I inherited an old chest that, according to family lore, came to America on the Mayflower in 1620. In this series, I research the history of the chest in search of some concrete answers. I also want to find the best place to donate the chest so that it will stay safe for future generations.

We might be related, I’m filling out paperwork for the Mayflower society. My uncle is already part of it we just have to fill out and send in.

Fantastic. When the Smithsonian opens again, you can visit your great-grandfather's chest.

Enjoyed seeing the chest and knowing that it is safe for everyone to view at the Smithsonian. I saw it when you first posted it but am just getting around in saying hello. We are related through several of my Mayflower ancestors. I am a life member of the Mayflower Society and my parents were 50 year members. I have 6 lines back to Stephen Hopkins and 4 to Edward Doty two of our 21 Mayflower Passengers I am descended from. Interestingly my Taylor family also went from the Cape to China and Vasselboro , Maine where my Grandmother was from. I live on an Island off the coast of Maine along with many Hopkins cousins. We have been here sense 1765 when we migrated from Marshfield and other locations. My Kent family came up and my Carvers also from Marshfield.

It looks like a Handel the middle pice of it 😳 they had to sneak things around sometime and that definitely looks like a Handel?

@@stephenbeverage952 YES! MAINE, I am the descendant of Hopkins through the Snows too. My GG, Maizie Berniece Carey , is the great granddaughter of the Snows, Hopkins grandchildren. They are all from Maine but now we all live in Connecticut.
