Thanks guys! The atonement helped me when I was at hopeless state of being alcoholic and agnostic/atheist I said a desperate prayer because I used to believe growing up.. I had strong voice in my mind that told me to go to an AA meeting which I did.. it put me on a path to repentance and got me interested in the Bible especially the New Testament… and I just finished the Book of Mormon.. almost three years sober! Greatful for Jesus ultimate sacrifice so I can seek him always especially when I am low..

A few years ago, I was reading my journal about some financial difficulties I was going through as a newlywed in college. Having since gotten into a much better standard of living ten years later, I wished that I could go back in time and comfort my past self and reassure him that things would get better someday. Then I realized that's exactly how we can have faith in enduring our afflictions through Christ. Since He's been through every affliction, His reassurances that happiness will come from keeping the commandments and repenting come from a position of knowledge of our own future. If we can have the faith to believe Him as well as we would believe a more mature version of ourselves time traveling from the future, we can look forward to one day being free from all our cares because Christ paid the ultimate price. It really strengthened my testimony in the healing and hopeful power of the Atonement that we can enjoy now, not just the redeeming aspect of it that will save us at the last day. It reminds me of Ether 12:4, "Wherefore, whoso believeth in God might with surety hope for a better world, yea, even a place at the right hand of God, which hope cometh of faith, maketh an anchor to the souls of men, which would make them sure and steadfast, always abounding in good works, being led to glorify God." I really appreciate this channel. The casual, accessible, earnest feel of your conversations and your focus on specific and interesting aspects of the Gospel. Keep up the great work, guys.

Gentlemen, this is such an important topic and I love that you chose it! Alma 7:11-13 has been fundamental for me in recognozing one of the key aspects of Christ and his Atonement. Especially v13 where Alma teaches that "the spirit knoweth all things, neverless he suffered..." Now why is that significant? If the spirit knew he could have just told Christ, but as a result of him suffering He now knows how to help us, because he suffer exactly what we did. Keep it up!

Guys, you're doing a great work here. I want to point out a critical phrase in Alma 7:11. It says "And he shall go forth ... ". This sets the context to how Christ will suffer pains, afflictions and sicknesses. The prior verse speaks of Christ's birth. Then verse 11 says that Christ will "go forth" and suffer pains, afflictions and temptations. Think about it, Christ was not "going forth" in the garden of Gethsemane. No, His early mission was nearly over and he was stationary, kneeling, not going forth. Rather, the phrase "And he shall go forth" refers to his mortal ministry. He started it by fasting 40 days and nights where He suffered pain, affliction and temptations. Verse 11 is not referring to the atonement; it's referring to Christ's mortal life where he suffered just the way that all of us suffer physical pain, affliction and temptation. He did this so that he would understand WHILE IN MORTALITY (according to the flesh) what we experience. Christ was not spared the vicissitudes of mortality. These experiences helped him to have empathy and compassion to heal the people. I'll say it one more time: Alma 7:11 is not referring to the atonement. We must not ignore context that "And he shall go forth" sets.

Just wanted to share one of the verses that I have found to oddly be transformative for me having read it numerous times but not quite making a connection until now. 3 Nephi 17, specifically the parts where Jesus shows the type of Savior that He truly is. It’s incredible how much He believes in us as individuals. Human nature would have us label the worst of humanity as undeserving of love, and certainly not deserving of forgiveness for the worst of sins, but like it says in Romans, there is literally nothing we could ever do to sway His love for us and his desire to be with us again. No matter what we have done or will ever do, God’s hand is stretched out to us, offering love, acceptance, and a happiness that doesn’t just last for a few short moments. As hard as it can be to start the repentance process, there are few things that feel more freeing than taking those first few steps to return to the path to happiness

For what it’s worth. My career involved working in critical care units with patients on life support. As patients were on life support for prolonged periods of time their organs would begin to fail. Eventually, due to organ failure and the disruption of oncotic pressures the blood would begin to move out of the vessels and to weep through the pores of the skin. When we would turn the patient the sheets would be stained with the patient’s blood. But the color wasn’t red, it looked as if olive oil had been poured on the sheets because it was, for the most part plasma that was leaking out. BTW a search of Google said the wine used at the time of Christ was wine made from yellow grapes.

I served my mission in the south and when we asked what the Atonement means to our fellow Christian brother and sisters 90% were confused. When we explained it to them about how it was three fold (Garden, Cross and Resurrection) they did not believe that he suffered for our sins in the garden, let alone our pains, temptations and sickness. They believed he suffered for our sins only upon the cross. When asked why it says that he bled from every pore in the garden the common response was that he was so stressed out about what was to come on the cross…it was comforting to many to learn in a more well rounded understanding that the Book of Mormon clarified this along with what they found in the Bible.

