Why is everyone mad at the defendant for being business savvy and making a profit? Isn't that the precise reason why one undertakes any business venture?
@aartadventure
@aartadventure Жыл бұрын
Because she illegally used a residential area as a commercial for-profit business, likely under the guise of being a charity. Further, she leased the home from the Plaintiff, and I can almost guarantee that he had no idea she was sub-leasing it. A normal family causes some wear and tear to a home, requiring semi-regular maintenance, but imagine the damages done by 12 women all crammed in there, some of which likely have drug or mental health issues. Later the Defendant even tries to explain she didn't pay rent because the home became so damaged. Like, of course it had damages, you crammed a dozen women in there girl!

No way I believe she makes $4,000 in profit because the power and electric bill for that many people are likely very high. I have paid $300 for my summer and winter power bills with just two people. All the showers and laundry would make the water bill high too. I’m guessing she also buys food and have a second person on staff.

And she was refusing to pay her rent to own due to disrepairs of the property. You have to still pay rent, no matter if it is a regular rental or rent to own. Rent to own means the person buying is responsible to pay for the repairs.
@polljones8921
@polljones8921 Жыл бұрын
You weren't paying attention. That never happened. It was simply something they discussed. No agreement was reached or signed. As JJ very clearly says, "Well that didn't happen." So there was no rent-to-own. It was simply a standard lease agreement. Yes, you're right she should still have been paying rent, but the repairs in this instance are the responsibility of the landlord, the owner.
@jordanshannon6001

It depends, cuz the leasing to own never happened. But she can stop paying rent if the condition of her home is not livable. However she will have to put that in a work order. If it’s like a furnace that goes out she’s responsible for it and it said in her contract that like I said if the furnace breaks she hast to pay for it and she can’t just sit there and not pay rent to the person That still owned the rent to own and it does say also in her contract that if she doesn’t pay her monthly bill to that person for the rent to own, they can kick her out and keep all the money she’s paid into trying to own it.

@@jordanshannon6001 I don’t know if you have to put it in the contract or if it’s just a known thing but my friend did a rent to own and in her contract it states that she is responsible for any repairs or anything that breaks so if the furnace goes out, she is responsible to pay for a new furnace or a used furnace whatever and she cannot just sit there and not pay the owner because if she doesn’t, it also states in the contract that if she doesn’t obviously pay rent, even if something is broken that person can kick her out and keep all her money that she’s put towards owning it

She’s very anti-landlord anyway, Judge Judy that is. It’s not easy renting your property, because of things like this and the government allowing tenants to skip paying, I am selling mine.

No she isn’t. She’s anti-slum lords who want to renovate on the dime of tenants over wear and tear. If there’s legit claims and evidence provided she’s more than happy to oblige. She even complimented a few well organized landlords.

She was on the rent to own lease and forgot to read the big details that was her responsibility, like keeping the inside of the house in good repair. And to pay the rent on time every month. She knew she was in for it. Rent to own, is not the same as a regular rental.

I know what you’re saying. My parents owned an apartment building and heard my entire childhood how terrible it was. People moving out in the middle of the night owing months of rent, unbelievably nasty bathrooms, holes in the walls, stealing lightbulbs out of the hallway fixtures because they were too cheap to buy their own. I wouldn’t be a rental landlord if you gave me the property for free.
