I mean you could hit someone with a hammer just as easily. Heavy industrial scale construction equipment in general tends to be heavy, dangerous and easily misused. Google the "Killdozer" for just one example. The Gauntlets could be weapons, sure, but almost anything could be. Jayce's issue isn't that he didn't consider they'd be used as weapons, thats the wrong part of the scene to focus on. Jayce's flaw lies in the line "mining colonies in the fissures can work faster and without fatigue". That's not what would happen, what would happen is quotas would just double or tripple and/or the employed workforce would be downsized to cut cost. Jayce is operating on the assumption that his devices would be used to benefit the people in need in UC, when the entire system their city is built on ensures the only people these things will help are those who already have power.

It’s computer generated 3D graphic. But then they painted the texture on the 3D models, including shadows and highlights (instead of letting the computer generate the lighting)! That’s why everything feels like an oil painting. And the amount of detail in the facial expressions is breathtaking.

Personaly I despise Heimerdinger. He founded this city and has been on the ruling counsel for 200 years. Yet he let the situation deteriorate to the point were half the population lived underground in miserable condition, breathing toxic air. At any point in history he could have acted but he never did, he does't even seem to consider there might something wrong with the situation. Even the "words of wisdom" he give to other are just common platitude and as a leader he is an utter faillure.

@@28starwarsfan People use deadly tools in their trade all the time. It doesn't take 10 years of research to figure out a protocol to safeguard those tools. Of course no protocol is perfect but even without protocol the stones will eventually find their way out of the lab. I mean the gemstone was stolen the same day they showed it to Heimerdinger for the first time xD So what good were the ten years of research then? Heimerdinger has some valid concerns but he never actually take the right steps to address them, instead waiting for a "perfect" solution when there will never be one. And in the meantime he allows things to degenerate just like he did with his own city.

Studio Fortiche is so good. They made me give a shit about LoL just with the strength of their art direction on this show. In the previous episode you find out that Marcus sold out his own people to SIlco because he hated that she was working with the "Trenchers" and that resulted in Grayson's death. So basically he probably did care that his own people got killed but he linked himself to t he bad guys. I would describe the art style as "stylized", it's quite popular these days in games. It's kind of a blend of realistic lighting, & physics but with "soft" hand-painted textures. It's definitely the current trend in video games and my own favorite too, it works extremely well in an animated show, that's for sure. I think going for this look is much easier on the eyes too and it won't give any weird uncanny valley effects you get from going for too much realism. It kind of gives you the vibe of 2D cartoons while actually being 3d models. It's harder than you'd think though, it's much easier making a realistic metal texture than it is to make a stylized one. Because it has to look like it has the properties of metal (shiny, uneven etc) but still look painted. I'm slowly adapting to that type of art, but it can be really tricky to know how to balance it. The artists behind Arcane are the best of the best! Everyone in the game industry were talking about how impressive the art is for a long time, even to this day people reference it and use it as inspiration for their own work. Sorry for the nerd essay but it's not often I get to discuss textures lol
@MartinWasTaken

> It's harder than you'd think though, it's much easier making a realistic metal texture than it is to make a stylized one. Ain't nobody doing original realistic metal textures in 2024, time is money and often people making games/animations don't have any time. You are also overhyping Arcane's animation, it's amazing for sure but it's nothing groundbreaking. Just look at any Studio Ghibli movie or Spiderverse movies. You are practically insulting amazing stuff other animators are creating right now or have created prior. You can't possibly think Arcane holds a candle to any Studio Ghibli movie. I guess you could say Arcane is groundbreaking being made by fully Western team.
@Quzga
@Quzga 7 ай бұрын
@@MartinWasTaken No offense but you have absolutely no idea what you're talking about... Every studio has plenty of texture artists, I am one myself. I'm just saying that making realistic materials is much easier than doing stylized but you wouldn't think so considering one seems simpler. Also majority of game studios goes for realistic materials, stylized is still the minority but it is becoming more popular recently especially among FPS games. No clue where you got the "no one has time" from. Any proper studio does everything by hand, all textures, models etc. I think you completely misunderstood my comment.... Also Into the spiderverse does not have better textures than Arcane, not even close. It has impressive animation and editing though. Comparing it to anime is also nonsense considering Arcane is 3D models painted to give a 2d feeling. Anime isn't textured, it's drawn.. Not sure where you think your expertise comes from but you don't understand the difference between animation and textures so seems pointless even discussing this with you.

@@MartinWasTaken Fortische artists were doing this style (2d hand painted SFX, hand painting/stylizing on top of 3d and a non-standard way of lighting) quite some time before the Spiderverse movies were even a thing and like @Quzga pointed out in regards of you mentioning Studio Ghibli, comparing fully hand drawn Anime to Arcane just doesn't make sense. It's totally OK if you're personally not that impressed, but Fortische got a lot of praise from other studios for Arcane and the show probably didn't win 9 Annie awards just for doing what has been done for years...

