Maybe a bus ticket of sorts, so she'd likely need it, so he told the girl in boots to check her valuables, just in case, but instead the dude behind quickly rocks up, and takes whatever good samaritan's got in his back pocket. The fact that the girl checked her boot after she was made aware of something happening behind her, shows that they're not in the nicest of neighborhoods, so maybe a place with many tourists, or with many pickpockets, to warrant that level of paranoia. I'm starting to feel paranoid myself now, but I'm almost 100% sure that old lady and old man are in on it. Other than that, the old man in the back was just quick about it. If you're on the bus, and you see 2 people talking since they got on, then you don't have to be that cautious about the guy doing something nasty to the girl, so old man in the back's movement is strange, because it's not like the bus stopped, or seats opened up anywhere, so he has no hurry to be anywhere else, and he's strangely observant and restless for someone not committing a crime.
