06:10 Omg! These are fashion critics? How on earth did he think the JPG collection was in 2007?? Is that the year he was born? It was 1993! What is being said here is “we hated this collection” fair enough. But please check your references, ugh!

Ummmm There was no native reference in The collection. It was all 60’s regurgitated “Woolworth’s” department store cowboy polyester garbage. There were a couple sweaters and jackets that stood out but it was just costume. Pharrell has at least admitted he’s “not a fashion designer.” So there you have it.

Great commentary from the panel. Love the dialogue. I believe that the lovers of LV will buy some of the pieces of this collection, but we've seen the looks before, so nothing innovative, but some great pieces; particularly the opening look.

It was definitely a play on Americana which is a bit different than Western Culture. Americana is appreciated outside of US soil, but coveted by menswear aficionados globally. I also think that although it lacks innovation, you really have to be "that guy" to wear it. Also, most designers are making "costumes" that run parallel with the fantasy worlds that fuel their creativity (Rick, Area, Schiaparelli, Mowalola) and more importantly, people aren't afraid to wear it either. You guys mentioned the 1% (definitely in price) but I think it's more of collection that appeals to the "fly guys" he probably grew up around, that influenced his own style. Also as it pertains to Americana as a genre of style, I think he did a great job with modernizing, specifically with the Timberland boots. Arguably speaking Timbs and AF1's is American culture, specifically in Black American Pop Culture (he comes from a specific era of men's style as well). Even the moto jackets is a play on the Vanson leather trend and NY biker culture, but flipped on its head. The luxurious parts of the collection are the style codes hidden in between it all that if you hadn't lived it or really seen it lived in, worked in, then you will only see it as this mundane thing.

the collection makes no conceptual sense. it's based on this insight that cowboys were actually black and native american people. then the clothes are traditional costuming from westerns with white cowboys.

45:00 The idea of hiring based on race is so outdated and one sided. The team is white because the system is European. You have to look at the system (both on the corporate level and immigration level) already lower the chances of the "diverse" crowd we all dream of. You need the proper CV to get that role, you have to go to certain top level schools in London, Paris, Milan or Europe to even get an interview, to attend that school you would probably need to pay expensive tuition fees not including living and study expenses. After that you would probably need to find the right working visa to be able to work. So the idea that race is not just a visual reference but you also have to look at it systematically. If we want to see more POC all you have to look around. Especially in Paris, there are hundreds of struggling designers in tiny showrooms that probably spent all their savings on the samples that are waiting to be discovered. Why want a seat at the big table? when these young kids are already started building their own? Get a chair, take a seat and talk about them for an hour like you did here.

17:44 "Their job was to go out and rob people of money." Ignorant snobbery. Cowboys weren't highway robbers. They were working class people who ranched and hearded animals. Often these animals were cows, hence the term "cowboy." Its the same thing they are doing today. Why is this man commenting on fashion for which he has no historical reference? Cowboys aren't a hard concept to understand. We need better panelists, preferably ones with real world knowledge.

The one woman on the panel has very little appreciation for western ware as a "basic" for many around the world. It also expresses the respect for inventions from prehistory like leather, buttons, needle work, and layering for protection against the elements. Farrell has put together a classics collection. You would not critique Tommy Hilfiger or Ralph Lauren for doing classics. She represents a modern urban sense that does not appreciate the subtle importance of history and its presence in our culture through fashion.

It’s a business and it’s a collection that won’t scare the horses (metaphorically and literally with the cowboys). There’s enough in it for the most footballer type to buy. There are plenty of items that will fit into an existing wardrobe. I’m sure there are plenty of LV customers who will only wear this for a season. Is a cowboy theme a legit one? Why not! We see PLENTY of military/navy/workwear/pirate looks and this is another variation on the theme. Is this great fashion? No but as I said it’s commercial and they make billions

Pharrell’s latest collection made men’s clothing interesting and beautiful and not Boarig! He brought pearls and jewelry to men’s wear in a masculine way. Pharrell has upgraded and refreshed the Louis Vuitton brand and this collection will be talked about for decades to come. This collection is not for bland people like yourselves. You guys seem short on knowledge about Pharrell and, high fashion, quality of fabrics, and tailoring. Don't qualify to talk about cultural appropriation as white guys, hence you talking about cultural appropriation on behalf of Native Americans is cultural appropriation, you are doing exactly what you are pretending to care about.😒
@jcc9549
@jcc9549 5 ай бұрын
The native angle was a stupid conversation point. Correct. But let’s be clear, 90% of the collection was taken from 60’s “Woolworths” department store polyester dungarees or early Sears catalog mail order. 10% was interesting sweaters and coats and some bags. The rest made no sense and would absolutely NOT be worth the price point. The cuts of the pants were poor fitting. If you’re going to put women in men’s pants, then make them fit, at the very least.

@@Neema150 ...Fool please. I shop at LV and spent 3 hours in December, in the Dubai store trying on his first LV collection that is making its away around the world for launch this month in stores. I love many of the pieces of that collection and pre-ordered a few. But this cowboy nonsense, much of it made out of poly wool stretch fabrics from the 60's misses the mark. Some of the more creative pieces were great and the bags were as well. But the basic stuff?? Meh.
