Kendall’s Nirvana needle drop/troll was especially savage since this was Shiv’s coronation into the company. Her escalation was off the charts but started from that wound.

Kendall doesn't have morals, he has ideas about having the morals. Because his motivation is ultimately selfish - he wants to be seen as a hero. And sometimes he convinces himself that he's that hero, other times he just pretends to believe it.

One episode ago, Kendall was saying to Shiv that her only value is her "teats". Her older brother. And in this episode while his sister is speaking in front of the company for the first time (because historically she's never been valued) she gets taunted and humiliated with a song about rape. In the same episode he co-opts language like f*** the patriarchy and refuses to listen to anything his female lawyer or female PR person says. Please, please remember that Kendall is not a victim or a baby boy.

I agree. It feels like sometimes people don't hold the men in the show accountable the way they do with Shiv. They're all terrible people in this show and everyone knows that but Shiv gets a different treatment. It's like they never forget what she did wrong but they do forget what the men have done/said.

I've never viewed Kendall as a victim, but he's an easy character, relatively speaking for this show, to sympathize with and even root for while also being totally cognizant of his deep personal failings (particularly later in the series). I often root for Shiv more than any of the siblings because i share her general politics and being a woman in this industry she's an underdog, which makes her sympathetic. And I also understand that she's not above compromising her political beliefs and indeed the future of the nation if it means she gets a bigger share of the pie. And arguably none of that compares to Ken literally taking a life. It's good to have complex feelings about multilayered characters.

In terms of the political atmosphere, Shiv is the "nice one" she's the liberal in the group lmao. Kendall shot first, it's not her fault that her shots hit harder than his. Kendall has been kind of manic lately and he forgot who he is and what he's done. His family has always pulled his card. Logan did it in seasons 1 and 2. Shiv did it here.

Yup. People always talk about how Shiv reacts to things as if she doesn’t have reasons to react the way she does. Kendall came for her first. Kendall was so wronged in his childhood. Now he does everything to get ahead and be "the man", but when he is ahead, when he is in a good position, he just CAN´T trust in himself, he can´t trust that he can do it or that he is fit for it, again, because of his raising. He is condemned to do everything he can to "win" in life, while dealing with a parallel impulse to destroy any good position he can get in life. Just like Don Draper was for most of "Mad men". Sadly, Kendall doesn´t get to know his real self and accept it

"It's like he listens to rap that he thinks he should listen to, not because he actually likes it" this is literally 80% of the youth in the last 18 years. Everyone hides their music taste to fit in with the only socially accepted party music.
@Diegesis
@Diegesis 10 ай бұрын
Kinda true but Ken even does it when he's alone. Like in episode 1. I don't think he has any real taste to hide. He just wants to like what he thinks he's supposed to like. Much like Patrick bateman. Also I wouldn't say it's the last 18 years. Older men who wanted to seem distinguished have pretended to like classical music for a century
@ethidian3444
@ethidian3444 10 ай бұрын
@@Diegesis 18 years ago this phenomenon was definitely prevalent with rap music, I remember all of my preteen friends and older sister's friends I knew would all pretend to like rap music way more than they actually do. And now with my little sister and all of her friends, embarrassed to be caught listening to the music they like and instead blasting rap from their headphones. It just blows my mind people don't talk about this more. It's just everywhere. Kendall's issue is way different, yeah, I just thought it was worth noting. I'm sure classical music elitism is a thing. Most of it sucks ass, but some of it is gold. You should check out La Follia from Vivaldi, or Max Richter's revamp on Vivaldi's Four Seasons. Now that is some good shit Kendall might pretend to like.
