Ghostie~!! ❤ Make sure to play along and tell us how you did! 👀 It was SO fun meeting GHOST9 when they were in NY for their US tour (especially after being blown away by their live performances) 🔥 The boys were soo sweet and were super interactive with the classical musicians! They asked them a lot of questions, kept complimenting them off camera and Jinwoo even asked to take a picture with Ken’s cello 🥺 If you had fun watching this video, please share it with fellow Ghostie, thank you 😘 TEMPEST are our next guests on K-lassical Question Game, please look forward to them! 20:30 I'm a former ballet dancer and I've asked my teacher this question before. My teacher said that when you're waiting in the wings of the stage ready to go on and perform, the curtains that divide the wings (behind the front curtain) are called legs. When someone says "Break a leg!" they mean "break through the leg of the stage, cross the line onto the stage and show them what you got". That's my understanding of what "break a leg" means. Hope this helps. :)
@Ca-yr2rz

Oh wow so many versions! I've been told it's because saying to a performer "good luck" is actually bad luck, so you say kinda the opposite ("break a leg").
@oxoelfoxo

I was told it's because when you've done a really good performance you go up to the front to face the audience and cursty/bow aka "break a leg"
@nobiasjustlove
@nobiasjustlove 2 жыл бұрын
i always thought it was basically telling you to do an amazing performance you'll have to keep coming back out to take a bow so much that you'll 'break the (curtain) legs' from having to keep raising and lowering the curtains for you. :) not sure if i explained it well.
@mjstockebrand
@mjstockebrand 2 жыл бұрын
I remember when I studied Ballet I was told that "break a leg" was meant as trying "not to jinx it" sort of thing. Like if you said have a good performance would jinx it, so you said the opposite.

I loved that nowadays many of Kpop group start talking in different languages and it’s more surprised to me that most of the members in the group are trying to speaking English as much as they can to make the interview lively and fun 🤩. I didn’t know this group before but now I know and I will look forward for more about them

Once something goes global English is kind of an acquirement and it makes it a lot easier tbh. In the work world this is essential these days :D But I was thinking the same... this group as a whole seems to know English quite good....most of the times one or two members (if they aint from the US or Australia for example) know it.

I always thought people said "break a leg" because they didn't wanna jinx the performer by saying "good luck." Since sometimes people say that saying something could make it not come true/happen. So saying something that's the opposite of what you want to happen could bring better luck, I guess? I swear it makes sense in my head lol

I remember seeing somewhere that people say "break a leg" to like actors or musical actors is because you want them to end up "in a cast" yknow..like the cast that covers your broken leg or the cast that is the crew

I really like this series. As a follower since almost the beginning (I had to binge watch only about 10 episodes way back when) I love the fact you have grown this channel from just reactions to now interacting with the groups. I have found a whole heap of new songs and groups from this channel and especially from the K-lassical Question Game I have found new groups that I now check out. Your questions are always very interesting and completely different from the questions normally asked so I am always learning new things about the groups I may know. I am sure there is a lot of work involved so well done Emma. Well done also to Kevin, Stella and Ken for arranging and playing the songs. I only got one right :( but they all sound beautiful.

We have it organized so that if it's not their song, it has to be a snippit of the hook and if it's their song, it can be any part of the song! We're making it easier next time around by literally just sticking closer to the melodies of the songs and not changing the rhythm/melody itself up too drastically 😅👍

Haven't heard of Ghost9 before. I'll look up their music. Edit: I mixed up the bad luck to say Macbeth with the break a leg origin. Break a leg came from Elizabethian times. Some say it meant to bend your knee, or bow, because the performance was received well. Some say it was the fact that the audience used to bang their chairs after a good performance and it was thought they might break a chair leg with their enthusiasm.

Re: "break a leg" - another commenter already timidly/uncertainly mentioned the real reason behind it, and I want to confirm and expand on that - The real reason it's said instead of just "good luck" is to avoid jinxing the person. I've done a lot of performing on stages starting from when I was a very young kid (acting, dancing, different kinds of music), and especially with acting, whenever any of the kids in the company would wish someone luck before a performance, they would be immediately, aggressively scolded by the older kids and adults - they'd say "don't say that, you're gonna jinx them ! Say 'break a leg'!". I also remember being told some kind of story (probably just like a folk story/urban legend/fable type thing) by the seniors in the company about people wishing someone good luck before a performance, and the performer ending up breaking their leg during the performance - I don't remember exactly how the story went, but that was how the choice of the specific phrase was explained to us (if you say "good luck", they'll break a leg, so instead, say "break a leg", and they'll have good luck) I've only encountered the "casted" explanation very recently, I think I saw it in a tik tok or something - that explanation is just a pun someone thought of after the fact. It's very clever, but it's not the real reason.

The break a leg thing is I guess a western thing ... I am not sure but when I lived in Germany we said "Hals -und Beinbruch" which means "break neck and a leg" xD Originally I am from Croatia and "break a leg" is an expression here as well...I personally dont hear it as much as in Germany for example. But I didnt know that that one isnt known in Korea. You learn something new every day. I listened to 2 or 3 songs by them and they seem very promising. They are added to my playlist