That being said, thanks for the video and your realness. The Atonement has made me feel truly at one with Christ. Shame comes from the advisory but guilt come from our soul yearning to be inline with Christ teaching and light. Yes He has already suffered for me but I will not feel comfortable in His light if I do things that doesn’t allow it into my life.

Of course they believe in it ! In the garden Christ was praying to have straight because it would be not easy. Jesus gave His life for us at the cross. And we are all saved for the eternal death. But your choice in life going to lead you to eternal life in hell or in heaven. It’s sad how come Mormons don’t believe in the cross and mocked it! I remember when I was Mormon (30 years of my life) and used to mocking every cross and Catholics or others Christian’s in general.

One of the strongest points of Christ's suffering, for me, is when he's on the cross and he tells John to take his mother home. John 19:25-27 Now there stood by the cross of Jesus his mother, and his mother's sister, Mary, wife of Cleophas, and Mary Magdalene. When Jesus therefore saw his mother, and the disciple standing by, whom he loved, he saith unto his mother, Woman, behold thy son! Then saith he to the disciple, Behold thy mother! And from that hour the disciple took her unto his home. Christ is nailed to the cross and suffering, but sees both John his beloved brother and his mother watching and tells them to look to each other and John takes her away to his home. Thus neither actually sees Christ, whom they love so much die. (I support this by the fact that John does not write much more of the crucifixion, like the others do, and why wouldn't he, unless he wasn't there.) Anyway, my point is, that in all of his suffering and even at the very end when death was nearest, Christ, forever good, looked after his beloved people.

What Luke described in gethsemane is very important and I agree with that point. But Jesus did not atone for our sins there. In the Old Testament ( Israel Jews) had to bring a sacrifice blood was shed and death. The Bible described that Jesus bore our sins on the cross 1 Peter 2:24-25. Galatians 2:20-21 I been crucified with Christ.

From reading the scriptures and reading good books, I agree with you on the Saviour's atonement in Gethsamane. What He suffered was the resulting pain that is created when we sin. I believe that He shed all His blood there. If you read the Biblical account of the Garden and Jesus in the hands of the 'mob', it is quite illuminating. The Garden sounds like a horror when you consider the words the Saviour used. I wouldnt underplayed the pain of the cross, but the cross didn't kill the Saviour, He gave up His life so as He could take it up again and to show us that we will too. It's not just as fraught on the cross if you compare the words He said there to those in the Garden. Isolate His words and you will see. Regarding blood, we have watch too many Holywood depictions of Jesus after the Garden. When He had the crown of thorns placed on His head, when He was scourged and when He was nailed to the cross, blood is not mentioned in any of the Gospel accounts. It does mention blood and water when the guard pierced the side of Jesus to see if He were dead. The fluid that came from his 'side' is what's called a Pleural Effusion, it is usually a reddish brown thin liquid which occurs in the chest cavity when the heart is under enormous pressure and the lubrication around the lungs produces an excessive amount. When I had open heart surgery, I had complications and nearly died. Before I was discharged from hospital I had to have a litre removed from my chest cavity of this 'blood and water'. So, the only place and time that blood is mentioned at that time was in the Garden and nowhere else. I know that in Colossians 1:20 it says, 'And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself;...' I have look at this from a number of angles but I don't think it refers to Jesus shedding His blood on the cross. Instead when we refer to a burden or something difficult that one must deal with we say, we have a heavy cross to bear. Even the Saviour asked us to take up our cross and follow Him. Jesus had an almighty cross to bear in the Garden and it could be said, He made peace through the blood of His cross...in the Garden. As I said earlier, I believe that Jesus shed all His blood in the Garden, so enormous was his burden. From there until He said, Father it is finished, He struggled in a weakened state through His ordeal without blood. When I think of what He did for me, for us all, I am humbled and in awe that He took upon Hinself pain that would have sentenced us to an eternity of carrying that pain if He hadnt paid the price in our place.
@MartinDezion
@MartinDezion 11 ай бұрын
If He shed all His blood in the Garden, then He didn't fulfill His covenant of depositing some of it on the Mercy Seat. When they pierced His side, a mixture of blood and water came forth and when the earth quake took place, a channel was open so the blood poured down the cross, and blood/water mixture could travel down 20 feet to the chamber where the Arch of the Covenant had been hidden by Jeremiah. For centuries at the Temple, on the yearly sin sacrifice, the blood of the spotless lamb was sprinkled on one side of the mercy seat. The other side of the mercy seat was reserved for the blood of Messiah as a witness that the Son of God had verily arrived to fulfill His mission of Atonement and other ministry works.

