Old lion thing. Lewis might have one mighty swing in him (we'll see next year), but there are young lions in the cage that can now take him on and soon enough one will deal the lethal blow. Max gave him a huge blow in '21 (not lethal though as Lewis would have then retired), but if he's going to drop behind Leclerc next year we'll know the swing will not come. Concerning Mercedes, Lewis will soon enough not be included into important meetings with an outlook beyond this year (perhaps already happened). In large I would guess that drivers aren't included into real strategical meetings anyway, since they have no gardening leave and simply have to focus on the race weekend anyway. Those meetings that share content with an outlook until end of contract will just go on with Lewis in them, since Mercedes has an interest to maximize WCC points. Mercedes has also never really shown interest in clearly favoring a driver on operational level so they'll probably not be starting that any day soon.
