The Jasmine restaurant in its old brewery tower has been finished, and it's all the tiny paper and card details that really make the difference. This video shows how I added dentils, the roof, and all the other tiny parts that make it look so realistic at the front of my run down model town set in West Yorkshire in 1993. The model is made from paper and card and is an example of model making and model buildings that can be made of card using the most basic of materials.

I love the juxtaposition of having a building so accurate it looks like it stepped in from real life, right next to a building-yet-to-be which is just a white cardboard mock-up! It actually makes your skill so much more impressive.

Beautiful work always impressed with the amount of detail you manage to get in and it's really interesting to see how you represent the details a flat piece of card coloured black at the edges for guttering I would never have considered that it would work but it does.

Yeah it’s ok. It’s not exactly “high fidelity” but it works well enough, I think.

The overall tone is the key - it is judged from a distance - and helped by your lighting it works very well - for N gauge this detail is superb - for me in O gauge, I can't use the easy stuff to replicate the same - it's all scratch , laser and 3d to approximate the same detail you are doing in N .
@Chandwell
@Chandwell 5 ай бұрын
You’ve hit the nail on the head. Sometimes people are impressed by what I do in N but I think I have it easy. I can use blurry cheats without much fidelity. I don’t think I’d do half as well in the bigger scales.

Michael Liking the nearly finished Tower, the Lower Station Rd Row is starting to look nearly complete once you do the final middle building. Then the pavement and what ever you’ve got planned for the rear of the Tower & middle building at the back with other building & possible a cellar. Or even remains of the Old Brewery Chimney with can be seen in the overhead prototype photos. The views across the layout are starting to give an even larger urban landscape. Ian

Great video. I noticed that the lower edges of the tiles were white after being glued to the roof but were then painted at the end. Was the whole roof given a wash ro colour the edges?
@Chandwell

No I don’t do anything with them. I think maybe it was just because we were looking down and therefore can’t see the white edges. Or maybe the varnish makes the colour seep ever so slightly… ?

The attention to detail gets me every time. You've definitely got an artist's eye. Seeing the two empty windows on the "middle" building made reminded me of watching shopfitters installing an aluminium shopfront in the 1980s. Basically the whole front was open like this, the ubiquitous white van was outside, and 3 geezers bringing all the frames and extrusions into place. A bit ambitious, perhaps. But maybe an idea for a vignette somewhere on the model.