@@MartinDezion I see you have edited your comments. Are you saying that Jesus Christ was crucified 20 foot above the Arc of the Covenant and the 1.5 litres of 'blood and water' seeped through the ground to be deposited on the mercy seat. Is that what you are saying? If so, I think you are being very unreasonable. For a start, I very much doubt that around 1.5 litres of liquid would travel that far into the ground without being absorbed in the first few feet of dried soil in its descent. Secondly, the liquid which came out of the Saviour's body when He was pierced with a spear was not blood as such. When the scriptures were written, very little would have been known about this medical condition and therefore it easy to understand why they called it 'blood and water'. I, myself, while going through open heart surgery, almost died. Having been traumatised, my body produced a liquid around my heart within the chest cavity. It's medical name is pleural effusion. It is usually yellow but it can vary from yellow to dark red depending on the circumstances. The red part is not technically blood but blood cells instead. The blood cells are only a component of blood. Given that it wasn't Jesus shedding His blood, that the liquid would have been absorbed within the first few feet of dried ground and that the mercy seat was buried deep in the ground below the cross but was opened by an earthquake with no mention that the cross would have been destabilised and affected without any mention of it in the Bible is a bit fanciful and improbable, don't you think? Where did you get your information from?

The rest of Christianity believe the same thing. One big difference between what Joseph Smith taught vs what Christ taught is the Blood Atonement. Nope. Something I’ve looked pretty in depth into but blood atonement was certainly never taught by Joseph smith and past a few comments Brigham young didn’t teach nor did he or any of our leaders practice this idea. Brigham and a few others such as Joseph Fielding did use this idea as a sort of support for the idea of capital punishment (which I might add many Christians are in support of capital punishment), but again, it was never and will never be an official teaching of the church. If you have any specific and credible sources to refute what I have learned in my years of study though, I’d gladly read over it and add it to my knowledge. If not, you might want to learn more about the actual teachings of the Church if you choose to attack it again. God bless

@@daniallemmon5453 Ah yes, Doctrine of Salvation by Joseph Fielding Smith. He did say that Joseph Smith Jr. Taught this idea. However, Joseph Smith's specific teachings about blood atonement from first-hand sources are non existent as far as I can tell. It is correct, though that Joseph Smith was in favor of capital punishment - executing certain people and he even stated that he believed there were men so vile that the only thing we could do was execute them and let their "blood" ascend as a testimony to God. But he believed there was no unforgivable sin through the atonement of Jesus Christ. It is also stated in many sources that Joseph Smith believed in giving chances to liars, thieves, murderers, etc. or as Brigham Young put it people as "corrupt as the devil himself" in the hopes that they might repent and be washed of their sins. For an example of this see HC 7:366-367. Again, you're getting lost in the weeds concerning a subject that has never been doctrine of the Church of Jesus Christ. It has been the opinion of some leaders, and it has been speculation held by others. But it has never been the official stance of the Church. Additionally, it wasn't just the opinion of some leaders of the Church but the debate over the sanctity of life, capital punishment, etc. is one held by many Christians all over the world. At the end of the day though, this isn't even an issue regarding the view of the atonement as taught by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, since the official view is (and has always been) that the atonement of Christ is "Infinite and Eternal" reaching throughout all of time, and holding a permanent effect on all those who chose to utilize it. In case you are curious what the actual doctrine of the Church is regarding the atonement, see 2 Nephi 9:7, Alma 34:14, 2 Nephi 26:24, Article of Faith 3, Doctrine and Covenants 58:42. There are a lot of other scriptures, talks from church leaders, etc. but at the very least those listed will be a good start.

