Didcot Railway Centre - King Edward II's days are numbered 29 Aug 20

I filmed this on the Saturday of the August Bank holiday weekend, 2020.
6023 King Edward II was close to the end of her boiler certificate, so this was a final chance for me to see her in action. 2999 Lady of Legend was out in steam as well.
On this, my fourth visit to the Didcot Railway Centre, I at last got to see a turntable demonstration and the coal stage in use.
Pease don't expect lots of action and speedy performance from the video. It's all rather slow and just as it was on the day, with locos moving around and trips up and down the almost half mile long demonstration line.

Another great video Hils, the kings are very impressive beasts I remember this particular one being in the scrapyard at Barry looking extremely forlorn compared to the lovely condition of now 🙂

Surely they won't let a beautiful Steam engine of days gone by end up in the scrap yard ? Great work Hilary , let's hope good and dedicated Tradesmen can be found capable of rebuilding K Es' Boiler and firebox ! Got to love the Tank engine being shunted , ( I'm a great fan of all steam engines especially tank engines ) !

Thanks Danny. No, she won't be going to the scrap yard. I guess she';ll be on static display until there's an opportunity to overhaul. I' glad you enjoyed the little shunting clips. :-) Hilary

I didn't think it was over this early. Did it ever make it out onto the mainline?

No, she didn't. I believe they might work towards a mainline certificate when she's next overhauled. I'm not up with all the latest on things like that I'm afraid! Thanks for watching. :-) Hilary

6023 is a favourite of mine and I have fond memories of seeing her at the Mid Norfolk Railway some years back . I really should go to Didcot and see 2999 in the flesh one day . Lovely photographic work as usual Hils , excellent video .

Thank you Kenneth. Didcot is a great place. There's always lots of activity, and there is also a second little line, which I didn't film this time as that was just a diesel!
