I moved to Germany from Egypt recently mainly for economic reasons but I also wanted my kids to be raised in a more free political atmosphere. I really wanted to be a proud German someday and really help this beautiful country grow even better and bigger as much as I can and I always dreamt of Germany as a leading world power for peace but the German political leaders (left and right) situation on the Gaza matter is making me question if I'm really living in a truly politically free country. Knowing Yanis and knowing that there are more people like him, good human beings, true to their values, open and honest brings me some hope that someday Europe will be a beacon for freedom and peace for everyone..

Here in Luxembourg's déi Lénk (the Left) we are working on breaking our internal dead lock on Palestine. As activists, I'd say the left wing of the party and particularly the young, we have been joining local protests and solidarity events from the start. Unfortunately the party apparatus is slow and we had to force their arm to even minimally mobilise. But I have great hope for our next congress. Out international commission has a strong resolution prepared and confident for it to pass. In this among other things we will be fully endorsing the BDS movement, calling on our government and the EU to recognise Palestine as a sovereign state, call for international prosecution of all involved in the crimes comitted in Gaza right now etc. I hope to likewise get the party back to extra parliamentary action as well, that is for all and any topics concerning left wing politics. We have become far too slow in reacting to current events, at least as an official body, and don't mobilise our membership as we used to. And this struggle will not just be in solidarity with Palestine but we will rebuild our solidarity with other people, other nations and organisations across the world. We have been quiet too long.
