Was Cleet killed unfairly in cold blood by John and Sadie in red dead redemption 2? Was Cleet a "good" guy that could have been reformed?

@@SOBEKCrocodileGod He was in Strawberry, very close to Micah’s gang hideout just like Arthur and the gang used to hang out in Valentine when they were at Horseshoe Overlook. He also told them exactly where Micah was. He had to be close to even have that information. He would rat out Micah if he was also a rat. Micah’s the type of guy to attract rats. Also his first known association with Micah was 1899 and he’s still running with him in 1907 during the epilogue.

I do think it's curious to balance Cleet against the themes of RDR2. From an outside perspective, John and Arthur would have been considered irredeemable as well. So it's interesting think about Cleet possibly having a change of heart during his ride with Micah. In the years that followed Beaver Hollow, he was pushed to his limit watching the atrocities Micah committed and finally walked away, similar to how many in the Van der Linde gang felt in regards to Dutch. Not saying Cleet is guilty or innocent but it's something to think about.

He's dressed for colder weather than he's found in and just so happens to have fell out with micah over a child when one of the people threatening him he knows is a parent. Yet was ok with everything else micah did for this long. Just because redemption is in the title doesn't mean everyone is working towards it. If you knew for sure he was guilty you wouldn’t have the option to spare him, and literally gain honor when doing so. And no, the fact that Sadie kills him anyway doesn’t say anything about his guilt. It’s simply a statement that sometimes folk kill and/or die and there’s nothing you can do about it. Kind of unrelated, but still a topic that continues to confuse me is how Sadie seemingly gets away with anything. I mean it could be boiled down to just rockstar not having the first clue on how actual bounty hunting went down. For one while going after Micah she’s not operating on behalf of any issued bounties, she’s going off of “rumors” so killing Cleet would’ve gotten her a nice little murder charge. Where were the lawmen during that whole ordeal in Strawberry anyway? Idk I guess Rockstar seems to think Sadie can just tell the local law that she’s a bounty hunter, and somehow suddenly makes anything she does ok and perfectly legal. It’s a part of the game that’s always been odd, and really not believable to me.

Yeah, I feel this way, too. She uses the fact that she's a widow as an excuse to be violent, as well as using the fact that bounty hunting is legal work. She shows little remorse for human life. She reminds me a bit of Dutch, which is funny, since she steps in for the role of Dutch while he is away in Guarma. She's woke service and written horribly. Oh, so since you've done boyish chores before that means you can turn into a completely different person in an afternoon, buy a pair of pants and a pistol and take on scores of experienced gunfighter without a problem, as an 1800s lady? Yeah fkin right. Every time this gets brought up people like to mention Arthur isn't realistic either because of his ability to take bullets but that's comparing game play mechanics of the main character to the story writing of a side character, complete apples and oranges. Not only is she unreasonably unrealistic, She's just poorly written. She's the only character who can take her revenge willy nilly in the story and be fine. It goes against pretty much the main message of the entire story. If she was written decently at all she would've died at hanging dog ranch but no, she's clearly just a shoe-in attempt to pander to female gamers. Because women aren't cool unless they basically become a man apparently. It's dumb.

People have such a hard time understanding this because they are incapable of seeing through presentation and actually thinking about the actions of the characters. There were a couple of things that made me think Cleet was telling the truth. One was that he tried to keep the gang calm when they were robbing the train and seemed to want to work together. The other was that when the final standoff occurs, I don't believe he actually targets Arthur and John. HOWEVER, its been year since I played the game all the way through so somebody else will have to let me know if I remember right. I think he's just the unfortunate victim of not having enough of a backbone to get out from under Micah's thumb until it was too late. I have nothing against Cleet. He never did anything to Arthur or John. He told John and Sadie the location of Micah. Sadie is just a psychopathic murderer with crazy bloodlust. Her character is a loose canon that’s no worse than Micah in that regard. I’d say she had issues before her husband was killed and she was taken hostage.

The only reason we have to NOT trust him… is because he was associated with Micah There isn’t a single shred of evidence as to his character either way, besides the reason why he has a bounty… something every member of Dutch’s gang is guilty of at the same time… What I do believe is that Micah would kill a little girl, what I do believe is that it would have to bother at least one person from the group and force them to leave like Cleet. What I think people get really stuck up on is when cleet says “I’m one of the good guys” of course he isn’t. I do believe he is not as bad as Micah and did not want to be involved with what was going down. Ultimately, you could be equally as right or wrong either way, so in cases like that… I do not play executioner, especially not to a man I hardly even know or knew and only have other people telling me what to think and feel.

To answer, given the lack of relevant information about him, I think you must presume what Cleet would do to John & Sadie if the advantage was switched, and it was their heads on the chopping block and his discretion deciding their fates. I think Cleet would hang them without any hesitation. I never saw anything to convince me otherwise. Especially if it was on Micah's orders or if there was something in it for him to gain. I think Cleet & Joe were, like Micah, the type of fellers who reckon "right or wrong" is basically the same as "win or lose". Plus, he is clearly very backwards & stupid. Hard to say "right" or "wrong" given the times and circumstances they all live in, those words had different meaning back then for all of them along with everyone else around them everywhere. Remember when professor electric chair tried to fry that guy? When it was all over there was a lady there, a normal law-abiding citizen who came to watch, and she thought it was "just a fine thing" that the man suffered so much during his execution. Right and wrong were much more commonly comingled and difficult to distinguish by everybody at the time...the law, the citizens, the outlaws, the military, the perps, the victims, everyone. After all, execution was a stage show as much as it was an exacting of justice. IMHO Sadie & John made the safe choice, and in those times that means also the "right" choice. "Right" meaning "correct" or "logical" more than "righteous" or "just". Else they likely will come back to haunt your future just as John and Sadie eventually do to Cleet, Joe, & Micah, John eventually does to Bill, Javier, & Dutch, and the Pinkertons eventually do to John. I am on Yosemite Samantha's side this time...which is not normally the case. Cleet's biggest mistake was not rolling over on Micah immediately. His knee-jerk response was to try to protect Micah instead. Despite not running with him anymore, as he claims. I doubt very much there was ever any falling out between Cleet & Micah. I think he was still in Micah's gang and loyal to it when they finally caught up to him. If they had caught up to him standing next to Joe on that mountain instead of isolated and alone in Strawberry, he would have been shooting at them rather than lying to them. He tried to lie his way out of that predicament. It didn't work. Simple.
