And yet, there are so many hidden details in 12 Angry Men that you probably didn’t notice and that’s what makes it such an entertaining and clever film. Whether you’ve seen the film many times before or have just seen it once or twice, these details will enhance your enjoyment of the film.
For example, did you know that 12 Angry Men was actually inspired by a real-life jury trial? The film’s writer, Reginald Rose, had served on a jury a few years prior to writing the play and the screenplay. He served on the jury for a manslaughter case and this gave him inspiration for the story of 12 Angry Men.
While 12 Angry Men is a very suspenseful film you have to remember that it largely takes place in one small room and is based on a play. In most cases, this is a recipe for a disaster and works on stage but not in the cinema. So how exactly did Sidney Lumet make such a minimalist film into such a suspenseful one?
And while we know that 12 Angry Men is a classic film today that has had many adaptations, how was it received when it was first released? How exactly was the film marketed to audiences who were living in the Golden Age of Hollywood and were used to grander productions rather than one featuring 12 men angrily arguing with each other?
Join FactsVerse to learn about the fascinating details in 12 Angry Men you probably didn’t notice…

Whether the kid killed his father or not is not the point. The point is that there was not enough evidence to convict beyond a reasonable doubt. That is how our legal system is supposed to work.

Agree , however in another analysis of this film I saw on a particular KZfaq channel I can't remember, it has been suggested that there was enough circumstantial evidence that a modern jury would convict. It was also suggested that the poor eyesight of the old lady across the other side of the "L" track would not be admissible in a modern trial, even if the defence lawyer wanted to raise it. Which I personally think is incredulous.

This film is responsible for teaching me more about not being so fast to jump to conclusions, pay more attention to details and take the roll of being a juror with all seriousness. I believe it's helped me to be a better engineering person than many of my friends who didn't see the movie. I totally love this movie and watch it every chance I get. It's THAT good! I do believe it needs to be carried on to younger folks today. Hopefully, some will pay attention and it will be enough.

I've watched this over fifty times. I have many favorite scenes. When #6 says to #3 he ought to have more respect. The knife. #4 tells #10 to "... sit down, and don't open your mouth again. " The marks on the nose. It's all superb writing!

Rose wrote Twelve Angry Men for Studio One in 1954, and the piece was originally broadcast as a television play. When Henry Fonda saw the successful teleplay called 12 Angry Men written for CBS’s Studio One, his complete lack of producing experience didn’t stop him from contacting the teleplay’s author Reginald Rose. Excited by what he perceived as high-quality material for a feature film, Fonda struck a deal with Rose to produce the picture.

I've served on three different juries. On one of them we deliberated for a few hours. The guy finally agreed to a plea bargain. Once it was done, we found out what the guy had really done. All the charges have been whittled down to the ones we were trying. The slew of things that guy was initially charged with were horrifying, including grave robbing. What took so long was this one old lady that stated she thought he was guilty but maybe we should give him another chance. We had just about convinced her that a second chance was up to the judge not us when they came in and let us know that he took a plea deal.

My favorite film of all time. I was first introduced to 12 ANGRY MEN by a civics teacher in Junior High in Los Angeles. If I had to show one film to an audience to explain America, this would be it. The race of the accused didn't play any noticeable role in the decision of Lee J Cobb's character, Juror #3. Juror 3 saw his own son in the accused, and wanted to punish him for breaking his heart. The openly racist character was Juror #10.

So, he took his children to see every "old" movie he could. I am very grateful to him. So now, I am going on, first with my nephews, then with their children... And they love it ! I've watched this movie 4 maybe 5 times and I'll watch it again ! Of course I do have it on VHS and I've been trying to find it on DVD. None the lest I used some of this movie helping my granddaughter studying for a test. Yes she passed it and was asked questions about it she told them that I helped her. I've never studied law but I do pay attention by listening ! I just might see if I can find it on my phone and watch it again. It really was inspiring to me just watching it ! I'd like to say that it's educational but we must be careful with our words sometimes. Twelve angry men a very good classic movie of all times thanks Facts Vers you did it again 👍👍's up

There is also an episode of "Monk" where Adrian Monk ends up on a jury, and while the details of the story are different, and there are outside events taking place that are totally different (such as a dead body in a dumpster), you can tell plainly that they're echoing 12 Angry Men, including a few lines of dialogue right out of the movie. I caught onto what they were doing when the jury took the preliminary vote and everyone voted "guilty" - except for Monk.

12 Angry Men is one movie that I always recommend to my friends as a must see. Lee J Cobb is simply fantastic in his roll. A great actor is one where as a viewer doesn't see the actor but rather sees the character he is playing. .Lee J Cobb was such an actor.. Other actors of this ilk are Daniel Day Lewis and Anthony Hopkins. At any rate if you have not see this movie, you MUST see it.

One detail I liked, and I don't know if this was intentional, but in the beginning, when everyone is ready to say guilty and get the boy sentenced to death, it's hot and muggy creating an upsetting/depressing atmosphere. Then, in the middle, when the vote is split 50/50, it starts to rain. A good rain shower can be one of the most refreshing things on a day like that. Finally, nearing the end with most of the jury saying not guilty, they finally get the fan on for a final sense of relief.

The commentator says the ethnic difference of the accused played into the prejudice of the Lee J Cobb character. This is incorrect. The character who portrayed the most ethnic prejudice was the one played by Ed Begley. The Lee J Cobb character was prejudiced against all young men in general, because he was bitter about the fractured relationship with his son.

First of all I doubt that India has the same jurisprudence we do especially about 12 jurors and certainly the concept of innocent until proven guilty Beyond A Reasonable Doubt. Secondly my God I can't imagine that here in the United states. I'm sorry but this is a western society and we are basically all Anglo here in the majority at least for a little while longer. It's never going to have the impact ever ever than the Original Classic know what I imagine even the German one or any of the other adaptations.
