Did the Chemical Building Blocks of Life Form in Space?

For years scientists thought complex molecules could only be formed on Earth. But what if we did find these kinds of molecules out in space? What if they could be formed not just in and around biology but also in cold, dark corners of the universe? Scientists have wondered if they might have been early seeds for life on earth, or even a stockpile of molecular building blocks deposited onto our planet and others. In 2023, we found ortho-benzyne in molecular clouds, a simple molecule that helps to create more complex molecules.

What’s your favorite molecular cloud? Mine is the Orion A molecular cloud. Oh you don’t just have a favorite already picked out and top of mind? How weird.

While it is technically true, organic molecules are solely sources from life.

This is actually pretty cool! And a nice starting point for explaining why we find such complex organic molecules and amino acids in comets?

2:00 saying space is cold isn't 'particularly' meaningful since there aren't many particles there. That's the temperature of the background thermal radiation
@problemsolver3254

the 270k temperature for space is from the cosmological microwave background. the gas clouds them selves tend not to be cold.

The theory on carbon molecule creation is sadly unproven. It would be nice if it was though.

I don't buy this theory of forming organic molecules in space first then rain down on planet. It should be easier to rain down basic carbon then form organic molecules with hotter temp.