Just to be clear, it was Cait’s parents who got her removed from her detail on the Enforcers, not Jace. Jace was telling her that after they did that, the best position he could get her was as a part of his personal security detail, which given that he’s a counselor is likely an important position, even if it’s mostly behind a desk. Jace is genuinely just trying to be helpful to her. She is his oldest friend after all, and the only person who truly sympathized with him when he was expelled from the Academy, while he was shunned by most others.

It's interesting how despite all Heimerdinger's hand-wringing about magic, it still fell into the wrong hands without it ever going public or even being announced. So ultimately his stonewalling Jayce and Viktor didn't help at all, all it did was sandbag their research. Heimer's species is nearly immortal, he won't die of old age, and ontop of that he is both wealthy and one of the most politically influential people in the city, in short the status quo of the city works perfectly fine for him and he loses nothing if Hextech stays in development hell for the next fifty years. All the while people like Viktor, Vi or Powder are living and dying in the polluted slums of the city he founded. It just shows how even someone so seemingly kind and benevolent as him can be so completely, almost willfully blinded by his own privileged to the absolute horrors mere mortal human-beings are suffering right next door. It's an incredible subversion of the common Wise Old Mentor trope as usually the kindly grandfather figure like Heimer in a fantasy story would warn against magic and the story would just say they are 100% right and shouldn't be questioned, but Arcane shows that his wisdom isn't flawless and his actions are as motivated from a flawed perspective as anyone elses.

@@itsgonnabeokay9341 His course of action is only bringing about exactly what he feared would happen. Had he worked with Jayce from the start, he would have been in a position to directly guide and shepherd this burgeoning technology. Instead all he did was stand by and passively try to block its development, which he failed to do at every stage. He failed to prevent their original experiment, he failed to prevent the Hexgates from being built (which themselves are actually only ever shown to be a netpositive for the city, its only Topsides monopoly on their use that is bad for UC), and he failed to prevent them falling into the wrong hands. Once a technology is invented, it cannot be uninvented. You cannot put the genie back in the bottle. If it wasn't Jayce and Viktor that created the tech, it would just have been someone else that Heimer would have had absolutely no involvement with. His own prejudices against magic blinded him to the fact he had practically the best case scenario possible fall right into his lap as his own proteges were the ones to bring this tech to light.. and he squandered it because he is so disconnected from the problems of the people around him that he can't see why solutions are even needed. It's also worth noting that while Hextech is Jayce and Viktor's baby.. it's not actually their goal itself. Jayce and Viktor only care about harnessing magic to begin with because they believe it is the best way to improve the lives of those in need. Had Heimer actually offered a meaningful alternative to help salve the suffering in his city, any meaningful alternative whatsoever, they likely would have pursued that instead. But Heimer doesn't have anything to offer but vague warnings and roadblocks, because his nigh immortality lets him just coast through life with the belief things will just kind of solve themselves even if it takes 100 years all the while being blissfully unaware of the suffering around him.

@@troikas3353 Wait, you cannot be serious. Wdym HE failed? Do you think he has like 10 clones and he can do everything at once? Like, is he the only one there who is supposed to take care of everything? What a load of nonsense. He wanted to destroy the hexcore, but was stopped, which led to Skye dying. It also led to Jayce creating the hextech hammer which also led to death. And finally, it led to Jinx creating a fking hextech rocket launcher and firing it at the council. Yeah, for sure it was his fault. You act like he is omniscient or something.

Jayce got the original idea, the crystal and remembered both the runes and the spell which is insane considering how young he was at the time. Viktor however solved a mathematical issue about wave functions that had Jayce stuck for a while in literally one evening. So Viktor's contribution is hardly negligible, he's likely the most mathematically inclined of the two. It's always hard to judge when we don't have all the story but Viktor seems in every way Jayce's equal in this endeavour.

Done with an eye for perspective so everything would appear 3D, but done in a style that resembles the richness and texture of oil paintings. Personally, I think while certain "old masters" of art from the past might be fascinated by how we make movies...most of them would be far more interested in animation. Powder has extreme PTSD, split personality, depression and a lot of other things. Part of her brain is still trapped when her greatest trauma occurred, when she was like what, 9 or 10? Part of her is still that little girl even though she aged quite a few years. So while it's weird to see a girl her age sitting on Silco's lap, it wouldn't be as weird to see a younger her doing so.. which is partially where she is at mentally.

The minute she was revealed in this episode I was like "OH so she's Harley Quinn." Looked it up and the inspiration for the Jinx character apparently was Joker (explains the Harley stuff), Gollum (explains the shifting personalities) and Helena Bonham Carter (no fuckin idea what that explains).

I highly recommend that before watching episode 7, that you watch the Imagine Dragons "Enemy" video. It will make the episode hit that much harder as it gives some background. Also, once you finish the series, I suggest you watch the "Worlds 2021 Show Open". Consider it a live action version of Arcane.

