I worked on this case day & night for over a month. It’s the first and only time in my career that we were given a shoot to kill order. He was being hidden in midtown Manhattan, by a retired cop. We actually had a sit down with John Jr. We basically told him that they wouldn’t make a dime on Bell Boulevard, until he was caught. They actually assisted in the manhunt. A lot of off duty cops, DA’s and paramedics who all witnessed the incident ended up getting fired. It was a crazy time!!!

It bothers me how the police work extra hard when a police officer is killed but not on regular cases. That would upset me if they were working on a family member’s murder case that they aren’t working nearly as aggressive as they are the slain cop! One person’s life shouldn’t mean more than another person’s life.

I worked for the owners of Avanti’s ,T Birds. ( T birds was a bar/ dance bar, not a diner) as a club promoter.ironically i was going to the 24 store on Northern Blvd across from the 111 pct . I was going into the store for a slushy when someone told cops i was the guy that shot the cop. After being roughed up with my head slammed down on the hood of my car, insides of my ankles kicked apart, the desk Sargent told the cop that detained me my ID showed i wasn’t this guy. Scary time for me that day. Bad time for Bell Blvd. That almost killed the whole vibe.

The Bell boulevard night life scene never recovered after that night. There were cops all over Bell Blvd till the day he surrendered. To this day, Bell Blvd has never been the same. I remember that incident like it were yesterday.

just discoverd your channel. i dont know if alot of non nyers watch these but i find them to be a trip. as i have spent time in most if not all of your locations friends jobs good bars. just home to me. this one is close to my home.. wed and thurs in the 80s was a time to go drinking on bell. who can for get clubs like camofloge 40 05/crazy moose. some are still there... the son of sam hung out at the white castle at the corner and elphas was a few blocks away on northern blvd. i was there that night i was across the street in the crazy moose.

I worked with Patrick For 3 years in L’Amour East. I know the story before he even got arrested. The cop he executed is the person that hit him in the head with the bottle. Plus he was pissed off because they treated him by banishing a gun toward him & threatened to kill him. He was the nicest guy you ever met. He would give you the shirt off his back. But if you threatened him that was a different story. He was hidden by high profile people. I am not at liberty to say who. Pretty accurate story.

I had a job right on the queens Nassau border, and the guy I worked with kept getting pulled over because he lived in Queens and he told me that I was a dead ringer for this guy, and not to drive into Queens. The shooter was just a real moron. Wanna be tough guy, had a good education, but he wanted to hang out in bars and act tough., He could’ve found a different job than that just an excuse

This is funny. I'm a large blonde Irish American guy and I look a lot like Patrick Bannon. Probably even more so at the time of the manhunt. In California we never heard of this. I always wonder why so many New York criminals never leave the 5 Boroughs and go to places like Alabama or Arkansas or Oklahoma, where nobody is looking for them. I've got to believe from the verdicts that the cop and his buddies were considered more than a little responsible for the situation. It was when he crossed the line and executed them that the situation got totally out of control. Have to assume under New York's current regime he'll get released sooner rather than later. Probably would have by now if he weren't one of us Paddies. As for the Mob connection he could have been dealing for somebody who didn't want it to get out. His behavior screams drugs, possibly steroids and speed (late 1980's). His willingness to kill indicates he might have been employed by mobsters to do rough work.
