Real talk, I generally don't mind the Tour course selection, but it would be nice for there to be more southern tracks. Honestly surprised we didn't at least get a Brazil or Egypt course, both could work real well, imagine driving along the side of a pyramid or gliding down past the statue of Christ, it'd be great. Europe is nice and all, but I can see London after a couple hour train ride and it probably wouldn't be a much worse experience than the track minus all the potential muggings and smog.

The one thing I hope for a future Mario Kart game is that it doesn't feel as... restrictive? as 8. I dunno, but after playing other kart racers like Crash Team Racing and Racing Transformed, Mario Kart 8 just felt sluggish to me so maybe a way to make it feel faster and give us a bit more freedom in how we approach races. That was a bit vague, but I would also love to see more dynamic tracks like they introduced in the booster course but turned up to 11, like with the Panzer Dragoon course in Racing Transformed, and the Wonder Flower I think would be an amazing way to do that! either that or having tracks tell a small story would be really cool!

Honestly I just want to see a more grander nintendo focused mario kart - still have the majority of stuff in the game be mario, but have a ton of kirby, f zero, zelda, splatoon, xenoblade, whatever stuff as well. Gives them the chance to do something a bit more drastically different mechanically and/or design-wise. It would just open the doors to something a bit more fresh than "just another mario kart" - and hell, even if it IS "just another mario kart", at least theres like a third of the roster made up of non mario characters and tracks to spice it up at least a bit. Its been a decade of mario kart 8. Now is the best time to do something massively different with the next game more than ever before.

They removed the gatcha elements like a year ago which is why I started playing Tour again You can no longer pay money to gamble which is a huge win in my book. However you do get a free spin of the wheel for playing enough courses so that's 🤷 But now you can buy any character, kart, or glider by saving up resources and then spending them on the specific thing you want ^^ The shop does randomly switch out which karts, characters, and gliders are in each day's shop though, so if you want something specific like the cute 8-bit Super Mario Kart Mario, you'll have to save your gems and just check if he's in the store each day.

I'm still giong to prefer the original Mario Kart 8 DLC for the Wii U, which was yknow... good, and had courses that looked even BETTER than the base courses (Big Blue my beloved), as well as new characters. That was a DLC that actually had a plan.

What I would like the most out of a future Mario Kart is different physics. What I love about Mario Kart is that each game really feels different to play, in a really fun way (Super Circuit's track design taking a LOT of advantage from its physics, the way drifting and getting hit works in Double Dash, the differences between bikes and karts in Wii with the really fun physics and 7's fun collision system). While the Booster Course Pass helped me in appreciating 8's mechanics a lot more than before, especially because I really enjoy the average BCP track way more than the average base game track... I really want to see new possibilities arise from a new physics system. (and tbh I'd also really like to see a brand new selection of tracks rather than adding onto a previous one because a fewer amount really helps in making each track stand out and have its proper identity, even if almost every Mario Kart track is able to shine even with 95 tracks next to it)

You are right about the lack of black characters in Mario Kart. The Villagers should also come with skin tone options. But the future is, as stated, kind of blurry. Ideally for the unimportant race issue, some charcters will get skin tones or costumes representing other races without breaking character (like we're not going to see Asian Mario bros). Porting a "port" is not going to happen because that is...well...stupid. A lot of 8 deluxe originally (besides a new audience) was fixing 8s flaws, like battle mode and character inclusions. But not everything was "fixed", e.g in EVERY OTHER MARIO KART BESIDES SUPER & DOUBLE DASH, holding an item behind your back REMOVED IT from your pocket/item slot. Not in this game, its Wii U counter part or tour. Or even the fact that miis must wear helmets. The characters don't even wear racing suits. And I liked in Wii & 7 when I could see Toad mii's sunglasses as I'm racing. But they shouldn't get rid of the new costumes, just add the Mii racing suit A & B back and/or make the helmet optional. The future will be drastically different, but probably not better than 8 deluxe. Wonder's and Odyssey's influence may show in the next version, and I am all here for that. People like those games' ideas way too much for Nintendo to just ignore them. Finally, R.O.B was R.O.B.B.E.D from the deserving spot in this roster. R.O.B was the start of "non-mario" characters and 8 goes above and beyond by including tracks with that idea too (Excitebike arena, Mute City, Yoshi's Island etc.) so R.O.B's omission here was unfortunate. Yes, how would bikes work? Well Baby Peach (whose legs are too short) and King Boo (who is a ghost) are in 8 deluxe, I'm sure R.O.B would have worked. However, we hope to see for the next game. For now (and many years time) let's enjoy the Mario Kart 8 deluxe that Nintendo poored so much time and energy into. Yeah I had a lot to say 😅.

I will say on the "three Tour fans comment"... The monetization is absolutely indefensible. But the core gameplay is pretty fun. Its a decent little time killer and probably one of my favorite mobile games.

He was cooking with that rant on the MKT course locations. Like, the locations are just objectively too god damn similar to begin with. Sonic Unleashed takes place on a fucking fictional planet and had more varied representation of real-world cities than Mario Kart Tour, as well as just making the locations it did adapt look a lot cooler. I think going the Sonic Unleashed route in general of flanderizing the cities with stylish, impossible architecture would have been a good call in general.