There isn't an exact term for the art style used by _Arcane,_ but it's what's generally referred to as "painterly," as they were attempting to capture the look and feel of 2D digital concept art for video games, with a sketchy, rough vibe where you can still clearly see brush strokes and other such "imperfections." Riot Games in particular drew a lot of inspiration from early 2000s Blizzard Entertainment game art, as _League of Legends_ grew out of the _Warcraft III_ modding scene. The show itself uses a branch of 3D animation techniques called NPR (non-photorealistic) rendering, which attempts to use CGI to create visuals that look like 2D art, such as paintings, comic books, or anime, rather than trying to achieve photorealism. For most of the last 25 years "cel shading" was the major accomplishment, but over the last several years, really starting with _Into the Spider-verse,_ there has been a lot of effort to advance the medium. _Arcane_ achieves this particular look by using a mixture of traditional 3D animation with lots of painted textures and shading rather than relying on light sources within the scenes, and 2D scene elements and sfx. For example, most if not all of the special effects like flames, dust, and explosions are drawn and animated in 2D.

Jayce gets a bad rap... He's a brilliant scientist, and while Viktor did have to turn his thinking around on how to stabilize the crystals, and is in some ways a better technician, Jayce is exceptionally good at what he does. And, in a lot of ways, he's quite good at a much wider range of things than a lot of others in the show. He's not "better" at anything than some. But he's plenty good enough at a lot. But he's not perfect, and he makes mistakes. And some people kinda shit on him unnecessarily for it.

The animation outside s a combination of 3D computer modeling (like your DreamWorks and Pixar animated films) with digitally painted 2D backgrounds (like the older animated films) and light/texture is painted on the models instead of a program rendered like most 3D animations.

Marcus saved her in that moment predominantly to assuage his own guilt, but then chucked her in there just to wash his hands of her. It's unlikely he ever even gave her much thought after that, let alone would have likely cared much if she died there. In short he did it for himself, not because of what might happen to her.

@@zethwhippy3929 The show tells us in dialogue that Vi was put in prison with no record of her name and no description of her crimes, no hint at all as to who she is or why shes there. He tossed her in there completely anonymously just to get rid of her in a manner that would hide what he did from both Silco and his superiors. He did not actually turn her in for the explosion, he just washed his hands of her entirely.

I may have missed it, but they know that this show and some/most of these characters are from the video game League of Legends right? This show is RIOT Games way of building out the lore of the world their characters come from. And i believe the reason they are doing that is so they can make a MMORPG game in the future and have the backstory/world/and lore to build on.

Why would Marcus not arrest Vi? My main problem with watching reactions to this series is that people pick favorite characters and then stop thinking logically about the actions taken. Then entire point of the enforcers being in the undercity in those firstn3 episodes is because they had to make an arrest for the person that broke into Jayce's place, that order came from the council. At the end of the day someone has to go to jail for it. It is literally the only good decision that Vi makes all season. It is something Vander understood. Even Powder got it because she had no plans to see Vi come back in episode 3. Just because Silco threw a bag of gold coins at Marcus does not mean that an arrest doesn't need to happen. I don't get how so many people can figure out that Vi has s turning herself in at the end of the second episode only to completely forget all about that plot point an episode later.

Powder's gone. There's only Jinx. And Jinx has a severe case of schizophrenia. The end of episode 3 completely wrecked her brain. Powder already had a pile of neuroses relating to abandonment and codependency. They were all pushed to the breaking point with Vander's capture and Vi leaving her behind to go save him. Then "that" event happened, and it sent her absolutely sailing past the edge of sanity. She's only able to function at all because her delusions and hallucinations aren't directly contradictory with reality. But they're pretty extreme nonetheless. Jinx fundamentally has no capacity to differentiate fantasy from reality. And she still has all the neuroses from before...but more severe (and probably some extras, now). And to top it off...nobody in that world has any knowledge or understanding at all of what neurology or psychology are, and there's no such thing as therapists or counselors. That world has no way at all to treat or even diagnose mental illness or its causes.

You guys definitely weren't alone getting... weird vibes from Silco and Jinx's relationship. It was intentionally made to be uncomfortable, some have gone as far as to say 'emotional incest'. But at the very least, a very toxic co-dependent relationship that Silco has fostered with her because of his own issues.

I've seriously never understood why people take Heimendinger's side when it comes to Hextech. In the real world once you turn 16 you have the ability to operate a multi-ton box of metal that is literally powered by explosions and kills tens of thousands every year in the US alone. Like who gives a shit if it is dangerous if the utility of it is great enough. They already have guns, are you really worried someone is going to go on a mass punching spree? If that's the case shimmer already exists, so why halt progress when the means to accomplish evil already exist.

@fredrice8650 true. It also taps into our own perception of how people behave, ie, if someone seems to be doing things for personal gain, they aren't the greatest of people.