Did Jesus really suffer everyone's sins, for billions who have ever existed! When did they agree to that? Would you agree to that in the pre-mortal covenant? "Okay Jesus, you go down, do our suffering for us, and we will go sew our bad oats, because boys will be boys." Oh we are so nice to our Brother! Does that really make any logical sense? The Scriptures do not actually say He suffered for every sin of the faithful, and God does not feed His children mysterious and incomprehensible concepts regarding basic keys of Salvation, nor does He require His well beloved Son to suffer anything unnecessarily. How does Jesus determine who of those billions will repent and be faithful. Because His Atonement is only for the faithful. What happens if one of those bad boy billions decides to be faithful after Jesus was done suffering. Will Jesus suddenly cramp over at the dinner table with pain because someone He didn't suffer for changed to faithfulness? Just tell me that you fully comprehend Jesus suffering for billions in just a few hours in a garden and on a cross. There are two categories of sin: Atonement related and Repentance related. The first is for the unpardonables that we have all committed by the very presence of blood in our veins and our egocentric attributes, that are all diametrically opposed to the Holy Ghost. Mtt 12:31-32 The second is for all other sins that can be forgiven by the Kingdom of God through faith and repentance; which will play into the process by which humanity will merit various eternal rewards or consequences due to levels of faithfulness. God would cease to be God if He were to cancel our suffering and all consequences for degrees of faithfulness. He will only cancel those sins we cannot repair on our own faithfulness. Unless you understand these two categories and what the real unpardonable sins are, you cannot interpret scripture related to the Atonement properly. (There are various ways and components of the unpardonable; thus plural 'unpardonables'.) The anguish of Gethsemane was His own self generated pain over the frailty of mankind and what was going to befall the Jews and mankind for the next many centuries. This bleeding proved His continued total harmony with the Holy Ghost and by that standard, His sinlessness. Jesus was not immune to growing grace by grace thru the things which He suffered, not immune to making mistakes, not immune to repentance, nor was He immune to Baptism. He was immune to death as He did not have blood in his veins and He immunized Himself against mortal egocentricity. Why would Father ask His Son to suffer the sins for billions of repentable sins that will be forgiven by the Kingdom of God, upon the anguish, suffering and penance of the faithful? Since repentable sins can be forgiven by the Kingdom of God; what kind of Father would ask His Son to go suffer those sins anyway? Not very gracious of Him, now is it? But have we not all sinned against the Holy Ghost, for since we all have blood in our veins and daily chose to not walk with God in our egocentricity, are we not doing what Adam and Eve did, are we not sentenced to die unless we have a Redeemer to intercede between us and the Holy Ghost?

He did not atone in Gethsemane. He was not praying on our behalf and paying for our sins in the garden. He needed to go to the cross where he would suffer and die for the sins of the world (numerous verses OT and NT). In the garden He was praying for strength to go to the cross and if there was another way to carry it out, but His Father's will be done. The angel was sent to support him in this time of weakness. Once He was on the cross no angel was sent because He had to complete the atonement on His own. It is clear that He drank the bitter cup on the cross. Satan will do all he can to take our eyes off the cross and place it somewhere else. Beware of the subtle deception.

the cross was not what atoned for mankind. His only worry about the cross was that staying too long on it would dehydrate His blood and prevent it from flowing down to the mercy seat 20 feet below. He proved His fidelity with the Holy Ghost by the blood in Gethsemane and by liberating the souls captive in hell. He completed the Atonement by fighting off the demons who tried to prevent Him from extracting the prisoners. having no accusers and demonstrating His unconditional love for all mankind, He was able to pass by all demons and angels to b e seated with Father. Now all faithful can on His name, likewise return to Father.

2:58 you come off as extremely naïve. Why don't you take a serious academic study of world religions before you try and portray yourselves as some sort of authority on religious doctrine?

You seem to have decent knowledge and experience of the military. But when you start talking about religious topics, you don't seem to be any legitimate background.

@@weightelkWe all have knowledge in varying degree. These lads have some knowledge which thay have enhanced by searching the scriptures and relaying it to those who may lack some of that knowledge, who have tuned into the video. Let them do what they are doing. At least it is all truth. You don't have to pay any attention to it, if you think it below your station.

@@bodyer2120 I don't think it's below my station. I like hearing varying opinions on matters, but it's fruitless to start an robust and serious study of a topic with the conclusion already made up in one's head. It's not a reliable method to seek further understanding. And when I hear the comment timestamped in my original comment, it's so clear to see that these lads have a very poor understanding of Christianity (and likely other world religions) which undermines their authority to speak on the subject. I'll continue along for the ride as it some of the most entertaining content on Mormonism.

I've been enjoying listening to them discuss things of Christ. I'm grateful they post videos. I think you trying to shame them while they share their thoughts is reprehensible.

@@The_Bow_Show imagine you're at a college campus and you wall into a series of classrooms. Each room has a different professor lecturing on a given topic. You enter a room where the professor is speaking about chemistry. He says, "are atoms a thing, or was that just a theory? Hm... Was it molecules that are the basic building block of life... Hm, not sure" If you heard that, you can be sure that the professor is not an expert on the subject of chemistry and you have no business taking a course in chemistry from that professor. You will not learn proper chemistry fundamentals from that professor.