17:26 Ikr! They ported so many of these nitro courses from Tour, and then didn't freaking touch them up at all to fit with base Mario Kart 8's quality. I'm glad they actually touched up some of the later Tour ports like Wii Rainbow Road. But my gosh I wish they'd go back and touch up their earlier ports, Coconut Mall makes me sad everytime I play it cause it's just the length of the Tour version :( I'm glad they did port all this content from Tour though so it doesn't become lost media and I can finally play these courses with a controller, and as you said more Mario Kart is a net positive ^^ I just think they were rushed in the first few waves and don't have any plan to fix to go back and touch it up more :/

I kinda agree with the sentiment of "I preferred DLC to 9". I will admit, I only got 8 Deluxe in mid 2018 so I haven't been stuck with it as long as most people but even if I was, I don't think I would get sick of it. This game is one of the best on the Switch and half of it wasn't made on the Switch. It's flaws were (eventually) ironed out and the already great base 8 foundation was built upon further and could lay the groundwork for ideas in 9 now.

Can you imagine MK9 but it borrows mechanics from Forza Horizons like money-earning to buy upgrades and even new carts and you have to drive to the physical location in order to trigger an event, or maybe they have a world map like that of the Mario Tennis switch game or the Team Sonic Racing game where each of the "levels" is a race or a challenge you have to complete. Idk, I've always imagined this specifically because I don't think just bringing back the same old 32 courses + grand Prix + time trials + battle mode is going to be enough for something that's gonna release on a next-gen golden mushroom (console, although consoles are gonna cost as much as a mushroom made of gold next gen lol). Aside from adding the mechanic of anti-gravity all the way back in MK8, maybe the next "mechanic" is to make it cinematic.

Super Mario Kart was the best Mario Kart game until Mario Kart 8. Back then, we didn't have bullet bills or golden mushrooms or blue shells, we had Stars and we had Lightning and we liked it. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is, thus far, simply the greatest game ever made, and it didn't get that way without paying proper tribute to the OG. You may know that the title screen plays an homage to SMK's title screen after a while. Guess what the Booster Course Pass credits music starts and ends with?

In my opinion, the way Nintendo could move on from/improve Smash Ultimate and MK8DX is to focus on quality over quantity. Both of these games have the most amount of stuff in their respective series for better and worse. While most of that is stuff is good, it does bloat the overall package and makes the idea of making a new game with even more stuff uncomfortable. New entries in these series don’t need more stuff, they need better stuff. A better roster for Smash and a better track selection for MK for example. Bigger does not always mean better.

I think they'll likely make a basic MK thing. 32 courses. Although if they do more, better.

If we do get 9 then I want the one after that to be called Mario Kart X. Because X is the Roman Numeral for 10. X would be pronounced Cross. We could have more crossover stuff but not too much. I still want it to be Mario Kart not Super Kart Bros. or Nintendo Kart. Having the 10th one be X because X is 10 but pronounced Cross because it's a crossover would line up really nicely and be really awesome and neat to see. The we can have X2 and so on from then on, maybe. Also I've heard people not liking 3DS Rosalina's Ice World that much quite a bit now. That bums me out a bit because I quite like it. It's just really nice to me. That means I was one of the few who was happy to see it come back and to be able to enjoy it again with a new coat of paint.

I mean, one of the venues I was considering was my home city of St. Louis, which, while being yet another American city, is also the home of Chuck Berry, and so I was hoping the track would have a swingin' rock & roll BGM.

Sick Video Captain! "Golden Mushroom" I would personally like a Super Nintendo Kart next, but moving away from the Mario Kart branding seems like A no go for Nintendo now after 8DX's success. I've been playing Mario Kart 8 since launch day on the Wii U, and it's been a wild ride since then. I think the only thing they didn't add to DX, besides a few courses I wanted, would be a way to switch items back to the 1 item per Kart set up of OG MK8.

What I want next: #1 - F-Zero with a big budget. #2 - Diddy Kong Racing style Mario Kart with different vehicle types. Wave Race style water sections. Star Fox style flying sections. What I think we'll get: Some sort of Mario Kart + Nintendo All Stars game with way more non-Mario characters. Gameplay will be MK8 but with more franchises. Like there will be a Zelda cup with 4 zelda tracks, Metroid cup, Animal Crossing cup, Splatoon cup, etc. They might even go full Smash Bros style and get 3rd party cups. Mega Man cup. Banjo Kazooie. Final fantasy. etc etc etc. Basically prettier graphics plus way more IP.

I don't want to see all of the 96 courses in 8 deluxe return. Enticing mk8d fans to buy the new game isn't just a simple numbers game where more courses = better game. You can get people excited with the big new gimmick, fancy new graphics (yes even the base game of 8 has some dated elements. Take a moment to look at some of the textures that date back to 2014, and compare them to something like Mario Odyssey. Don't even get me started on the boring ass character animations outside of wave 6 additions), exciting new content with nitros and retros and characters, more crossover stuff, new modes, new items, game rebalancing. Just because something seems perfect doesn't mean the series should just stop growing and changing forever. Should every future game port forward the 96 courses in 8 deluxe + however many they introduce in 9 + any future entries? Just go back to making exciting new games and people will keep buying, you don't have to be the most massive entry to be a hit.
