler comes every year as all know, when Isaiah's (the Sun's) loins are filled with pain, and he is bowed down (below the fall equinox to the winter solstice), where he ordered the princes (the stars) to arise and "anoint the shield" (the Earth, i.e., put a new crop on it). The King is the Sun /Gold and the Queen is the Moon/Silver. The Sun and Earth are never separated, remember the Lord God is a Sun and a Shield. Although the sun many appear to be in Aries at the spring equinox the real sun is in Libra along with Earth. The biblical Eldad aka Ram Lover = Aries and Medad aka Water Lover = Libra. See Isaiah 19.14-15, where the Reed, a water plant, is id with Libra. The tail of Israel is Scorpio which the Christians call Satan, father of lies. This has messed up a few Christian "teachers" who do not understand that Scorpio is also the sign of Love and Lust which comes with creation. Scorpio (Genitals) tells us a lot about the Jewish "ingathering." For thus hath the Lord (Adoni = winter Sun) said unto me, "Go, set a watchman; let him declare what he seeth" (Isa 21, v. 6). This was done. Presently he saw three chariots, one of horse-men, one of asses, and one of camels - typical of the three seasons in their order; the horses, of spring; the asses, of summer; the camels, of winter.

If I you think it is charitable to read it so that Jesus rode only one animal, let's grant that. The Hebrew poetic parallelism is stating one thing in two different poetic statements. Which means that the author was referring to only one animal. Why then does Matthew take it literally and insist that two animals accompanied Jesus? For all of the arguments provided about how many animals Jesus rode, what is not being addressed is that Matthew didn't know how to interpret the Hebrew bible passage correctly.
